Blog Setup
-
A client has been blogging for about a year on http://blog.abccompany.com/ and has a page authority of 37.
With it's built up past history, should we change the blog to a subdirectory, http://www.abccompany.com/blog ?
Obviously thinking what is the best long-term strategy / benefits.
Thanks, Chris

There's no single best answer here. Generally speaking, by consolidating the sub-domain into the root, each link pointing to the blog carries slightly more weight because it's feeding the blog AND the main site in a more direct manner. Traffic and organic clicks through to the blog also pass weight more cleanly (and thus with more strength) to the blog and main site as well.
A key factor however, is "What is the topical intent of the main site?" Is the main site an eCommerce site? The topical intent in this case is transactional. If that's the case, and since the blog's topical intent is informational, you may not see as much gain through consolidation compared to a situation where the main site's topical intent is also informational.
Unfortunately, there's no specific guarantee one way or the other in regard to the amount of impact merging transactional and informational content would have, given there are so many other factors weighed in SEO these days.
If you do migrate, be sure you get as close to 100% parity with implementing 301 redirects from the old blog URLs to the new blog URLs. That would be crucial. If the blog currently has an extremely high volume of organic traffic, and if the main site is transactional, I'd recommend leaving things as they are. If, however, the blog only has limited organic traffic, I'd recommend merging, and doing a full media push (press release, social drive, etc.) to let the world know, and immediately signal to the search engines that this change is a big deal, so as to ensure the most likelihood that any minor bleed-off from 301s is mitigated.

Will adding /blog/ to my urls affect SEO rankings?
Following advice from an external SEO agency I removed /blog/ from our permalinks late last year. The logic was that it a) doesn't help SEO and b) reduces the character count for the slug. Both points make sense. However, it makes segmenting blog posts from other content in Google Analytics impossible. If I were to add /blog/ back into my URLs, and redirected the permalinks, would it harm my rankings? Thanks!

My blog post for a specific keyword is in the 'omitted results'. Why might this be, and how to overcome it?
My website Homepage: http://kulraj.org Here is the page I am working to rank for:** http://kulraj.org/2014/07/15/hedonic-treadmill/** When I search specifically for 'kulraj hedonic treadmill' just to test it, the first result is this: kulraj.org_/tag/_hedonic-treadmill. It shows the shortened version of the article that is within the Tag page. [I'm new to SEO and Moz, please keep in mind] Moz has told me I have duplicate content, which is regarding my main Blog page and Tags page, which is true the content is duplicate. However, the actual blog post itself is not displayed anywhere else on the website, or anywhere else on the web. Moz confirms this, and reports no duplicate content warning. My questions, therefore, are: 1. How do I actually go about installing a rel canonical tag within a standard WordPress dashboard (I'm using Genesis Framework) - I'm finding great difficulty finding instructions on this anywhere on the web. I clearly need to fix the issue with Blog page and Tags Page. 2. Why would my blog post be omitted, and are there any suggestions I could implement to bring it into the main search results. Other things I've noticed: 1. If I type this URL in: kulraj.org/hedonic-treadmill, it automatically redirects to http://kulraj.org/2014/07/15/hedonic-treadmill/ 2. Inside Google Webmaster Tools it says: No new messages or recent critical issues. 3. Regarding the above, when I click 'Labs > author stats' within Webmaster Tools, it shows nil stats, so something there is not quite right either, even though Google+ Authorship is confirmed.

What's the best Blogging platform
A year ago an SEO specialist evaluated my Wordpress site and said she had seen lower rankings for Wordpress sites--in general. We moved our site off any cms and design in html 5. Our blog, however, is still on Wordpress. I'm thinking about moving to the Ghost platform b/c I only a blog. The drawbacks are one author, no recent post lists, no meta tags. Is it worth it to move the site off Wordpress. Will it affect my rankings much if I have great content? Does anyone have experience with or opinions on Ghost?

Webconfig setup
We're launching a new site for our client on their existing domain, and as many of the URL's are changing we need to create some webconfig redirects. However, rather than create a webconfig file which redirects each page on the existing site to a corresponding page on the new site, I was hoping to create redirect rules for the top landing pages only, and then have a catch all which redirects all other URL's to the homepage. How would you set this up in a webconfig file?
