Canonicalization issue I cant work out
-
Seo Moz have kindly brought to my attention some canonicalization issues with my site.
Firstly I've adjust http://capitalalist.com to 301 redirect to http://www.capitalalist.com via htaccess.
But the crawl has shown for every page in my site the problem below:
http://www.capitalalist.com/cirque-du-soir
http://www.capitalalist.com/cirque-du-soir/
It's just that last / that's causing the problem. But I can't seem to see anyone having the same issue before.
BTW im using wordpress if that makes a difference.
Can anyone elaborate on the issue? How would i adjust my htaccess file to redirect a request with a / on the end of it?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Paul, try something like this, but there are many variations of these on the web.
Posted this just as the yoast post was coming on.
#add trailing slash
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.[a-zA-Z0-9]{1,5}|/)$
RewriteRule (.*)([^/])$ http://www.capitalist.com/$1$2/ [R=301,L]add www for non www pages
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^capitalist.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.capitalist.com/$1 [L,R=301] -
The good folks at Yoast created a Wordpress plugin to deal with this very issue:

Ranking Issue for New Site
Hi all, I have got a specific SEO challenge. 6 months ago, we started to build an eCommerce site (located in the UK). In order to speed up the site launch, we copied the entire site over from an existing site based in Ireland. Now, the new UK site has been running for 5 months. Google has indexed many pages, which is good, but we can't rank high (position: between 20-30 for most pages). We thought it was because of content duplication in spite of different regions. So we tried to optimize the pages for the UK site to make them more UK-related and avoid content duplication. I've also used schema to tell google it's a UK-based site and set up Google my business and got more local citations. Besides, If you could give me any suggestions, it'd be perfect.

Community Discussion - What old-school SEO tactics no longer work? Which ones still do?
Hi there, friends! This week's discussion comes from today's Whiteboard Friday: Rand's outlined SEO practices that are outdated and no longer effective. Did anything catch you off-guard, making you want to pivot your strategy? Anything that you disagree with, or that you feel still works well regardless? What other tactics, in your experience, no longer work?

Website Indexing Issues - Search Bots will only crawl Homepage of Website, Help!
Hello Moz World, I am stuck on a problem, and wanted to get some insight. When I attempt to use Screaming Spider or SEO Powersuite, the software is only crawling the homepage of my website. I have 17 pages associated with the main domain i.e. example.com/home, example.com/sevices, etc. I've done a bit of investigating, and I have found that my client's website does not have Robot.txt file or a site map. However, under Google Search Console, all of my client's website pages have been indexed. My questions, Why is my software not crawling all of the pages associated with the website? If I integrate a Robot.txt file & sitemap will that resolve the issue? Thanks ahead of time for all of the great responses. B/R Will H.

Understanding how to fix a 403 issue with my website
Hi guys, I hope you can help solve a mystery for me! My site FranceForFamilies.com has been around for 9 years and has always ranked well - at least until I launched a new Wordpress version earlier this year. The purpose of the relaunch was to improve the look of the site, so I kept the content and meta titles the same but created a new design. However, from the day of the new launch the search engine rankings have plummeted, to the point where most seem to have disappeared all together. I have found that when Moz crawls the site, it only crawls one page. I asked the Moz team about this and they said that the site is returning a 403. They also tested this using a curl and received a 406 response: curl -I www.franceforfamilies.com/ HTTP/1.1 406 Not Acceptable However, when I check our Google Webmaster tools I can't recreate the issue. I don't really know what is going on, and I don't have the technical knowledge to solve this - can you help? Thanks, Daniel
