How do i implement event tracking
-
Hi,
Please excuse me for being too simplistic or dumb.
I haven't had any experience in Event tracking so far. So, Please help me out
I want to track how many persons have clicked on "subscribe for Newsletter" button on website - http://bit.ly/w7iwdh
Pls can anyone paste here the code to implement this ?
-
files/map.pdf does this mean that map.pdf ( or whatever be name of PDF file )
have to be placed in files folder ?
-
So, there is no need to use /salesForms/orderForm1 in the code ?
is the code below correct ? Pls correct it, if you wish
Actually i wanted a simple code to understand things. Afterwards
i can go to complicated code like you people do
[Download PDF](http://www.example.com/files/map.pdf) ```
-
The code goes into the link which points to the download page (just as you have thought )
And the /salesForms/orderForm1 was a copy-paste from the article I have linked

Thanks. I understood quite a few things. Not a bad start
Why
/salesForms/orderForm1 ? what for ?
And where should i put the code ? In the link which when clicked goes to PDF file ?
-
your code should look like something:
[onClick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'Downloads', 'PDF', '/salesForms/orderForm1.pdf']);">Download PDF](<span>http://www.example.com/files/map.pdf) The "MyMap" you see in the code above is a Label. You can read further on: http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/eventTrackerGuide.html#Labels From the article which is linked above:
Setting Up Event Tracking
Before you can view event tracking results in your reports, you must set it up on your site following these steps.

Thanks for replying so quickly.
Actually i wanted to learn how to track PDF files in GA.
1. Where do i put this code ?
2. What is meant by MyMap in the code?
-
Hi Atul,
Do you have a thank you page after subscribing? if so, then you can track it with google analytics.
Set up a goal in GA: Decide one of the three types of goals you want. This can be URL Destination, Time on Site, or Pages/Visit. You will need the URL destination. just enter the Thank You page's URL and it is set up.
That should be the scenario.
I hope that helped,
Istvan

How to implement multilingual sitemaps when not all pages have translations
We are trying to implement sitemaps for a site that has localized content for a few countries. We’ve concluded that we should utilize sitemapindex and then create one sitemap per country. Now to the problems we’re facing. Not all urls on the site have translations, how should these urls be presented in the sitemap? Should they be stated simply like so? <url><loc>https://example.com/sdfsdf</loc></url> So urls with the hreflang attribute and without are mixed in the same sitemap, or is that a problem? (I have added empty rows to make it easier to read) <urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9" <br="">xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"></urlset> <url><loc>http://www.example.com/english/page.html</loc>

An immediate and long-term plan for expired Events?
Hello all, I've spent the past day scouring guides and walkthroughs and advice and Q&As regarding this (including on here), and while I'm pretty confident in my approach to this query, I wanted to crowd source some advice in case I might be way off base. I'll start by saying that Technical SEO is arguably my weakest area, so please bear with me. Anyhoozles, onto the question (and advance apologies for being vague): PROBLEM I'm working on a website that, in part, works with providers of a service to open their own programs/centers. Most programs tend to run their own events, which leads to an influx of Event pages, almost all of which are indexed. At my last count, there were approximately 800 indexed Event pages. The problem? Almost all of these have expired, leading to a little bit of index bloat. THINGS TO CONSIDER A spot check revealed that traffic for each Event occurs for about a two-to-four week period then disappears completely once the Event expires. About half of these indexed Event pages redirect to a new page. So the indexed URL will be /events/name-of-event but will redirect to /state/city/events/name-of-event. QUESTIONS I'M ASKING How do we address all these old events that provide no real value to the user? What should a future process look like to prevent this from happening? MY SOLUTION Step 1: Add a noindex to each of the currently-expired Event pages. Since some of these pages have link equity (one event had 8 unique links pointing to it), I don't want to just 404 all of them, and redirecting them doesn't seem like a good idea since one of the goals is to reduce the number of indexed pages that provide no value to users. Step 2: Remove all of the expired Event pages from the Sitemap and resubmit. This is an ongoing process due to a variety of factors, so we'd wrap this up into a complete sitemap overhaul for the client. We would also be removing the Events from the website so there are not internal links pointing to them. Step 3: Write a rule (well, have their developers write a rule) that automatically adds noindex to each Event page once it's expired. Step 4: Wait for Google to re-crawl the site and hopefully remove the expired Events from its index. Thoughts? I feel like this is the simplest way to get things done quickly while preventing future expired events from being indexed. All of this is part of a bigger project involving the overhaul of the way Events are linked to on the website (since we wouldn't be 404ing them, I would simply suggest that they be removed entirely from all navigation), but ultimately, automating the process once we get this concern cleaned up is the direction I want to go. Thanks. Eager to hear all your thoughts.

Hreflang tag implementation
Hi Mozzers, For an international client, we want to install hreflang tags for 3 different languages for their website in Belgium: dutch, french and english. The dutch version (nl-be) and the french version (fr-be) can perfectly be installed, but our developer has troubles implementing the english version (en-be). According to ISO 639-1 , "en-be" is apparently not supported. Unfortunately, we can't generalize the hreflang tags (), because our client has different websites in each country, so we need to specifically target Belgium here. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks,

Despite proper hreflang and lang attribute implementation using xml sitemaps, I'm seeing sitelinks from different countries. Any help please?
When someone searches for our brand in US, instead of only US links, users are served with canadian or iranian sitelinks. Despite we have properly implemented xml sitemaps with hreflangs, even we have implemented lang attribute in the head section of source code for every country. I'd be thankful for any advice.

Event Schema markup for multiple events (same location/address)?
I was wondering if its possible to markup multiple events on the same page for one location/address using the event schema.org markup? I tried doing it on a sample page below: http://www.rama.id.au/event-schema-test/ Google's schema testing tool shows that its all good (except for warning for offers). Just wanted to know if I am doing it correctly or is there a better solution. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you 🙂

Why is Coyscape showing content duplication error even after implementing 301 redirect ?
We are maintaining the corporate website of one of our prestigious clients "FineTech Toolings" (http://www.finetechtoolings.in). Recently I had raised a question regarding "2 websites running paralley in 2 diferent domains, i.e. 1 organisation having 2 different websites on 2 different domains". Recently my domain changed from http://www.finetechtoolings.co.in to http://www.finetechtoolings.in via 301 redirect, but still I am facing content duplication issue as per Copyscape. Hence I am having a small doubt regarding the same. Please note the following question very carefully and provide me the exact problem and the solution for the same: Even though I have implemented 301 redirect (http://www.finetechtoolings.co.in is redirected to http://www.finetechtoolings.in), which is completely ok as per the SEO rules, why is copyscape still showing that duplicate content exists in the former website? I think I am clear enough with my question.

What is the best way to deal with an event calendar
I have an event calendar that has multiple repeating items into the future. They are classes that typically all have the same titles but will occasionally have different information. I don't know what is the best way to deal with them and am open to suggestions. Currently Moz anayltics is showing multiple errors (duplicate page titles, descriptions and overly dynamic urls). I'm assuming that it's showing duplicate elements way into the future. I thought of having the calendar no followed at all but the content for the classes seems valuable. Thanks,

How to implement a temporary splash page?
Hello - Our company will soon be launching a major product enhancement and we have discussed using a splash page when a visitor hits our homepage to promote the launch. I'm thinking something similar to what Apple did on Apple.com to announce addition of The Beatles catalog ot iTunes. I've never actually implemented anything like this before and wanted to get feedback from the community on how best to handle this from an SEO perspective. Thanks, Jason
