Blog On Domain Or Off?
-
Hi,
Which do you think is more powerful ito SEO rankings for my domain? Should I make the blog part of my domain or should I create a blog on a seperate domain?

Thanks to all for the great feedback. I only wish I had read this last week. Unfortunately I created a subdomain. Unfortunately our primary domain is fairly antiquated and not conducive to blogging/social sharing, etc. (legacy to my arrival) so I guess in the short/intermediate term I had no choice until we overhaul the website next year.

If the blog is clearly on-topic with the main domain; it would help the domain authority.
for my house painting website our blog resides in a subfolder and it has really helped our organic rankings in the last 6 months. A blog is a good method to get new content up and running.

Thx guys, so on site it is

As long as the blog is connected to the website in question; I would make the blog part of your current domain, preferably in a sub folder rather than a separate sub domain. This method then allows you to add fresh content onto your blog that will also have a positive effect on the site as a whole.
By putting the blog on a separate domain, you're moving the positive effect of having the blog away from your website, and therefore your website won't benefit. Sure you can create links from the blog to your website, but if it's a new domain this won't carry any authority and if the blog is on the same server/registratio details as the website then Google will be able to pick up on this and possibly devalue them anyway.
So, unless the blog isn't connected to the website or you're looking for long term gain in building the blog up as a separate domain then keep it on the website.

My feelings on the topic are mostly black and white. If your blog is on topic for your website, it should be on the site. If your blog covers other topics not related to your site, it should be on a separate domain.
Locating the blog on your main site offers the potential benefits of higher DA for both your blog and main site.

titles length, URL length and meta descriptions on a subdomain effecting SEO on main domain?
Hi all, I am currently evaluating areas for optimization on my main domain. When doing this, Moz has identified multiple titles and urls that should be shortened and missing meta descriptions on my subdomain (a help center of sorts). As far as I am aware, we have not set up any "no-index" rules for this subdomain. Are these items affecting SEO on my main domain? Thanks,

Thousands of 404's showing up from Wordpress Blog!?!?
Hey guys, Have recently seen thousands of 404 errors thrown up from my wordpress blog in Google Search Console. These are URL's trying to link (i'm not sure where from) to other parts of my site, but they are not relative to the site root... infact they are a mix of random folders/subfolders and pages on my site. E.g: http://www.MYSITE.co.uk/blog/how-to/driving-to-the-alps/attachment/2013-land-rover-range-rover-evoque-front-snow-1/st-martin-de-belleville/chalet-st-martin-de-belleville/ski-holidays/ski-holidays/summer/st-martin-de-belleville/summer/your-stay-st-martin-de-belleville.html This is a link to a picture on the blog: http://www.MYSITE.co.uk/blog/how-to/driving-to-the-alps/attachment/2013-land-rover-range-rover-evoque-front-snow-1/ And the rest of it is finding it's own way there! Any ideas? This is Wordpress by the way. Cheers, Paul. p.s. I got no help from the Wordpress community so am posting here! p.p.s I forgot to mention that MOZ is reporting these issues too, but running Screaming Frog does NOT show any 404's at all on my site...

Agency Domain Authority Boosting Activity
Hi Guys Have been reading up a bit on methods for boosting Domain Authority and am generally finding that the best way is by producing unique and relevant content through blogs and other kinds of articles. Having multiple clients in an agency means that there is limited time for this and I need something else to assist in boosting Domain Authority. I perform a fair bit of backlinking through online directories, however I am also finding that most blog comment sections have implemented 'no follow' codes to reduce spam content. There are plenty of free online directories, and many with high Domain Authorities, however they can take up to months for the listings to be approved. I am performing other activities to boost keyword rankings in Google for our clients but need some help with getting their Domain Authority up. Does anyone know of an efficient method for boosting Domain Authority for an agency with many clients where blog writing for each may not be a viable option? Would be great to hear anyone's ideas!

How to transfer old WP blog to new URL
I have a 9 year old WP website with a WP blog which is still getting 300+ new visitors a day even though I have not written a blog for 5 years and have not updated content. Some posts have over 25,000 links. However the Moz analytics is fraught with significant errors-404 redirects, page not found, dup content, no metatags, title too long etc. I was totally inexperienced 5 years ago and made many errors. However the basic content was sound and still is producing new visitors. I am starting a new ecommerce website using the same name but the URL and server will be different. I want to transfer my WP blog to the new site. I am concerned however that bringing the posts over can create the same errors on the new site. If I update all of the blogs on the old site using Yoast before transferring the blog to the new site will that help. I suppose I could check those flagged dup content and only transfer one of that category?

Are blog pages hurting rankings?
Let me begin by saying that I have a Wordpress site with a customized theme. When I view my webpage's crawl diagnostics, it keeps showing a lot of Warnings. There are 89 pages with Too Many On-Page Links and 90 Pages with a missing meta-description tag. The problem is that the pages are listed as follows for both errors: Blog Page 10 Blog Page 11 Blog Page 12 Etc. There are no other pages, just the blog pages (which include about 7 posts/page). How do I eliminate the too many links without deleting them from individual blog posts, and how do I add meta-description tags to blog pages without duplicating the tag for /blog? Thanks! | | | | |

Blog Post Snippets on HP & Cat Pages
I want my blog's category pages to have the ability to be indexed and rank, therefore I don't want to noindex these pages. My strategy is to create original snippets for each post on these pages but I don't know what Wordpress plugin or configuration I can use to create original snippet content on the Homepage and Category pages that will not show up within the blog post text itself. Any suggestions?

Generic domain for SEO versus Brand name
I am currently building a retail e-commerce site in a highly competitive area. We have a generic brand name; e.g. kitchen-knives.com and we also have another brand name, e.g. 'slycers.com' We have 3 options that I can see and I would like to know which is better for SEO. Build generic.com as a blog site. Link to brand.com 301 redirect from generic.com to brand.com. Use generic.com as anchor text in all links 301 redirect from brand.com to generic.com . Use generic.com as anchor text in all links Also, if there are other better options, then I would appreciate the input! thanks
