Ecommerce: How to do best product content piece - include competitors?
-
Hello,
A client runs an Ecommerce store.
Doing a "best running shoes" type piece of content in our industry.
I (the SEO) want to be 10X better than the first listing and be honest and fit intent by including all "running shoes" from all internet suppliers (including nofollow links). It's about 8-10 names. We could list us first when we carry a product. like 6 other site's products 4 of ours, listing who carries the product with our site listed first if we do. We have some of the best. The meta description and top of the article would be like. We analyzed 23+ sites and made some hard conclusions.... But wait, one of the owners doesn't want to list competitor site names even if they are nofollow or even just text. She only wants to include items from our store. I would have to rename the content "Our Top 5 products" and it would be a mismatch in intent and keywords for "best running shoes" and just be for our customers.
What is the most proper SEO thing to do to attack "best running shoes" (if appropriate)keeping in mind long terms sales? The owner wants to hear your suggestions as well. And is a "best" keyword sometimes competition?
Thanks.

We focus on data driven content with an info graphic as we have had amazing successes. Have you considered same? The topic you are discussing is topical... something I might type in. We find consumers are chasing hard data. For free data sources jump onto google trends and google correlate and see if you create a newsworthy story backed by some stats.
You will need some way of amplifying your content. Have you got a strategy for same? I try and start with the amplification question first as that may dictate the content strategy.
Hope that assists.

Hi Bob,
I think your client brings up some valid points. As I am sure you are aware, from an SEO perspective, any links to competitors products ads the risk of losing the visitor to your site.
When structuring a piece of content like you are at he moment, have you though about something like "Our Top 10 Running shoes for this summer" but only include your current products. Otherwise I would look at informative content that supports the products USP. For example if the shoe in question is designed to support the runners ankle then I would do an article on "Attention all Runner! 10 ways to protect your ankles this summer". Obviously reward to get the keyword at the beginning and all of the other technical content marketing standard practices.
I hope that helps out a little bit.
Stefan

Which is more important - exact match on two pages with slightly similar content or completely unique content but no exact match?
I want to rank for two terms - one is the abbreviation and one is the actual phrase (think UX and user experience). Is it better to create two separate pages to benefit from the exact match keyword (given that the content is 51% unique) or should I work both the acronym and the phrase into one page? If I made the two pages, I could get in a lot more longtail keywords, however it's my belief that I should make one really robust page to ensure all possible link equity and user signals aren't split. Is this a valid argument or does the power of exact match keywords override the need for user signals?

How should I rename my product titles
On my furniture e-commerce website, most of my product pages have a name of a colour that no user would naturally search for, such as: Duck Egg Chesterfield Sofa Kingfisher Velvet Queen Anne Armchair If I switched all the product names to simplified names such as Blue Linen Chesterfield Sofa there would be a lot of duplicate page titles, as there are many different shades of Blue linen chesterfield sofa's on my website. I am therefore thinking that I should change the name of each of my products to something like: Duck Egg Blue Linen Chesterfield Sofa Kingfisher Blue Velvet Queen Anne Armchair I would then be able to rank for terms such as "Blue Chesterfield Sofa" and "Blue Velvet Queen Anne Armchair". My question is, will I have a better chance of ranking if the keyword I'm targeting comes at the start of the page title? for example Blue Linen Chesterfield Sofa, Duck Egg Blue Velvet Queen Anne Armchair, Kingfisher

The same keyword on multiple pages, but not all (combined with other relevant keywords) for products.
Hi Guys, I want to get an opinion/advice on this. My client has a site that have all their products (I am working on expanding the product descriptions, benefits and how they differ from each other) listed and I just want to know if I can use the term 'gear oil' for example on multiple pages as one of the keywords. The product range (among others like transmission fluid and anti-freeze) is gear oil (with the different types of gear oils available described) and I can't really change what the product is. I do have different variations (such as gear lubricant, automotive gear lubricant, car gear oil etc.) but will it do damage if I use the same keyword (like gear oil) on multiple pages (along with another relevant keyword that does not involve the words gear oil)? Any help on this will be greatly appreciated!

Tips to know best adwords keywords of competitors?
I am about to run adwords campaign. I have questions- I want to know best adwords keywords that competitors are targetting. Is there any good way to find out the best keywords that competitors use which generate large amount of traffic to them? Can someone guide me how to use adwords in best possible way such as how to pay less and yet receive large number of targeted traffic? Tips are welcome from the community. I am about to start a campaign for this website which deals with Independent Sales Reps. So the adwords keywords will be related to Independent sales representatives who help in establishing new businesses and exporters.

Partially Duplicated Content Advice
Hi Folks, I have a question about how duplicate content works. We sell all different kinds of goat milk soap. Each kind has its own product page and unique description. However, there are some benefits that all of the different soap have in common. I'd like to list those benefits on each individual goat milk soap page, with the product-specific benefits and description right below it. My questions are: 1. If I include the same exact block of text and images on each page, along with the unique description. Will the search engine see that as duplicate content? 2. Furthermore, will this dilute any keyword ranking ability that content brings to a page, because it occurs on 15 different pages? (i.e. the search engine can't tell which one is the "best" result). If so, what do you recommend in this kind of situation? Thanks, Hal

How do you do Keyword Research for a company that creates a lot of content
I work for a media company that owns 4 magazines. Our company is constantly producing new content. How do you do Keyword Research when the subject of your content is constantly changing? Do you need to do Keyword Research or do you simply optimize every article that you write for the web? Any ideas?
