Aged .com domain or brand new .co.uk for UK site?
-
Should i buy a 2 year old .com domain or brand new .co.uk domain for a site i am making for UK (google.co.uk optimisation).
I am struggling to find good aged .co.uk domains, there are loads of nice .com's that are old,
any thoughts?
thanks

For UK searches, google will recognise that a .co.uk site is probably more relevant than a .com if you were just comparing by that factor alone, but there are many, many factors that are more importance than this which make up a ranking.
Also, it's worth bearing in mind that if you transfer a domain to a new registrant and the site from a content perspective wasn't existent before or the content is changed dramatically in the process (or around the same time) then the domain age will most likely have very little impact. In fact factors such as how long you renew the domain for will probably have more impact. For example if you buy the domain for 4 years it will look less spammy than a 1 year renewal.

Make this a business decision rather than an SEO decision. Think about which domain is right for your business in the longer term. Consider your brand. These considerations should outweigh any potential gains (minimal) on the SEO front.

In my experience the age of a domain has absolutely ZERO value. If you have a 10 year old domain vs a brand new domain, if all other factors are equal the domain rankings will be identical.
If an older domain currently has links which are related to your site, that can certainly have value for the domain. If the domain name has a user base who may visit the site and you are prepared to handle that traffic, that can add value as well. The age itself is not a factor.
My advice would be to pick the best domain name you can find irregardless of the age.

Directing a domain.com/BLOG to a different host
Hello,
Web Design | | SharonEKG
i cant seem to figure out how to approach this matter. we have a website and a domain setup in one place and we wanted to setup a blog for that website on a different hosting, what do i have to do to link between the two to make it so when a user type domain com /blog he will get to our blog that is hosted on a different hosting plan? with the blog hosting plan we received a temporary domain that does not expire but i have been told that if i redirect to that temporary domain it wont work correctly also, if we do manage to go through that process will accessing the blog will the URL show domain com/blog or will still show the temporary given domain? is my only option is buying a new domain and just link between the two? Thanks!0 -
Existing URL structure and how to handle new pages before migration
Hi there! Currently, our site uses underscores "_" within the url structure. We are moving to Wordpress soon (the site is currently static html) but it will be a couple of months before the migration. Here is an example of the current structure: www.oldsitestructure.com/about_us/success_stories/custom_vinyl_banners When we do change, our url structure will have hyphen's "-" to separate terms, so the preferred new structure will be: www.oldsitestructure.com/about-us/success-stories/custom-vinyl-banners The entire site (with the exception of our Wordpress blog) currently uses the old structure. We have about 10 - 15 pages we will add before our migration, my question is: Should we use the preferred url structure starting NOW or stick with the old one? And set up 301 redirects are part of the migration process? Many thanks!

Best way to indicate multiple Lang/Locales for a site in the sitemap
So here is a question that may be obvious but wondering if there is some nuance here that I may be missing. Question: Consider an ecommerce site that has multiple sites around the world but are all variations of the same thing just in different languages. Now lets say some of these exist on just a normal .com page while others exist on different ccTLD's. When you build out the XML Sitemap for these sites, especially the ones on the other ccTLD's, we want to ensure that using <loc>http://www.example.co.uk/en_GB/"</loc> <xhtml:link<br>rel="alternate"
Web Design | | DRSearchEngOpt
hreflang="en-AU"
href="http://www.example.com.AU/en_AU/"
/>
<xhtml:link<br>rel="alternate"
hreflang="en-NZ"
href="http://www.example.co.NZ/en_NZ/"
/> Would be the correct way of doing this. I know I have to change this for each different ccTLD but it just looks weird when you start putting about 10-15 different language locale variations as alternate links. I guess I am just looking for a bit of re-affirmation I am doing this right.</xhtml:link<br></xhtml:link<br> Thanks!0 -
Website spread over two domains - The Good,The Bad and the Ugly ?
Hi, I am wondering if the way I have set up our website site is creating more harm than good ? All our SEO efforts and content is located @ www.sparrowmakeup.com.au however our portfolio is located at www.make-up-artists.com.au. Questions ? Will Analytic bounce rates effect my SERP, as most people click on the portfolio link in the first 5-15 sec of landing on our page ?? Is there a better way of setting it up ? the reason I set it up like this in the first place was because we wanted a different look/theme for the portfolio. (using WP) Is there any other issues that this setup might have in the SEO / SERP department ?? Is there any benefits and how can I maximize on them (silver lining) Your help and experience is greatly appreciated. Regards Ed

Thoughts on how to speed up my site? (Other site ideas.)
I was wondering if someone had a few minutes to talk a look at our site and see how to speed it up. I've ran some of the speed tests and I get different results, so I'm not sure if my site would be considered "slow" or not. Also if there any other things that jump out at you (usability, side bar, things I should change / add / take away to make a users experience better, etc.) please let me know. Any feedback is good feedback to me. 🙂 I'm using WP Super Cache as well. Thanks!

What reason would scrapers, and syndication sites outrank all of our content?
Typing in any of our titles for content, scrapers and content syndication sites all outrank us by quite a bit. What is the main reason for this usually? I started noticing this happening quite a bit this year, and think maybe it has to do with panda. Has anyone figured out the reasoning?

Can anyone rcommend a UK Hosting company
As some of you may have seen in an earlier post, i have had problems with the speed of my site. After good advice i got an expert on board who done tests and found that my server (hosting company) was taking a long time to answer, on some occasions it was taking seven seconds. I have tried to get the hosting company to listen and sort the problem out but they are not interested and keep trying to sell me other things to get the site faster, i am already on a dedicated server. So now I am looking for a UK hosting company who offer good service and would be grateful if anyone could recommend some on here so i can speak to them, as i want to get my sites moves a.s.a.p many thanks
