Long tail keywords / Close variations of keywords / Duplicate Content
-
In a classified site, people usually search for the same item with different keywords which are often very close to each other and point to same set of results: e.g.
honda civic for sale
used honda civic for sale
civic for sale
used civic for sale
used civicAll the above keywords should actually lead to same results i.e honda civic for sale. Our competitor is creating a page for each one of these
www.sitename.com/q/honda-civic-for-sale/
www.sitename.com/q/used-honda-civic-for-sale/
... and so onBasically they create a page for each high traffic keyword they encounter where as we have very structure search.
How to compete with that ? They are ranking on all these long tail keywords because of separate landing pages though most of the pages are duplicate of each other. 98% same content (all are showing honda civics)
Should we go that route OR optimize our single page focusing on keyword with highest traffic and hope google will rank us for the related keywords as well ?

Muhammad,
If a page targeting multiple keywords has enough authority it may certainly rank for them--especially if they are as closely related as the ones on your list. In the example you give, I would optimize a single page focused on "used honda civic for sale" (and maybe include your city name) and work on building its authority. With a little time and effort, that page should be able to rank for all of those variations.

Its quite hard to answer the question until you provide us both URL.Domain authority,Current internal links structure of both site and many other factors are necessary to answer this question why they are ranking well and how you guys reach there.
If they are creating doorway pages just to manipulate rank.Go ahead report it to Google. If you are going to report make sure you do not show up who you are.
If you legally want to beat him.Check out his link profile and his tactics carefully. Analyze and prepare action plans accordingly.

Keyword Research - tools
Hello all, I would like to find better synonyms for my keywords, and dig deeper to bid / place strategy into place for them. I am currently using the adwords too but it only gives me closely related keyword ideas. Is there something "free" which can give me a better co-relation data to work with? Thanks Aditya

Static Html Pages V/s Wordpress - For open content pages?
Hi there. I am worried a bit about static html pages or wordpress as an instance to write down open page content for our website. We are a product based website - primarily Saas based product. But with time we have seen that if we write more content people will be able to find us better,. Earlier our blog resided on blog.example.com now we are moving it to example.com/blog/ Issues - I really want to know that I need to generate lots of fresh content so I am using wordpress as the blog medium and content generation medium too. Basically the wordpress instance will be a content generated pages. I can also have static html page based content but then our content writers will always have to take the help of develoeprs to publish it to our sites. Whats the best way to go about this keeping SEO really crucial in mind? Thanks for your time and help!

My site is ranked in the top 5 for my keywords, but howcome I'm low in an organic search results for my key words?
Are the other factors such as page rank, Alexa rating and mozRank used to determine where I will show up in search results, over Goggle's key word rank for my key words?

What % is a GO when using the Keyword difficulty tool?
Hi, A lot of keywords I have looked into say 'moderately competitive' at around 35% - 45%. But what else would you look at in the table to decide whether or not the keyword term is achievable and how do you decide this maybe its the root domain backlinks and maybe you would only touch it if it had less then 30. Basically what other elements do you look at when deciding whether to pursue? This might also include some research in Google itself (although most the data you would want is in the tool, well I think anyway! Cheers

Keyword Ranks reported by SEOMOZ don't match actual searches
SEO Moz reported that various keywords I was tracking were not in the top 50 results on Yahoo or Bing, yet when I did a Yahoo or Bing search for those keywords (from multiple computers and not logged into any Yahoo or MSN/Bing account) I found the keywords easily. What's the scoop?
