Where is the best place to add links on my site?
-
If I'd like to put links to other sites in my site, is it better to have a page named "Our Helpful Links" etc. instead of just adding them to the bottom of an existing page like I've seen on some sites? I'm asking because I'm wanting to make Google as happy as possible and still add them. Just in case it helps to look at the site yourself to give advise its; http://www.allstatetransmission.net
If you see anything else there that I should work on feel free to be hard on it, I value any criticism. Thanks, Jeff

I think if you do this you do have to keep the visitor in mind. First of all you have to appreciate that you're potentially creating leaks by creating these links. People will follow these leaks and not return.
That said, if you can link to good supporting content that is going to help the visitor achevie their goals then I can see that it's going to help make their experience better.
Sometimes it's better to have supporting information from a trusted third party to add authority to your content. As Robert said, make sure it's a good reputable source.
Robert, do you no-follow any of these links?

If you want to do this, for a purpose other than getting links from the sites you are linking to (reciprocal links), and you want them to have some measure of SEO relevance, you would put them from a portion of the content where you can link to a really relevant authority. For you, under services you have air conditioner repair/recharge. In that you mention Freon. You could link Freon to the Wikipedia article on same or to DuPont. You could also link to other refrigerants that have replaced Freon. In this way, your content is more scholarly or deep which helps in some peoples opinions. (I like to do this with content). Make sure it is a good source and make sure it has readability factored in.

Only 2 Inbound Links which are the Redirect 301 Links
Hello Everyone, We're having a serious Problem with the ranking of our website so we started testing the website in different Tools. Almost all of the tools say our website works great and in comparision to our competitors we win in almost every test – but we rank behind them. The only thing that makes me wonder is the fact that our website has only 2 Inbound links (Open Site Explorer) when the link source is set to only internal. And the only links shown are 2 links that come from the old http (we're using https) and redirect 301 to our https. No other links – in other tools we have around 80 internal links to our rmain https-webadress. Does anyone have an idea where that comes from? I'm afraid this might be our issue in ranking behind of lots of our competitors. Lokking forward to your ideas and suggestions.

Conflict in reported link data
I have a competitor in a campaign - the campaign report shows 181 linked domains BUT - the site explorer report shows only 15 linked domains. Which is correct? And if the site explorer is correct - how do we fix the campaign report? Current on-page best practices
Given all the recent talk about over optimization, when was the last time SEOMoz updated the on-page report card tool? Rand wrote an excellent piece on Perfect On-Page Optimization (which is great, and thanks) in summer 2009. Is that still best practice 3 years later (and post-Penguin/Panda)? If not, has the SEOMoz on-page report card tool been updated to reflect current thinking for on-page best-practices? I know the higher level concept is "write for humans, not for bots" but if you can do both (and not create an unreadable seo-frankenpage) then why not? Does getting an "A" grade wreak of over optimization now? Should I use the key phrase at the start of the title, h1, and strong (or bold) elements on a page? Should have an image with file name and alt text equal to (or containing at the start) the key phrase?

4XX links in SEOmoz
My campaign is showing me that I have 7 4XX errors. Is there anyway to see where these pages are linked from in order to remove the links?

HTTPS site in Open Site Explorer
I'm looking at a site for which the https URL currently ranks in Google. Using a header checker on the http URL I see that it is being 302 redirected to the https version (I have no control or input on this site). In OSE there's no option to specify an https URL as the http part is pre-populated and uneditable. My question is: does OSE treat the https and http version as the same URL? I'm guessing so as the http URL has a lot of domain authority despite not being the "default" URL.

Any tools for scraping blogroll URLs from sites?
This question is entirely in the whitehat realm... Let's say you've encountered a great blog - with a strong blogroll of 40 sites. The 40-site blogroll is interesting to you for any number of reasons, from link building targets to simply subscribing in your feedreader. Right now, it's tedious to extract the URLs from the site. There are some "save all links" tools, but they are also messy. Are there any good tools that will a) allow you to grab the blogroll (only) of any site into a list of URLs (yeah, ok, it might not be perfect since some sites call it "sites I like" etc.) b) same, but export as OPML so you can subscribe. Thanks! Scott

In OpenSiteExplorer - how do I find out which in bound links were lost?
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/www.homefinder.com/a!links The # of inbound root domains is ~3,100 and has remained relatively flat for a while yet we've been acquiring 1000's of new root domains that link to us. That said, we want to get some clarity on why the count has remained flat. It would be helpful if we could see which domains have stopped linking to us from one OSE index to the next. Is it really the case that we're losing links as fast as we're gaining them or is something else going on?
