Sudden drop in trust flow
-
Hi there, we've noticed a sudden drop in both trust and citation flow scores for many of our clients' websites. We haven't done any black hat activities nor done anything differently the last few months that we can think have contributed to this. We have however noticed a backlink from a website: http://www.wordsmith.org/awad/archives.html that has appeared across all the websites which have dropped in rankings. Could this link be the contributing factor & would that mean someone has linked it to our clients' websites?
-
We contacted Majestic but no change from them. The backlink actually got removed from the offending site. Good to see our trust flow has gone up again. We had a client who was getting pitches from another seo company so I suspect they might have added this link temporarily and then removed it - crazy ethics!

Hi Rachel,
Given that Trust Flow and Citation Flow are metrics calculated by Majestic SEO, it could be worth sending this to their team to see if a link like that could have affected them.
If you've seen a drop in rankings as well, it is definitely worth investigating further to see what factors could have contributed to this. I'd be surprised if a single link like this would lead to a drop in rankings across many of your clients. If you think this is the case though, it's worth trying to get the links removed to see if that helps. If you can't get it removed and you're sure that this is the cause, then it's worth disavowing the link.
I hope that helps!
Paddy

Sudden drop in external links... why?
We had a lot of external links (2.5K, which was good compared to our competition), but in the last few weeks, it dropped 1.1K. I obviously did something wrong. What are the causes of such a dramatic drop like that? Questions, suggestions, ideas, anything is welcome at this point. Thanks!

Need advice: How to replace a high-ranking pdf with a landing page -- without dropping much in rank?
Hi! We have a pdf of a white paper on our site that ranks #1 for a niche term. We are now exploring the idea of building a landing page for this paper with an overview (2-3 paragraphs) and a registration form for interested parties to fill out in order to access the paper. Do you think there'd be any hope of ensuring the new landing page would rank almost as well eventually (top 3)? I'm thinking a key consideration would be preserving the link juice from the existing links that are coming into the pdf, and that 301 redirecting the pdf URL to the new landing page URL could help with that. Am I right? Or would it be better to try to reach out to the linking sites and ask them to update their links (seems daunting). Any advice/opinions on this situation would be appreciated. (If folks think that there would be a significant risk of permanently dropping out of the top 5 by attempting this, we would likely choose to leave the pdf ungated as is.) Thanks!! -John

Does Google drop links from page rank N/A sources?
Hi Everyone,
Link Building | | AMA-DataSet
I've started doing some link analysis on one of my site that has over nearly 800 links in total (which I got from the webmaster tools downloading the latest links). When I go on to Google and use the "link:www.mysite.com" directive it will only display 12 links. Does this mean Google is only counting 12 links from the link profile? Iv checked the freshness of some the links it wasn't displaying within Google to check they hadn't all expired. Links from march 2013 still don't appear. This sites link profile has been untouched for at least a year now and is full of directories many of which have a page rank of N/A hence my question. (I'm surprised it hasn't been hit by penguin!) Thanks in advance.0 -
Rankings Drop Penguin 2.0
Hey guys, Suffering a horrible rankings drop after penguin 2.0. We have 4 popular sites and have seen a steady decline in rankings and traffic after 22nd May. I've looked into it a little bit and am wondering if WordPress blog sidebar links might be hurting us. Specifically my brother and I both have sidebar links on our personal blogs which are getting indexed on every page, and I'm wondering if it's distorting our link profiles. Specifically, I read something about links coming from sites which aren't relevant to your niche and overly optimised anchor text. Both sites have very simple single keyword anchor texts on the links. We're pretty white hat in terms of SEO, we've never done that much link building, and when we do, it's usually with worthwhile directories or with sites we have relationships with. Therefore we don't have that many links. Any ideas on how best to investigate this? Thanks.

Open Site explorer shifting results - which to trust and not to trust?
I was doing a search on Open Site Explorer, comparing my site with competitors in the field. When looking under the Page Specific Metrics tab I first got the results that I had no internal links whatsoever, and 8 external links in total. I had a page authority of 34, and so on. Then I saw it suggested that my domain was redirecting to www.mydomain.com/ (a slash at the end), even though this is wrong. But I clicked the "see this url instead" and now the results changed a lot. It now shows that I have 72 internal links, and 6 external links. And also a lower page authority of 28. Now you might say it is because I changed the url to the one with a slash, but I changed back to the one without a slash (and now I don't get the message about the redirect). What's up with open site explorer? What results should I trust?

Why have my rankings suddenly plummeted?
My site has been ranking well for the last couple of weeks on it's primary term "glee fansite" and now the rankings literally plummeted 5 days ago and now it is around 22 for "glee fansite" and many of it's other terms have just dropped out completely! Is it likely the rankings will come back if I keep on with my current strategy or will I need to start from scratch? Thanks! HMFwM.png?1 HMFwM.png?1
