    Hi,

    I don't get it...
I've encountered the following infographic that seemed to do well: http://www.brilliance.com/4cs-of-diamonds-infograph

As you can see, the page has thousands of social shares from Tweets to Facebook and obviously Pinterest. However, when I placed this page on Open Site Explorer (click to view) I see only 9 external links and page authority of 28/100. And this seems to me like a successful infographic.

    Any explanations?

    Thanks

Seems like a nice enough graphic to me. Perhaps the target audience is inclined to share socially and not necessary link. That's very normal.

9 linking root domains is decent and there are probably lower quality ones not being displayed by Open Site Explorer.

Pinterest would generate links but you usually won't see this flooding the results in Open Site Explorer, probably due to crawl depth of OSE and similar factors - most of the shares just aren't important enough to index.

What do you mean by "In terms of links, alot get linked to the home page as the source and some to the image url."

Do you mean that due to an infographic on an internal page other sites often link to the homepage of the infographic owner?

Also, as I mentioned I was surprised, as you can see from the amount of the social shares this infographic did had ncie buzz (maybe still does). However the amount of links I could locate is ok nothing more and also the PA by MOZ OSE is only 28... Looks weird to me. Makes me wonder...

Not all infographics that are made are for links, that one in particular was a sales tool but it still drives nice links , shares , and traffic.

In terms of links, alot get linked to the home page as the source and some to the image url.

Why not check for yourself?  Same logic.  Put image URL in to image search, but this time add site:pinterest.com to the end.

            http://goo.gl/OGgeb8

Not thousands, but there are some.  You can now check the source of those page to see whether there are followed links or not.

What about Pinterest? Does it generate links? I would have expected to see 1000 links from Pinterest alone...

If you put the URL of that image in to Google's search by image you get this list of results of where else that has been us3ed http://goo.gl/mkAdJW

If you go down that list you will find that the majority of those sites then link back to the originating site by way of a credit.  Voila - links!

So the process there was most likely to produce a list of sites that might use the infographic and contact them all to offer it (requesting a link by way of credit).  It's an effective method in terms of the number of links that can be generated from it, but it doesn't create the best overall link profile.  A lot of the links can be from pages that drop off quickly or from sites that link out to almost anything.  It also creates a very definite pattern.  Not to be overdone, but it does still seem to work.

How Long Do The Link Tracking Lists Take To Update?

Hi, How long do the link tracking lists take to update? It's been over a week and each is still showing a red cross. The reason I created it was because I migrated to a new domain name and Moz is still showing the backlinks on the old property and not the new (the domain swap happened in December 2020). I can see that Ahrefs has picked up all of the links - Both new and redirected - but Moz has not. When will this be reflected in Moz as it has already been over three months? Is there a reason for the above questions? I appreciate any response here. 🙂

Competitor getting External Links from search.aol.com

Recently, I noticed that one of the competitors I track within my Moz campaign received about 12 new inbound  links. As a result, there DA jumped about 10 points. I reviewed these new external links and was surprised to see that they are all "search.aol.com/aol/search?query= ..." with Link Anchor Text that is good for the industry we compete in. Can anyone tell me why these are being counted as "Inbound Links". It just doesn't seem right. Is this some sort of black hat seo tactic?

                  Tumblr and Link Equity

Hi Moz Community, I've recently decided to start a project where I gather 1,000 great examples of something that's searched for often, and am thinking that posting it to a Tumblr site like the following website did could be a great way to pass link equity back to my main site (with a little "site by [my site]" somewhere in the header or footer). While I was super pumped about this idea today, and have now gathered almost 500 of my examples (mentioned above), I am not seeing link equity passed from this site, even on the non-redirected links here: http://gothamlogos.tumblr.com/ Anyone have any experience with projects like this? I've checked read the Moz Tumblr and SEO article from a few years ago, which makes it seem like this should be an SEO "win"... But using the Moz Pro account tools, I'm not seeing any of these non-redirect links (ordinary links) giving any value to anyone on this example site. Thanks so much in advance, Zack

Potential spam websites with high DA linking back to us

Hey everybody, I'm going through all my sites and disavowing crap links. However, I'm having trouble distinguishing which high DA sites to disavow. What would you do? For example:
https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/spam-analysis?site=busca.starmedia.com&target=domain&source=subdomain&page=1&sort=spam_score and https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/spam-analysis?site=cc879fe.activerain.com&target=domain&source=subdomain&page=1&sort=spam_score They both have tons of backlinks - both good and crap. The first has a DA of 72 and a Moz spam score of 4/17 and the second has a DA of 86 and a Moz spam score of 9/17

What analysis exists for Out Bound Links (OBL) from your site

Hi Maybe I am missing this but I can''t seem to see it. I am doing some analysis on a client's site and want to get a csv list of links from the client's site to external sites. So what I am looking for is a list of Out Bound Links (OBL) from the client's site. I want to run these past a black list / bad link neighborhood checking script I have. This would actually be a nice feature in SEO Moz Pro, unless it actually already does and I am just missing it or not setting filters correctly. Thanks Trevor

How can I reduce the number of links on a page and keep the site easy to navigate?

The SEOmoz Site Crawl indicates that we have too many on page links on over 9,970 pages. This is an ecommerce site with a large number of categories. I have a couple of questions regarding this issue: How important is the "too many on page links" factor to SEO? What are some methods of reducing the number of links when there are a large number of categories? We have main categories with dropdown menus currently and have found that they are used to browse and shop the store.
