Google new update question
-
I was just reading this,
http://www.entrepreneur.com/blog/220662
We have our official site, which has 200+ service pages, which we wrote once and we keep doing SEO for them, so they rank high all the time.
Now my question is, how does Google handle the site freshness ?
Service static pages or if we are adding blog items, then also they consider them as fresh site, right ?
So, we dont have to update those service pages, right ?

Whenever hearing SEO news from a non-industry source such as entrepreneur magazine, my first recommendation is to locate the actual report from the source. In this case, the source is Google: http://insidesearch.blogspot.com/2011/11/giving-you-fresher-more-recent-search.html
If you desire further analysis, the next best thing would be locating the topic on a trust SEO site: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/googles-freshness-update-whiteboard-friday. The goal is for you to obtain the most accurate and complete understanding of the change and how it affects you. Outside magazines often add glamor for headlines, make interpretative errors or miss important consideration points. This is not a hit on Entrepreneur magazine at all but a recommended best practice.
For this update, certain keywords are affected. Specifically those which are deemed affected by a "freshness" factor. The impact to your site depends upon your content. If your page titles are "sunglasses", "MX1000 Sunglasses by Revo" and such then the impact will likely be low. If your page titles are "Justin Bieber sunglasses" or "SuperBowl sunglasses" then the chance of your queries being affected by freshness are much more likely.
With respect to exactly how Google responds, no one knows for sure outside of Google, and they don't explain the details of their inner workings. It is highly likely they are looking for brand new content. For the most part, this is new web pages. They may accept new content being added to existing pages as well. What we can confidently say is that changing the date on your existing content or shuffling words around aren't going to help.

It is more a page by page thing, not site wide.
How I understand it, is in 2 parts
QDF Query deserves freshness, when you search for keyword, Google brings back not just the most authoritive, relevant results, it likes to bring back a few fresh ones also, as well as a few local and other factors too, like sites selling keyword, sites with documentary information about keyword.
The freshness update is different again, let’s say you enquire about football, then it is assumed that you want the latest info, like latest results, injuries, team selections and stuff. So Google tries to bring you these results, it also works out who is publishing this information regularly and indexes them more often. It gives these results more importance only why they are fresh.
The freshness update does not affect all queries, if affects about 35% of queries.
If you were looking up George Washington, then you would not expect to see the freshness update affect results.

50% Visibility drop following June 2021 Google Update
Hello everyone,
Algorithm Updates | | yacpro13
We've observed a 50% drop in our Visibility score in the last week. This is our biggest drop ever, which coincides with June Google updates. We're an established ecommerce website located in Canada. This has obviously severely impacted sales. I'm frantically searching for information regarding fixes / implementations to recover asap, but if anybody could point us in the right direction, that would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!0 -
Google panda, penguin or Patience needed?
Dear friends, On 3rd of May, i suffered a Manual google unnatural outbound link penalty. I recovered from the said penalty on 27th of June. However, i have noticed that my traffic has been dropping since 23rd April. I am confused where to target my work. Should i work on thin content and is it an algorithmic Panda problem (but my keywords are still ranking good) or is it a Penguin problem (I had 6 domains with payday loans backlinks and i have dosavowed 32 backlinks recently) What should be my plan of action here and what would you recommend? An image is attached herewith for your reference, PHd8BzX.png

Google Maps marker inconsistency
We just discovered that depending on the address format you enter into Google, you may come across incorrectly placed marker locations on Google Maps. Is this because our Google Places address format is not consistent with Google Maps' format? If so, when I go into Google Places to update the address format, am I going to have to go through the citation process all over again?

De-indexed homepage in Google - very confusing.
A website I provide content for has just suffered a de-indexed homepage in Google (not in any of the other search engines) - all the other pages remained indexed as usual. Client asked me what might be the problem and I just couldn't figure it out - no linkbuilding has ever been carried out so clean backlink profile, etc. I just resubmitted it and it's back in its usual place, and has maintained the rankings (and PR) it had before it disappeared a few days ago. I checked WMT and no warnings or issues there. Any idea why this might've happened?

Is it normal to receive 2 mails from Google?
I filed a reconsideration request that was answered in less than a week. Subsequently I was told that no manual penalty was in place but various algorithm factors might be causing my heavy drops in ranking. Then I got a second email which was even more specific. This was great, really heartening stuff and a total surprise as it was very helpful. Is it normal to receive 2 emails from Google with such clear information? I have been very pleased by the comments they have made as it has shown me that they're more customer focused than I had been led to believe by all the research I had done pre reconsideration request. Has anyone else had a clear outline of what they needed to fix and has their site subsequently rebounded post fixing?

How can I help the ranking on the EN version? Why does Google.ca FR and EN have different rankings?

New Algorithm changes
the real time news feed style in which we all use the internet these days. How do you think this new change is going to effect things ? “This is the result of them saying we need to find a way to more effectively get fresh content up,” said Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Land and an industry expert. “It does help with the issue of people thinking, ‘Wow, if I need to find out about something breaking, I’ll go to Facebook or Twitter for that.’ ” Is google reacting to a massive loss of traffic volume from Facebook and Twitter ? I also ask the question would Facebook benifit from some form of built in search engine or would this never happen ??
