On-Site Optimization and Repeat Customers
-
Hello,
One of my clients has repeat customers. All of his surface level categories are optimized.
None of his 2nd or 3rd level categories are optimized at all.
Is there any harm in optimizing these 2nd or 3rd level categories. Is there any way it could cause a problem with repeat customers?
I didn't think so but I want to make sure.
Thanks!

I would start with your client's most valuable pages and make sure those are optimized. Then I would work on the other categories/product pages that your client's long-term vision for the company is reflected in. For example, when I sold outdoor clothing, the company was expanding into outerwear long-term, so I made sure to optimize my outerwear categories and product pages, especially to get into keywords that we weren't known for or even ranking for.

Yes, I know not to reoptimize pages already optimized, but this is a successful site and I want to be careful even if I just add to the optimization.
We have too many products to optimize all levels, just category pages, but I would love to hear why/how to optimize individual products

What type of problems are you concerned with? How would repeat customers be affected by your optimization, in comparison to new customers? Sorry for the questions but just trying to better understand your questions and concerns.
Like Cisaz said I like to optimize all levels. Cisaz advice is right on point. I would just add to use these 2nd & 3rd level categories to target longer tail keywords.

That is a very good questions.
In my opinion, we i like to optimize all levels, but just being sure I don't repeat, or replicate any meta information.
All just needs to be relevant. To keep the page content quality score.

Thoughts on archiving content on an event site?
I have a few sites that are used exclusively to promote live events (ex. tradeshows, conference, etc). In most cases these sites content fewer than 100 pages and include information for the upcoming event with links to register. Some time after the event has ended, we would redesign the site and start promoting next years event...essentially starting over with a new site (same domain). We understand the value that many of these past event pages have for users who are looking for info from the past event and we're looking for advice on how best to archive this content to preserve for SEO. We tend to use concise urls for pages on these sites. Ex. www.event.com/agenda or www.event.com/speakers. What are your thoughts on archiving the content from these pages so we can reuse the url with content for the new event? My first thought is to put these pages into an archive, like www.event.com/2015/speakers. Is there a better way to do this to preserve the SEO value of this content?

Nofollow within your site, is it ever a good idea?
I started a new job running a companies E-commerce site. I have been going thought the site, backlinks etc to see what the current status is. I have noticed that they have "no followed some categorises on the (huge) mega menu, but also they have no followed every product form categories. Now personally I would have no follows on the login/register/checkout page, and maybe some external links, but my understanding has always been that by using no follow on internal links you just throwing away google juice. I'm thinking was someone at some stage trying to do some misguided link sculpting with no follow, or I'm I missing something Note: the company does not have brands per say for the product pages and so are not landing pages (the categories are landing pages)

How to Recover From Unstable Site Structure History
I have a site that has suffered several phases of restructuring. Apparently its owners were unsure as to which direction to take when it came to structuring their content and URL schema and subjected the site to several rounds of poorly thought through implementations (i.e. example.com/content/page-title, example.com/page-title, example.com/"silo"/page-title, etc.), all within a 8 month period. I posted the originating question here on this Q&A Forum. I want to thank EGOL and Cody for taking a stab at it. What would be a good strategy to help a site like the one I describe above begin ranking again?

Site Maps / Robots.txt etc
Hi everyone I have setup a site map using a Wordpress pluggin: http://lockcity.co.uk/site-map/ Can you please tell me if this is sufficient for the search engines? I am trying to understand the difference between this and having a robots.txt - or do I need both? Many thanks, Abi

Removing old URLs that are being used for my on page optimization?
Is there a way to remove old URL's that are still being used for my keywords for my on page optimization? They are giving me grades of F since they no longer exist and if I change the URL to the current one, the grade becomes an A, but they are still showing after the new crawl.

Customer Review Capture / Google Approved Review Sites
We are interested in showing customer reviews on our website (in UK for seo purposes- UGC) and are initially reluctant to use a 'What customer say' or Testimonial page as we think customers may think we have just made these reviews up? I wanted to ask what methods you folks use to capture reviews? If you use 3rd party providers do you have any recommendations? (I found this link but it seems a little outdated as it doesn't include for example eKomi:http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-rank-well-in-google-products-search-a-big-list-of-places-to-get-reviews) Thanks in advance.

On Page Optimization Reports
How is it determined which terms and associated urls are chosen when SEOmoz tracks your On-Page Report Card? I'm receiving a lot of F Grades for terms I'm not really interested in and a lot of terms I'd like to be tracked aren't. Is there a way I can manually choose which terms and pages I'd like to be shown?
