SEOMoz SERP Overlay Vs. Opensite Explorer
-
This may be a simple answer, but when I search for a term and see a website on the SERP, the SEOMoz tool bar shows link data beneath the link. For this site in particular, it shows 300+ links for the root domain and for the page, it shows 8 links. When I put that website in opensite explorer, it shows the same data for the "Page" stats (8 links from 3 root domains), but nowhere can I find where the 315 links from 4 domains comes from. So my questions is why do those links show in the SERP overlay, but not in OSE?

I appreciate the response Cyrus. That's exactly what I was looking for. It looks like the discrepancy comes from internal link count, which I hadn't considered. Thanks!

OSE defaults to page-specific metrics, so you have to a little digging to get to the domain level metrics. There are a couple of ways (or more) to get there.
Hit the "Compare Link Metrics" tab. Here you can compare metrics at the Page, Subdomain and Root Domain Level. If you scroll towards the bottom, you should be able to find those root domain metrics that reference those 315 links from 4 domains.
To get a more granular view of these links, you can use the various filter functions on each page.
For example, on the Inbound links tab, you can use the dropdowns to select "all links" from "only external" to "pages on this root domain". By using various sorting options you'll arrive at different numbers, depending on what you are looking for. You can apply similar filters to the other tabs, as well as use the advanced report section to create custom reports.
Let me know if this makes sense. I hope it helps! Best of luck with your SEO!

.com vs. .us for the same company in the US?
How does google react when there is a .com and a .us in the same geographic area as with the United States? Wouldn't google prefer the .com over the.us? Even with different content on the site, I would think google would choose one over the other. Would you have to use a 301 redirect or would just geotargeting do it? I'm not interested in using both just to use them, there is discussion between a US corporation and it's US region.

Stupid question: why SEOMOz has become MOZ?
According to their On-Page Report Card the URL should include the main keyword i.e. SEO in their case, so why do they get an F grade If I check their main page www.moz.com for the keyword SEO? Thanks for your comments!

What SeoMoz tool am I thinking of?
A few months ago I found a tool on Moz that did keyword link research. It is not keyword analysis either. It took a word and turned it into links such as dir:cabinet. I can't find it or remember or it. Does anyone else know? (I know this description sucks, sorry about that)

Top 10 SERP Competition PA
I really like the Keyword Difficulty Tool. I'm looking to get into some affiliate marketing and I'm trying to assess a good niche site to create. I have a couple questions about assessing the results of this tool: 1. When looking to compete for top 10 SERPs are Page Authority & Domain Authority closely related? because a page could have a 1 PA and an 80 DA. 2. What individual PA ranking is considered to be surpass-able? below 40? 30? 3. What difficulty percent would you consider worth competing for? or a waste of time? I guess I'm looking for some breaking points here. Thanks!

No Local Directory links in Open Site Explorer?
Hi there, I just signed up for seomoz pro today and have been playing around in OSE looking at a number of local business websites that I manage SEO for. For all of them, I have put an endless amount of effort ensuring they have good quality, accurate business listings in all the local directories like yelp, yellowpages, hotfrog, tripadvisor, etc. For most of them, I did this months or even up to a year ago. However, I don't see a single link reported in OSE that is a result of my efforts here. Does OSE not report links from local business directories, or should I be concerned that I'm somehow not optimizing properly, or are these types of links of such little value that they don't get picked up, something else? Thanks for the help!
