Localized pages with hreflang markup being reported by Moz as duplicate content
-
We have 5 websites, each targeted at a different geography. They are all in English, but targeted per country (e.g. US, Canada, UK, Australia). And we've properly implemented hreflang tags on each page, with the US site being the x-default, and with each country-specific page having a self-referencing hreflang tag as well as individual hreflang tags pointing to the other country-specific versions.
All seems to be working properly with the search engines.
But, each week in our Moz Pro campaigns, Moz reports the pages as "duplicate content". It seems that Moz does not regard the hreflang tags when deciding if content is duplicate or not. I'm not 100% sure that's what's causing Moz to report them as duplicate, but it's my best guess.
To date, I've been marking these as "ignore". But, that creates two problems. First, we have new pages all the time, and so this gets to be laborious. Second, it makes it somewhat likely we might miss a real duplicate content issue.
Can someone confirm whether Moz should be looking at hreflang tags before considering pages as dupliacte? And possibly offer any suggestions to us if Moz doesn't do that?
-
Thank you Dave. Yes, please do submit as a feature request. Operators of global sites often have "duplicates" of every single page on their sites, which hreflang (when properly implemented) is intended to distinguish as non-duplicates (but rather country/language variations). So, this would be very useful, in that it would allow us to focus on real duplicate content issues, instead of false positives. But your answer was the confirmation I was seeking, so thank you for clarifying.

Our crawler was built before hreflang was in practice and unfortunately hasn't been adjusted for these new practices developed. Unfortunately, this means we aren't currently able to recognize that directive. I'm happy to submit this feature request on your behalf to our product team for possible future improvements in Site Crawl.
In the meantime, you can "ignore" the issue within Site Crawl so we stop reporting on it. You can learn more about that here: https://moz.com/help/moz-pro/site-crawl/ignoring-issues
I hope this helps to clarify!

-Do I eliminate somehow the product category? Not sure how to fix this. 2) It has all of my category pages listed as archives showing duplicates. I don't know why, as they are not blog posts, they hold products on them. I don't have an archived version of this. How do I fix this? 3. It is saying my page speed is slow. I am very careful to optimize all my photos in PhotoShop. Plus I have a tool on the site to further compress. I just went with another host company that is supposed to be faster. Any ideas/ I would so appreciate your help and guidance. All my best to everyone, be safe and healthy.0 -

Will MOZ be updating there tools with regards to the new Meta Description length?
Now that Google has increased the number of characters allowed for meta descriptions/snippets when will MOZ be updating the tools to cater for the new lengths? I'm sure a lot of my Meta descriptions that are being flagged as too long with disappear once updated. Cheers Lee B

Suggestion to Improve Moz's Link Data
Hello All. The recent Index update (29th January) seems to have produced quite a few shocks to Moz Pro users. Index updates always cause panic and joy every time they are released. However, I feel this is a big improvement that could be made. In this last index, the DA for my site has remained the same. I was expecting a rise, simply because I have been doing some link building since October and was expecting the results to start showing around this time. However, the link metrics for my site looked worse this month than ever before. The index clearly didn't crawl sites and pages that it has crawled the last couple of indexes, and I noticed a few links disappeared from the metrics altogether, links that I know still exist. So I have a suggestion... If Moz has collected link data in previous indexes, can it not preserve that data rather than starting afresh with every new index. Regular checks could be conducted on existing link data to identify expired or broken links, but to disregard them and start anew with every index seems a little odd. That way, Moz would have much more accurate and comprehensive link data which would help to avoid the DA inaccuracy, and provide users with a better measure of how their site is performing against the rest of the web. This may be naive because I do not know the technical side to index updates. Any thoughts, advice, suggestions etc would be appreciated.

Idea for the new on-page tool in Pro
Hello, I just ran about something, which looks like a minor change (at least to me, but i totaly get, that what looks like a minor change to the outsider might in fact be a big deal from the developers view) but could easily enhance productivity with the new onpage-tool. In the overview of tracked on-page reports, I think it would be a great idea, to show the number of unsolved suggestions next to the score. Additionally, I'd love to flag some unsolved suggestions on a single page as "ignored". Why should I ignore a suggestion? For example I'm working for a customer, who is using a pretty old e-Commerce System. Therefore there is no possibilty to easiely add canonical tags. Also on some pages, it is not feasible to get below the 100 links per page threshold. On Pages, that list all products of a certain brand, I naturally get the "avoid spamming" suggestion regarding the brand-name Some Pages adress Keywords with german Letters like ÄÜÖß, which cannot be found in the page URL (while Google does get that "über" and "ueber" are the same thing). So there are cases where I can't - or simply don't want - to solve the suggestion. Now it happens almost every week to me, that I see keyword ranking, lets say, at 7 with a score of something like 87. The usual instinct is to click the report to look for the last tweaks. Often then I realise, I checked this report few weeks ago and can't or won't do anything regarding the remaining suggestions. If it would have something like "3 unresolved suggestions (+ 2 ignored)" standing next to each score in the reports overview, it would be my personal usability dream come true - since the number of open suggestions is more important to me then the score. To make it even more aweseome, add a simple filter: "Only show Reports with not-ignored unresolved suggestions". Whoohooo, that would make you one happy customer! Maybe that is something, many people would enjoy to see in an update. Cheers, Christian P.S. sorry for my bad englisch - hopefully you got the idea. unbenannt-3.jpg.html
