Schema types for webinars, infographics, datasheets, product videos and eBooks
-
Hi,
I’m looking to add Schema markup to my company pages’s webinar page (recording past webinars) and data sheets, infographics, product videos, eBooks/white papers. For eBooks, I am primarily referring to a landing page with a gate to download a PDF document.
I’m trying to determine the best markup type:
For Webinars, I’ve seen suggestions to use “Event” type but that seems appropriate for future events, not something like a recorded webinar, which is not time-sensitive, unlike a live event. However, I see a StackOverflow forum to use http://schema.org/recordedIn for recorded webinars.
For eBooks and White Papers, I see a few potential schema types:
https://schema.org/DigitalDocument
https://schema.org/CreativeWork
http://schema.org/EBook (or https://schema.org/Book and then book format type of Ebook)

{
"@type": "Person",
"name": "Johnny Depp"
},
{
"@type": "Person",
"name": "Penelope Cruz"
},
{
"@type": "Person",
"name": "Ian McShane"
}
],
"aggregateRating": {
"@type": "AggregateRating",
"bestRating": "10",
"ratingCount": "200",
"ratingValue": "8",
"reviewCount": "50"
},
"author": [
{
"@type": "Person",

"director": {
"@type": "Person",

},
"name": "Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides (2011)"
}
</script>
This schema is help me to index my website fastly. -
@WhiteHat1 Hey there! For a webinar, the most appropriate schema would be a combination of Event and OnDemandEvent due to its online nature. However, as of my last update, OnDemandEvent was more suitable for an event like a movie or TV show that is available for streaming whenever you want to watch it, rather than a live webinar that takes place at a specific time.
For most live webinars, you should use the Event type with an eventAttendanceMode property set to OnlineEventAttendanceMode. The VirtualLocation type would also be used instead of a physical address.
Here's an example of what that schema might look like:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Event",
"name": "Interactive Webinar on Data Science",
"description": "Join our expert panel as they delve into the latest trends in Data Science. This webinar will cover a range of topics from predictive analytics to deep learning.",
"startDate": "2023-12-01T18:00:00+00:00",
"endDate": "2023-12-01T19:30:00+00:00",
"eventAttendanceMode": "https://schema.org/OnlineEventAttendanceMode",
"eventStatus": "https://schema.org/EventScheduled",
"location": {
"@type": "VirtualLocation",
"url": "https://www.webinarhost.com/event123"
},
"image": "https://www.webinarhost.com/images/event123_banner.jpg",
"organizer": {
"@type": "Organization",
"name": "Data Science Community Forum",
"url": "https://www.datascienceforum.org"
},
"performer": {
"@type": "Person",
"name": "Dr. Jane Doe",
"url": "https://www.datascienceforum.org/speakers#JaneDoe"
},
"offers": {
"@type": "Offer",
"url": "https://www.webinarhost.com/register/event123",
"price": "0",
"priceCurrency": "USD",
"availability": "https://schema.org/InStock",
"validFrom": "2023-11-01T09:00:00+00:00"
},
"audience": {
"@type": "EducationalAudience",
"audienceType": "Professional"
},
"recordedIn": {
"@type": "CreativeWork",
"name": "Data Science Webinar Series"
}
}
</script>Some points to consider:
eventAttendanceMode: Specifies that the event is an online event.
location: Uses VirtualLocation with a url property to indicate where the webinar can be accessed.
offers: Contains details about the registration or ticketing, which in this case indicates a free event.
recordedIn: If the webinar is part of a series, you might include this to reference the series.
Make sure to validate your structured data using Google's Rich Results Test or similar tools to check for any errors or warnings that might affect how search engines interpret and display your content.I really hope that this helps!

No Index No follow instead of Rel canoncical on product pages
Hi all, we handle our product pages no with rel canonical now, we have 1 url that is indexed http://www.prams.net/cam-combi-family the other colours have different urls like http://www.prams.net/cam-combi-family-3-in-1-pram-reversible-seat-car-seat-grey-d which canonicalize to the indexed page. Google still crawls all those pages. For crawl budget reasons we want to use "no index, no follow" instead on these pages (the pages for the other colours)? Google would then crawl fewer pages more often? Does this make sense? Are their any downsides doing it? Thanks in advance Dieter

Will more comprehensive content on product pages help improve ranking?
We're working to improve the ranking of one of our product landing pages. The page that currently ranks #1 has a very simple, short layout with the main keyword many times on the page with otherwise very little text. One thought we had was to make a more comprehensive page including more info on the features and benefits of the product. The thought being that a longer form page would be more valuable and potentially look better to Google if the other SEO pieces are on par. Does that make sense to do? Or would it be better to keep the product page simple and make some more related content on our blog linking back to that landing page? Thanks in advance to any help you can provide!

4000 new duplicate products on our ecommerce site, potential impact?
Hello, We've currently got 9500 products live on our site at the moment with ~2000 in this category that we're adding the new products in. All of these products we're adding are coming from a site that we own and we're trying to expand the range on our site (the 9500 product site has a lot more visitors than the 4000 product site). However, all these products imported I believe are atleast duplicates from the 4000 product site, but the first ones I have seen (500) are manufacturer duplicates. What issues are we potentially going to run in to? Just for extra information: We have no control over canonical/noindex/robots etc

What are the search pros and cons of a transcript of a video in scroll box
This is being considered for fairly templated pages as a means of adding unique text to the page, without giving up a ton of real estate. The text is all visible in view source, but only the first few lines in the scroll box. The box itself is just above the fold. How, do you think this would affect search? Any other ideas for handling this. I'm limited by what the client will accept. Thanks... Darcy

How to fix Invalid Product Page registering as Soft 404
Somehow with our site architecture Google is crawling URLS for products we no longer carry (there are no links to those pages so I am still trying to figure out how Google is finding them).Those URLS are being redirected to our invalid product page. That invalid product page is returning a 200 OK code, but according to Google it should be a 404 so we get a soft 404 error. Google is seeing all of the URLs that redirect to that page as soft 404's as well. The first solution I can think of is to create a custom 404 page that looks just like our site, says we don't have the page/product they are looking for, has a search bar, sends a 404 code, etc. Is this the right way to go? And it will probably take some time to implement so is there a quick fix we could do first?

[e-commerce] Should I index product variants?
Hi guys, I have e-commerce site, that sells car tires. I was wondering would I benefit from making all Product Variants ( for example each tire size ) as different page, that has link to the main product to provide some affiliation, or should I make each variant noindex, and add rel=canonical to the main product. The benefits from having each variant indexed can be many: greater click through rate more relative results for customers etc. But I'm not sure how to handle the duplicate content issue ( in this case, only the title, URL and H1 can be different ). Regards.
