SEOmoz API - Links and Anchor Text Calls
-
Hi,
I'm testing out the SEOmoz API - however I'm stuggling to understand the use of the Cols parameter within the "anchor-text" method.
I've looped through increasing numbers of "Cols" for a standard query and there just seems to be no logical pattern.
** - Could someone please enlighten me as to how this works?**E.g. of results for query:
1Array ( [0] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451138 ) [1] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451144 ) [2] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451131 ) ) 2Array ( [0] => Array ( [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atut] => seo ) ) 3Array ( [0] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451138 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451144 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [aturid] => 86128451131 [atut] => seo ) ) 4Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 ) ) 5Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451138 ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451144 ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451131 ) ) 6Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [atut] => seo ) ) 7Array ( [0] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451138 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451144 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atui] => 38845159274 [aturid] => 86128451131 [atut] => seo ) ) 8Array ( [0] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 ) [1] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 ) [2] => Array ( [atuiu] => 0 ) ) 9Array ( [0] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [aturid] => 86128451138 ) [1] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [aturid] => 86128451144 ) [2] => Array ( [atuiu] => 0 [aturid] => 86128451131 ) ) 10Array ( [0] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [atut] => seomoz ) [1] => Array ( [atuiu] => 1 [atut] => seomoz.org ) [2] => Array ( [atuiu] => 0 [atut] => seo ) )
Links API:
Similar confusion here for:
"TargetCols"
"SourceCols"
"LinkCols"The description here http://apiwiki.seomoz.org/w/page/13991141/Links API - is a bit vague
It appears that the links API spits out everything anyway - that one's less of an issue.
So... could anyone explain how the Anchor-text API parameter Cols works??
Cheers!
-
That's brilliant Casey - that's exactly what I was looking for!
Basicly Cols = bitflag
So to dump all data for anchor-text Cols=2042
Thanks!

The Cols parameter works just like it does in the Links API. For example:
http://apiwiki.seomoz.org/w/page/13991127/Anchor Text API
If you want to display term or phrase, which has a bit flag of 2 and internal pages linking which has a bit flag of 8, your Cols Parameter would be 10. That would return both the term or phrase and internal pages linking. You simpily add the bit flags and use that as your Cols Parameter.
This makes it so you don't have to loop through and make a bunch of call to get multiple columns.

Count of Inbound Internal Links
Is there a simple way, using the moz tools, to get a count of inbound internal links for a given URL? Seems simple enough but I'm having trouble finding that specific data point.

Duplicate page titles in SEOMoz
My on page reports are showing a good number of duplicate title tags, but they are all because of a url tracking parameter that tells us which link the visitor clicked on. For example, http://www.example.com/example-product.htm?ref=navside and http://www.example.com/example-product.htm are the same page, but are treated as to different urls in SEOMoz. This is creating "fake" number of duplicate page titles in my reports. This has not been a problem with Google, but SEOMoz is treating it like this and it's confusing my data. Is there a way to specify this as a url parameter in the Moz software? Or does anybody have another suggestion? Should I specify this in GWT and BWT?

Why did SEOMoz only crawl 1 page?
I have multiple campaigns and on a few of them SEOMoz has only crawled one page. I think this may have to do with how I set up the campaign. How do I get SEOMoz to crawl more than one page on these campaigns.

Competitive analysis of inbound links
I am trying to figure out how to best use SeoMoz tools to do some competitive analysis of inbound links. With the site explorer tool I can "compare Link Metrics" I see that a competitor is beating me on External Followed Links and Total Linking Root domains. I want to dig further into this data and see how these are distributed. What I am really after is which root domains are sending them the most links. Knowing that 20k of their links are coming from 5 specific root urls would be great to know. Is there anywhere that I can see this data. Ideal column headers would be: Linking Root Domain of Followed Links (from this root domain) Linking Domain Authority The ability to drill down from there into specific links would be mind blowing. Is there any way to browse this type of data in SeoMoz?

Linking C Blocks - SEOMoz says its a good thing?
In the competitve analysis, one competitor have more Linking C Blocks, Seomoz has a tick by it almost like its a better thing. Surely a site with the same administrative relationship is not going to help you as much from a linking point of view.

Where is the best place to add links on my site?
If I'd like to put links to other sites in my site, is it better to have a page named "Our Helpful Links" etc. instead of just adding them to the bottom of an existing page like I've seen on some sites? I'm asking because I'm wanting to make Google as happy as possible and still add them. Just in case it helps to look at the site yourself to give advise its; http://www.allstatetransmission.net If you see anything else there that I should work on feel free to be hard on it, I value any criticism. Thanks, Jeff

Over 90% of anchor text tends to be brand-name on OSE link profiles. Why?
I reported this as a bug in OSE, because often I explore these links and find that the pages include both a brand-name link AND a regular keyword link, but for some reason OSE was only reporting the brand-name link... This led me to wonder how many links this occurred for, and therefore whether or not to trust the fact that the majority of the sites I ran OSE on returned at least (in most cases, more) than 90% brand-name links. I understand that brand-name links are amongst the most important to obtain, but that it's also important to get anchor text for keywords to build a varied profile. Given this apparent flaw in OSE, is it wrong - in the case of very successful sites - to take this ~90% as being anywhere near the correct percentage of brand-name links that I should be aiming for as a proportion of the total profile? Extra Credit :)... And this may help potentially help resolve the issue: does "Inbound Links" tab in OSE just report links to the Root Domain, or to that and every other page on the site?
