Why are Backlinks not showing up?
-
I've been building backlinks for about 2 months now, but the links are not showing up in seomoz. What is going on?
I've built backlinks across many different domains and using a variety of techniques including:
- directories
- blog posts
- blog commenting
- pr websites
- industry sites that allow blog posting and press release posting
- industry forums
Some of the links I built were from finding links competitors had and then creating a similar link, like blog commenting. In some cases I took blog articles from our site and published them on industry blog sites.
I've searched for many of the pages and I CAN find them, so they ARE being indexed by Google, but they are not showing up as backlinks. I've read some posts that say it can take anywhere from 2 to 5 months or longer before the links show up. I've also read that Google's Webmaster Tools may show the links before seomoz does.
Couple questions:
- Why don't the links show up as backlinks in seomoz?
- Will they show up eventually in seomoz and, if so, when?
- Should the links show up in Google Webmaster tools before they do in seomoz?
- Is there any good reason to believe some of the links will never get recognized, or should I be confident that they will eventually get recognized?

Linkscape, which powers Open Site Explorer, only crawls the top 25% or so of the web right now. Also, the crawl is done once a month, so that's why it can take some time to show up. We're working on getting the crawls faster, but that is why things are slower than Google. We have a few less servers than they do at our disposal to make the crawls.
We did just have an update this morning, you might want to check out the blog post from Rand for more information.

I have found that it takes 6-8 weeks for most links to show...sometimes up to 5 months. I once got a link from a reputable website in my niche in page anchor text do - flow link and it was a 5 month process on SEOMOZ..although SEOmajestic and Linkbuilder showed it as a link.

.edu backlinks.. where to point them for a scholarship
Hello, My company offers an annual college scholarship to Women in Business. I have numerous colleges that have agreed to post our scholarship on their college websites. I want to make sure I get the full value of the .edu backlink and need some advice. I have a brand new scholarship page with no authority and that's basically orphaned from the rest of the website. This page details the application process for the scholarship. If I were to link out to my home page, and say 3-4 other top landing pages, would this be the best way to flow some of that link juice into my site? Or is there a better way to do this? Another thought I had was this.... I could take one of my top landing pages, www.example.com/example, and place the scholarship information on that page at the bottom, and have the school link to this: www.example.com/example#scholarship (so the scholarship info appears on top when applicants click it)-- My question here is this... becase the second URL includes an anchor, does google treat that as a different page? Or would the pagerank flow to www.example.com/example ? Recovering from unnatural link warnings and algorthmic penalties and trying to get the best benefit out of the new, quality links I'm building. Any advise would be appreciated! THANKS!

Why aren't my backlinks showing up?
I've recently switched hosting my site on www.vamospaella.com to www.vamospaella.co.uk (using a 301 redirect) and I've been building backlinks. According to Majesticseo, vamospaella.co.uk has 38 backlinks with 8 referrring domains and vamospaella.com has 15 external backlinks from 11 referring domains. Some of these backlinks date back a month, while others have shown up in the last week. However, I have seen no improvement in my Google rankings for my keywords. Why is this?

Effectiveness of Forum Backlinks: specifically Paul's Backlinks
I know the general consensus is that these kinds of backlinks are of low value, however I'm curious as to anyones present day experience with them and if they are providing any value. More specifically, I am curious if they can do harm. I don't see how they could, as it would be a very easy tactic for an unscrupulous competitor to sabotage another by implementing them for their competitors. I can see possibly losing rank if they were discounted, however if this is the case, then it would only be rank that would not have been gained in the first place, minus those kinds of links. I ask because I have competing websites who have started to outrank me (they have been climbing and improving through each Google algorithm change in the past year), despite the fact that my mosrank and authority are better than every single one of them. But they have a sheer growing volume of backlinks that I can't match (seemingly low value when I look at their link profiles). Plus my domain is older (9 years as opposed to 3-4 years), and my site is clearly better (in terms of aesthetics, usability, content, etc), as well as my link profile being selectively cultivated from truly relevant sites. None the less, they are starting to kill me at this point -and I don't have the luxury of time. So....I was wondering about the wisdom of upping my volume of forum type links, as this is the only area of measurement where I can see my competitors are beating me. I am a believer in true, difficult, quality inbound marketing - however it is not getting the job done. Any thoughts on this?
