SEOBook Rank Check Problem
-
Has anyone who uses SEOBook Rankcheck in Firefox (version 7) had problems with the tool picking up rankings for Bing, but not Google? I've got keywords that I know I rank in the top 10 (and my Raven account confirms it), but when I run a report on Rank Checker, those same words aren't ranking; instead I just get a "-". I've tried restarting my computer and emptying my cookies; but no luck.
Any thoughts?

I use it almost every day & it typically works for me.
Whenever it doesn't, we quickly fix it.
With Google you may need to disable Google Instant from the Google preferences page.
Never seems to pick up rankings and when it does, it seems to be incorrect.<
If you read (gasp, actually read) the instructions on the download page it explains how it works & why there can be variances in the data
Google
3 things that may cause results to differ when you use Rank Checker vs when you search Google directly.
- personalization - if personalization is on then the results you see might be different than the results other see. This is true even if you are not logged into an account results can be altered by your recent prior search queries. To remove personalization bias, we offer an option that turns it off.
- clustering - to send Google less queries we grab 100 results per page. If 2 pages from the same site are in the search results they will be clustered together, so in many cases a low ranking page will see rankings shown even lower on our tool due to clustering. If you add &num=100 to the address bar in Google the results should be fairly well aligned with our tool.
- datacenter and algorithm changes - at different times of day your query might access different datacenters, and algo changes also happen all the time...Google did around 450 algorithm adjustments in 2007.
Even if the numbers do not exactly line up they are still good for helping you see the general ranking trends.
I think I remember someone saying it needed a makeover, or was having one.<
Please feel free to point to the source when you are trashing someone's work. No need to do the "some people say" crap. I may have said there is stuff we could do to improve it and we were testing some stuff...but that is mostly around adding more features. The hard part on that front is that the more features we add the harder it is to maintain & the increased complexity leads to more complaints. Not a big deal if the complaints are from paying customers, but when you put complex things in front of freetards bad things happen!
I will say that since it was made primarily with my taste & goals in mind it isn't perfect for everyone, but it is better than most the paid options. Advanced Web Ranking is an awesome rank checking tool that has a ton of features if you want more of them...but I have an issue with how complex we can make a free tool before freetards light us up on the public relations front for their own incompetence.
If we went to paid only we would be able to add a lot more features.

Hi Eric, this tool has been dodgy for me for a while. Never seems to pick up rankings and when it does, it seems to be incorrect. I think I remember someone saying it needed a makeover, or was having one.

Unsolved Wild fluctuations in ranking, any thoughts on why or what to do about it?
We have a keyword which is important to us and used to have rock steady rankings for over a decade. Over the past 9 months or so it has been fluctuating all over the place. Jumping up or down 20 places or so overnight. Any thoughts on this behaviour and what we should be doing to stabilise the ranking?Screenshot 2024-05-13 at 09.47.jpg

UTM parameter problem
Hi guys, Google Search Console gives me an error on these pages: info:https://www.conversal.be/?utm_content=bufferbaaa4&utm_medium=social&utm_source=plus.google.com&utm_campaign=buffer info:https://www.conversal.be/?utm_content=bufferece3f&utm_medium=social&utm_source=plus.google.com&utm_campaign=buffer I see there's an UTM tracking in the URL from Google+. We do have an account there but I don't see how this might give an error. Is this hurting our ranking score? How can we solve this?

Problems with analytics, conversation data and assisted conversions
Hi guys. Having issues with analytics. Firstly, it doesn't record all our sales accurately. My boss downloaded a sales report directly from our site, and it doesn't match up to the analytics, our actual sales were significantly higher than Google analytics was reporting (by about a 1/3). Any idea why Google is missing so many of the conversions? Also, I'm trying to work our how many assisted conversion we are getting from our ad words campaigns. I've been looking through our top conversion path data to try find conversions that started with a paid click. However, I seem to have some inconsistencies. We have only one ad words group that is on the display network (Re-marketing V1 Ad group 1) , and according to analytics we have a conversion from it (See Screen shot 1). However, there is no record of this in our ad words data. (See screen shot 2). This is over the same time period. I don't know what to take from this. Can anyone help? Isaac. Rank #1 for a 110,000/month query search, but barely any traffic?
Hi guys, As it says in the title, we've recently reached the absolute #1 position for a certain key phrase in the travel industry which the Google Keyword Tool tells me averages 110,000 local (165,000 global) searches a month... however we have received barely any traffic at all over the past TWO months for it and I'm trying my best to determine why. We've checked on multiple different devices with all forms of personalisation off, different browsers, 3G connections as opposed to office Wi-FI etc. and it still returns us as the #1 rank. Meta descriptions and title tags are pretty much pristine if I don't say so myself, however what should be a very lucrative key phrase is currently returning little to no traffic results. Has anyone had experience in a similar situation to this? Any possible causes that I might be missing? Would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

Weekly Yahoo #1 rankings seem faulty
For the past 3 weeks I have been getting several #1 rankings on Yahoo or Bing but then when I check it on the same day I get the reports from SEOmoz...I am not even ranked in the top 50 on most. After the 1st week I thought it was just a quick drop in rankings but 3 weeks in a row...something is not right. Is there a problem with SEOmoz yahoo rankings? Boo

Ranking Testing
At times when I change something on my site it effects my rankings. For my business I care mostly about my rankings in certain locations (not local). How can I see how I am ranking in various locations at a given time? I see several tools out there, but none of them seem to work. For example I recently I added a badge to my site and my ranking dropped a spot locally, but I do not think it did elsewhere. The value of the badge is worth that if it is just local, but if it made me drop a ranking in one of my major markets it would not be worth it.
