Page links vs. domain links
-
Hello all,
I am trying to find out how Google weighs page inbound links vs. domain inbound links. I have a domain with about 100,000 inbound links and am adding a new page to my domain which at this time has 0 links. I will be trying to outrank a competitors page that has 6,000 inbound links to the competitors page, but only has 26,000 inbound links to my competitors domain . Is there a formula or a way to know how Google values a page link vs. a domain link?

+1 for Devin's comment. There is no such thing as a domain link. If your site is like mine, most of your external links point to your home page. Therefore, your home page has more PA than a deep page on your site. You can share this existing link juice with your new page by linking from your home page (and any other page with external links) to your new page. The juice will get diluted and it's no substitute for external links, but it will give you a quick boost. If your DA is strong enough, crosslinking within your domain may help your new page outrank your competitors without any external links.

So would say that if you have a page that you think should rank for a term, but it doesn't, and the front page or an intermediate page ranks instead, that we did a really lousy job on the detail page that we thought should rank?
What if you see that and you go to the end of the google results where they say they have omitted some results and you search again, and this time they show your detail page well above the intermediate page?
The detail page is new, so it doesn't have any incoming links initially

They can penalise and judge trust and stuff on a domain-level yeah, but what i meant is that you don't get domains in the SERPS, you get pages. Google picks the most relevant page to your search, rather than the most relevant website.

Devin, are you sure google doesn't rank domains?
Even google says that something on one part of your site affects everything on your site.

Hey,
Google doesn't rank domains, it ranks pages. Domain Authority is kind of like an average of the authority of all your individual pages. A high domain authority score is only relevant in so far as it suggests you have a lot of authoritative (rich in link juice) individual pages - which, I would assume, are linking to this new page.
A link to your wider domain will not be as valuable as a link directly to the page you want to rank. You'll still get the 'link juice' but it will be diluted because it first has to pass from the page that received the link across the other pages on your site and to your new landing page.
There's unfortunately no quick-fix formula you can use to determine how Google values a page based solely on the number of links present - there's just too many other factors to consider.. quality of links, context, anchor text, CTR, social signals etc etc..
.. I think I may be rambling a bit now cos it's late but I hope that helps a bit.

Linking root domains to your own site
I have been using the moz open site explorer tool and glancing at my competition. I noticed most sites if not all in the linking domains section have a link to there own site. How do i do this? On my site i have no established links and my score is only 1/1. Even with lower ranking sites that have there own site linking to there self have a 16/16. Any help would be appreciated I am pretty new to all of this. thanks

Links from my Own Blog to my Own Website and Link Scheme
Hi There, I use my own blog to give advices and offer information related to my business service. Of course in terms of SEO my blog is useful not only to expand my brand presence but also to acquire long-tail traffic. I use to insert a maximum of one link with a relative matching anchor text in every article of my blog pointing to my own webpage. Said that, the questions are as follows: Am I involuntarily participating in a Link Scheme with my blog? And If so, how many links can I send to my own webpage ? Shall I limit the number of links to a minimum? Thanks a lot for your advices.

Footer Links And Link Juice
I'm starting to learn about link juice and notice in GWMT > Traffic > Internal Links, that the list is in this order by the links counted on each page. Some are in the footer and some are in the header, with some being more important than others commercially i.e. /register /privacy /terms /search /sitemap /disclaimer /blog /register So I am wondering if I should add a 'no-follow' attribute to the footer links i.e. privacy, terms, disclaimer and leave the others as they are? Does this help retain link juice on each page where the links appear? Or am I missing the point all together? This is my website: http://goo.gl/CN0e5

How to link blog posts to web pages
In past I would write blog posts and link to a static web page. The link from the blog post to the static web page would be the same keyword(s) as the web page was optimized around. With the latest Google updates, it seems like the keywords linking to the web page need to be varied, but I'm not sure what the ideal system would be?

Domain Authority and nofollow links?
Hello, I'm wondering, are 'nofollow' links from websites with high domain authority beneficial? Would they boost our own DA? In essence, I'm wondering if there is added value (other than visitors clicking the link) to being linked to by a 'nofollow' link. Thanks!

Inbound Links from Web Pages Based in Other Countries
I have noticed that some of my competitors have in-bound links to their sites from high PageRanked websites. But when I investigate the websites, they are based overseas, to be mainly used for linking. Does it hurt them that the sites are based overseas despite the high Page Rank?
