Unlinked mentions that seem to be FROM by site
-
Hi Everyone
I'm new to SEO so apologies if this is a silly question.
I'm using the unlinked mentions tool and as far as I can see the mentions are from my own site!
I've attached a screen grab.
Am I being a muppet? I thought that it would show mentions on OTHER sites that I don't have a link back to my site! The screen grab appears to show links on my site, as in posts on my own forum?
Thanks for your help!

Hey There, thanks for writing in and sorry that you are running into this issue.
The Unlinked Mentions query should automatically be including the search operator -rd:yourdomain.com when you go to that tab. For example, when I go to that tab while researching moz.com, the system autofills the mentions field with the search query: moz OR moz.com -rd:moz.com. The -rd: operator means "exclude this rootdomain."
Can you tell me if that operator is not being included automatically when you go to that tab or if you are removing it from the query? I tested this feature for a number of sites and the operator was correctly included automatically on all of the tests I've run, so I'm not certain why you may be running into issues with the operator. Any further details you can provide will help me dig into this further.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
That does make sense, I'll manually weed them out but it stops it being a useful "quick check".
Thanks again

Hello NappyValleyNet
I took a look and recreated the issue myself. I tried it with and without the OR operator, etc. We need a Moz staffer to explain it but my guess is that the urls being dynamically generated is tied to the issue. To know it is dynamically generated as opposed to a static page, when you look at the URL you see question marks, equal signs, ampersands, etc.

Could someone be sabataging my site by bad backlinks?
Hello, As I have said before I am new to SEO and especially new to this type of software. I am trialing MOZ, ahrefs and MajesticSEO. I just used the Site Explorer on ahrefs and it showed me that a bunch of backlinks was created today but I haven't engaged anyone in "SEO" for many months. Why would this be? See the image for a screenshot. yhpUxFv.png

Links between own sites cause bad pagerank?
Many people say PR does not matter, but for me its an indicator that links from a domain with higher PR may rank better. My client has a about 4 different travel-sites of very different kinds of travelling. His sites are not ranking bad but all sites have just a PR 0-2 although the content is unique. I made the experience that even sites with few content will have at least a PR of 3 after some years with no SEO effort. One reason is may some part of duplicate content (4 Tours begin in Manaus, so the description for Manaus is on all the 4 Tour pages the same) but another is that the pages have few external links but many of other sites he is owning... like: also check out this -> link to another own site. Question: If I take all these links away (they even don't cause many referrals at all) Â - will this have a positive effect on rankings? Means trying to have always more external links from not self owned sites is a good start? Thanks for sharing your experiences Holger

Mentions without links
Just curious, is there any SEO value if another site/blog mentions my site but doesn't create a hyperlink.  My site happens to have a lot of amateur bloggers who write "we used TVFoodMaps for our trip" but don't actually link to my site.  I'm wondering if that does anything for my SEO value and should I contact them and ask for the reference to be turned into a link? Thoughts?

Can copyright links to your site have a negative impact on your SEO?
many of the websites we designed have a copyright link in the footer. Like: webdesign by company name then this is made a hyperlink to our company website. Some of these websites have a high PR and other metrics but rarely are about webdesign. What is a clever thing to do? Tom

Do Follow- Social Media sites
Does anyone have a list of do follow social media network sites. I am looking to list some of my customers on social media network sites, but having the bonus of do follow to pass link Juice is an extra bonus. Most of my customers have Twitter and Facebook profiles- but these happen to be no follows. I am looking for more social media sites that are do follow. I did see an article on this- on SEM MOz I believe but I cant find it. Any suggestions?

Run of Site Links
I recently got a link from a relevant site but it ended up being a run of site link. The site has over 3,000 pages that now link to my site. Will my site get penalized for this?
