How to use my time: Make my site bigger or make link wheels?
-
I have a site which consist of about 500 pages. It's the biggest of it's tiny niche, and I'm making a livin' out of it (it gets me clients). So this is important to me.
I have access to tons and tons of non-copyrighted relevant texts. This text is not on the www, and thus would be unique to google. All though the text is relevant, it's not really useful for my visitors.
How to use this text and get the most of my time spent?
1. Making thousands of articles on my website, with internal linking to the "selling" keyword pages?
2. Use text to make a lot of link wheels - eventually linking to my main site?
Thanx a bunch!
And if you have other suggestions I'd love to hear'em out
-
great response, I love the....
_"I would give these texts to my competitor and hope that he puts the dead weight on his site." _
You make a very valid point.
Content needs to be engaging, and if the content is just that, you stand a good chance of uses sharing your content.
shares = exposure = more visits = more sales
-
All though the text is relevant, it's not really useful for my visitors.
What's the goal here?
Are you trying to get useless traffic or weight down your website with a bunch of crap?
I would give these texts to my competitor and hope that he puts the dead weight on his site.
I believe that a small compact site with highly relevant pages competes better than a huge site with a ton of irrelevant crap.
I want my sites to be lean, mean fighting machines... not fat, out-of-shape wimps.
..............................
You asked about linkwheels. Don't do it.
-
Unless the content can be re-written into something useful, I wouldn't bother publishing it. It will do you no favours to have content that no-one wants to read. You want visitors to be excited to know you have produced something, not groan and look away
-
How would you make use of the content, then?
-
You do have to be careful of what you write and make sure it is of interest. If you just suddenly publish a load of articles (well, you would stage them anyway) that no-one really wants to read, as already said, you will get a high number of bounces and very little time spent on the pages / site.
Unique content that is applicable to your audience is the way to go
Andy
-- Oh, and steer clear of Link-Wheels. Old tricks that you will get nothing from any more. Google want to see content, content and more content
-
Oh, I never really thought of bounce rate..
It's outdated documents regarding my niche. Let's say you have a site about "How to climb mountains the modern way", then my documents would be stories of old-school mountain climbing. Relevant, but useless and uninteresting.
-
Can you elaborate on your "unique but useless" (my paraphrase) content? Normally I'd say to get as much content as you can out there but if it's not useful it might drive another signal you don't want: bounce rate.

Disavowing Affiliate Links - Domain or Actual Affiliate Link?
Hi everyone, Hope you're all having a great day, I have a question in regards to a site which I am about to disavow. Over the past 2 months a certain page of ours has dropped from the 2nd page, all the way to the 7th. I haven't been able to diagnose why, however, yesterday I discovered that a site has been using an Lafitte link on his sidebar, the link is a do-follow. Webmaster tools indicates that this site has linked to us over 24,000 times. I understand that this link could potentially ruin our rankings - however, in terms of disavowing, what is the best approach here? Do I disavow their domain, or do I disavow the actual affiliate link also? The link is placed within an image, once the image is clicked it redirects you to another link for a second then redirects to our money site. We have got in touch with our affiliate program and they have made the link a no-follow, however, we are pretty certain this site is causing issues for us and we want to go ahead and disavow. Thanks, Brett

Meta-description not used at all times
Hi all We are marketing an e-commerce site and seem to have a weird issue. For some reason the clearly specified meta description is not being used in the SERPs. Had a look in the source but all tags seems to be there. The site can be found here:

Site DA and squeeky clean link building
Hello, We've got a piece of useful content we're doing outreach for. No sites we have found are in our exact niche, but there are generally relevant sites we're targeting. What's a good rule of thumb for the minimum PR or DA we should go after to make sure our link building is squeaky clean for the future?

Link anchor text: only useful for pages linked to directly or distributed across site?
As a SEO I understand that link anchor text for the focus keyword on the page linked to is very important, but I have a question which I can not find the answer to in any books or blogs, namely: does inbound anchor text 'carry over' to other pages in your site, like linkjuice? For instance, if I have a homepage focusing on keyword X and a subpage (with internal links to it) focusing on keyword Y. Does is then help to link to the homepage with keyword Y anchor texts? Will this keyword thematically 'flow through' the internal link structure and help the subpage's ranking? In a broader sense: will a diverse link anchor text profile to your homepage help all other pages in your domain rank thematically? Or is link anchor text just useful for the direct page that is linked to? All views and experiences are welcome! Kind regards, Joost van Vught

Would the use of
Hi, I am wondering on you through relevant to SEO in the following situation. I have a "travel" website and obvisouls as part of that I have a whole list of desitinations. So I have a drop down in my page navigation, which lists all my desitinations. At the moment I see have 2 main options to display the lists as follows: 1/. Perfect Anchors, but not good for usability - IE repeating the word "holiday in a list of 100 destinations, looks spammy for one, and when the headline says "Holiday Destinations", then from a use perspective its pretty pointless and takes away from navigation rather than improves it".

New York Holidays
Las Vegas Holidays 2/. Non Perfect Anchors - But better for usability
New York
Las Vegas So I am thinking - would the use of the title attribute provide a perfect solution?? Or am I wasting my time with this and it is just pointless considering it as an option. EG - what I had in mind was:
3/. Ideal Solution for both SEO and usability??
New York
Las Vegas Thanks for you help in advance.0
