What defines what words in a title are considered Keywords?
-
Hi, sorry if this is a silly question.
I'm curious how keywords are defined. Is every word in a title a possible keyword? If I have a keyword titled "Linear Shower Drain | 40" Long", does it take the whole thing as a keyword? Is just "Linear Shower Drain" the keyword? Would "Shower Drain" pop up as a keyword, since its nested in the title?
Thank you in advance for your answers!

Yes, this can be confusing when you're first starting out.
A keyword is a word or a phrase that your target audience would use when they perform a query in a search engine for a product or service, etc. For example, if the target audience for a particular landing page is a professional plumber, the copy on your landing page might really focus in on "40" linear shower drain" because a plumber might know to search for that right off the bat. However, if the target audience for a landing page is a DIY'er who is researching how to build a shower pan for the first time, their initial searches may revolve around simply "shower drain". While both "40" linear shower drain" and "shower drain" may be considered potential keywords for your overall web marketing plan, you might only focus on one of those for any particular piece of web content, while the other would not be considered a keyword for that page.
The reason different web pages might be crafted to target these individual terms is that the more specific a page can be in tailoring content to a certain keyword, the better able it is to compete with strong competitors who are also targeting that key phrase. If your page uses terminology that broadly applies to both audiences, Google is less likely to rank your page higher than a competitor page that focuses granularly on only one of them when that's what the searcher queries.
Simple, huh!
I know, not really. : )

Any combination of any of those words used in the title tag would be keywords that that page could potentially rank for in the SERPs.
So all of the following are some of the keywords in that title tag that you are optimizing for:
- linear shower drain
- shower drain
- 40" shower drain
- 40" long linear shower drain
- etc.

Keyword Research for Low Volume Keywords
Hey friends, I'm looking for a little keyword research direction here, specifically for keywords and phrases with low search volume. I'm just going to give a recent example: I just finished a piece of content on customer experience. I began the process with some keyword research. Based on Moz's keyword explorer, "customer experience" has a monthly volume of 2.9k-4.3k. Sweet. So I move onto related queries and longer tail phrases to narrow my content approach. But just about any relevant phrase shows either a volume of 0-10 or 11-50 and very similar difficulty metrics, making it tough to choose a direction. So "what is customer experience" shows a monthly volume of 0-10. SEM Rush reports ~350 searches a month. I understand SEM Rush uses broader match, but I guess what I'm asking is: how do I perform keyword research with such minuscule volumes and such little data to differentiate? I've looked at Russ Jones' answer to a similar question here on how Keyword Explorer works: https://moz.com/community/q/what-is-a-good-keyword-volume-score ... but I still don't have a ton of clarity. Any advice would be awesome!

How to Choose the Best Keywords for a Website
I am working with an insurance agency that wants to target the below types of insurance in Dalton GA, Ringold GA, Chattanooga TN and and/or Georgia. Home Insurance
Keyword Research | | lagunaitech
Auto Insurance
Health Insurance
Life Insurance
Restaurant Insurance
Contractor Insurance They are a new agency that doesn't have a website yet and only a small online marketing budget. Right now, I'm starting to work with them on their new site and want to make sure the on-site SEO works with the insurance/locations they want to target. What I'm having trouble with is the volume of monthly searches and trying to find keywords that they could realistically get some traffic and leads from. Most of the keywords I check with the Adwords tool are less than 50 exact match searches or just show a dash. The only keywords with a decent amount of exact searches are the main insurance types like "restaurant insurance" or "home insurance Georgia". How can I get an idea of the number of leads and amount of traffic this site might get when most of the keywords searched for only a handful of times per month? I can build the site to easily target all the above types of insurance in Dalton, GA, which has a population of about 33,000, but I don't know what kind of results this agency might expect if they were to rank in the top 3 spots. Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice!0 -
How many times to use a keyword on a page?
Okay, so i have read around, and watched Matt Cutts' video on this and read rand's post about this. But, I still have questions; how many times should I use a keyword on a page? I have read for shorter pages 2-3X and 4-6X for longer pages. I know to put it in the url title h1, the first paragraph and sprinkle it around the page. Is it all realtive to how long the content is? or should I just be following the 2-3X and 4-6X rule? Thanks for your help. Peter

Keyword search tool or API
Anyone have a suggestion for a simplistic (scaled down) version of a keyword research tool that I can put on our website? We need our clients to be able to perform some basic keyword research on their own without getting lost in the details of something too robust. We would like to control aspects of the tool, capture the data from the site visitor and move those results (from their searches) into a database or other web application.

Should i change title tags?
I want to change all of the title tags on my website by adding a couple of more keywords (not keyword stuffing) but our previous media company chose words that were not aas relevant as ones I found. However I was warned this is a bad idea, it will make traffic drop and if it works we will only see about 5% increase to pages. Please advise. Should I change them and hwo should I do it? One by one slowly while changing content to match or all at once?

Keyword Difficulty Tool
Hello, I've been using the above more and more - with some great results. I have just run a report for a brand term and that brand has the new style sitelinks - 12 in total. So the output from the Keyword Difficulty Tool is focussed solely on the main url and then 9 sitelinks, rather than 10 different domains. Is there anyway around this? What do people think I should do? Is it: a) ok to use the output or b) because the output is skewed to one domain is the data not robust enough or... c) something else?? Thanks Alex

Keyword Dulication in Tags
As I mostly work with Belgian/Dutch customers, my keywords are often in Dutch. We have a lot of composite words such as "hooikoortsklachten" or "hooikoortverwachting". If i were to create a Page Title with content: Hooikoortsklachten | hooikoortsverwachting Is this parly duplicated (because of the word hooikoorts x2)? or does Google only consider the entire word? Insights would be much appreciated! Thanks
