How to Use Open Site Explorer
-
I've used Open Site Explorer here at SEOmoz for the first time and I'm confused by the results.
I'm wondering how dated the results are? And, what are they based on?
For example, I'm certain my facebook shares and like are higher...same with the twitter links. It seems kind of old?!
One of my competitors who gets about 2x more traffic than me DOES have great backlinks. I know that. BUT, it's odd that her facebook and twitter results are what they are compared to mine - they're WAY higher in site explorer AND her links seem on par with her facebook page whereas mine don't. Whereas mine seem WAy Way lower than what they are in reality.
She barely tweets and facebooks any more. Maybe once per month. She started out gangbusters, but doesn't do it much any more.
That's kinda why I'm wondering if it's based on older stuff and not updated often? Anyone know?

Hi Susanna,
The Social Data is pulled daily from the APIs provided by Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. The numbers might seen low for a few different reasons:
First, the Facebook share count is only for those accounts that are public which reduces the number of shares we can truly see.
Second, Twitter only counts the native Twitter share and not when people do a tweet with an RT in front. Hence the lower numbers you might see.
If you are seeing any other issues, please let us know by sending us an email at help@seomoz.org.

I would imagine from the relevant API's, and I'm guessing it would make sense for them to update those data counts with their linkscape data, otherwise report loading time would be slowed to call up the API each time.
Although this is just guess work as I can't find any info on this in the wiki or about sections for the tools.
(Edit: Also worth noting the Google+ data is currently in Beta)

YA, but where does SEOmoz get the data for that App from? Just because SEOmoz updates it every week doesn't mean it'll be up to date?! Right?!
-
Hi Susanna,
I assume this data is updated at the same time as the Linkscape data, in which case it's around every 4 weeks: http://apiwiki.seomoz.org/w/page/25141119/Linkscape-Schedule
There's one due tomorrow, so good timing! It's probably worth following SEOMoz on Twitter/Facebook too as I believe they update once the linkscape update has been run.

Unsolved Using Weglot on wordpress (errors)
Good day to you all, Does anyone have experience of the errors being pulled up by Moz about the utility of the weglot plugin on Wordpress? Moz is pulling up URLs such as: https://www.ibizacc.com/es/chapparal-2/?wg-choose-original=false These are classified under "redirect issues" and 99% of the pages are with the ?wg-choose parameter in the URL. Is this having an actual negative impact on my search or is it something more Moz related being highlighted. Any advice be appreciated and a resolution .. Im thinking I could exclude this parameter.

Why did Moz crawl our development site?
In our Moz Pro account we have one campaign set up to track our main domain. This week Moz threw up around 400 new crawl errors, 99% of which were meta noindex issues. What happened was that somehow Moz found the development/staging site and decided to crawl that. I have no idea how it was able to do this - the robots.txt is set to disallow all and there is password protection on the site. It looks like Moz ignored the robots.txt, but I still don't have any idea how it was able to do a crawl - it should have received a 401 Forbidden and not gone any further. How do I a) clean this up without going through and manually ignoring each issue, and b) stop this from happening again? Thanks!

How can I download all the inbound links to my Site?
Hi, From Site Explorer, I want to download all the inbound links linking to my site: www.comm100.com/livechat/. But it seems that there is a limitation. I can only download a part of the inbound links? What should I do? Or is it because my account is free trial? Do I have to pay for it? Please help. Thanks,

Open Site Explorer results vs. Google Webmaster Tools results
I've been comparing the links to my domain that OSE and GWT show and GWT shows many more links than OSE. Can anyone explain the difference? Does Google report no follow links that OSE does not?

Only 2 internal links in OpenSite Explorer?
In Open Site Explorer´s tab Full list of Metrics I get for the Page Specific Metrics only 2 Internal Followd Links for one of my websites domain URL. I have checked this metric for other websites and I get some surprising results. Most of the websites get an amount which seems logical take the size of the site into account. But there are a couple of sites more for which I get very low results like only 1 or 2 Internal Followed Links! This is strange because the sites do have at least more than a 100 internal pages which are all linking back to the domain and are indexed in Google. I have checked if there is something strange with the robots.txt or htaccess but I havent found anything. So I wonder if this a failure in Open Site Explorer or can there be any other explanation? Anybody with similar experience? aNp83
