How can I Improve My Site Page Rank?
-
How can I improve my site page rank? We were a three now a two as of today. How can I get it back to three at least or more?
-
Hi Timothy,
What you're looking at is the Toolbar Page Rank for an individual URL on your site. That's a number that's updated 2-4 times a year, and is only a semi-accurate representation of the internal ranking that Google keeps.
Like Steve says, you want to focus on if your traffic, rankings, conversions, etc. have changed.

I do not have data to prove it, but it should a positive "brand" signal for google. and that would be smart

Even searching for your website through Google instead is a trick for improving PR instead of typing the entire URL in the browser.
That is flat out "wrong".

Hi Timothy, I would like to say first that regular SEO is needed to keep the pagerank of the site stable. And even if it does change then there is no need to get worried because you can get back on the track very fast. Get some good backlinks, try for guest blog posting on other established websites, try to get your website's link on do follow blogs and also make use of the web 2.0 properties. These activities are capable of changing the site's rank faster than the other means.Get more useful content on your website and then publicize those contents further through newsletters and press releases.Even searching for your website through Google instead is a trick for improving PR instead of typing the entire URL in the browser.

PageRank is about one thing and one thing only - Links. Period.that said, PR is one part of a much larger ranking algorithm that places your site in it's spot in the SERPs. Since you are watching your Toolbar PR (which is only really useful to people that sell links to people that think PR is everything there is to ranking) you are probably watching your rankings and your traffic. I'd wager that neither of those has moved at all.
You can read all about the original PageRank formula here - http://infolab.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html I think that everyone that does SEO - especially if you are selling it as a service, should be required to read and understand that whitepaper before accepting a single penny from a client.
Something else, PageRank is named for Larry Page, not web pages.
-
Page rank that you see in toolbar does not represent actual google "pr" and does not affect your ranking.
Get some good links! Especially from trusted high pr websites and wait 4-6 month until next pr update.

Accidentally generated navigation links that point to American site from Australian site.
Somehow we ended up getting hundreds-of-thousands of links coming from our .au (Australia site) to our .com (America site). We believe that something happened during a change that turned a handful of our example.com.au navigational and footer links into back links pointing to example.com and sub-domains of the American version. We are currently fixing this, but we are wondering if this could potentially be problematic in terms of a penguin penalty due to an unnatural linking campaign or back link scheme. Could this error create major problems for us in the near future if we have corrected the issue? Your thoughts are welcome! Thanks!

Submitting pages to google to expidite them finding links to my site
Is it a good practice to submit a page linking to my site to expedite google finding the link or is it better to wait for the google spider to find it? Thanks, Ron!

1 million links can harm your site?
I have a client that bought a link for his site on a non related site with the anchor text for main KW. That site brought over 1 million links to my client's site. Now what should i do? Should i let the link there? Or should i remove it? The age of the link is more than 1 year, and the link is placed in top menu, under the header.

Make a new page or more links to existing page for 2nd keyword?
We have a page optimized for 'blue widgets'. We rank in organic spot #3 or 4 for that (moves around from week to week). Fairly happy with that. We have another derivative term 'blue widgets small' (example, but it's same format: <original phrase="">+ <single word="">) where we currently rank #6 organic in Google when people search on the 3 word phrase.</single></original> We'd like to rank higher than #6 for the 3 word phrase. Should we: (1) Build a bunch of links with anchor text equal to the 3 word phrase and point to the existing page (which is optimized on-page for the first 2 of the 3 words) or (2) Make a new page optimized for the 3 word phrase and then start building links to it with anchor text equal to the 3 words (and non-cannibalizing variants of the 3 words)? The 2 word phrase is pretty competitive and it has taken us months to get that page to be #3 or 4 organic for that phrase. The 3 word phrase is much less competitive and we don't think it would take that long to make a dedicated page rank higher than #6 for the 3 words. Suggestions? Thanks.

Competitor ranking through SPAM
We have a competitor called SwitchWise who has done a whole heap of social bookmarking and article marketing, using a deceptive link with anchor text reading "i select electricity" which has got them ranking #2 in Australia for the term iselect (a big comparison company here in Aus). The articles are low value, the link is deceptive and it is generally bad for the consumer. I could copy their tactics for my client, but I'm concerned about the links eventually being devalued and the company placed in the sin bin. What is the best course of action as I really don't want to let them get away with this, either we need to be up there, or alternative we need to dislodge them. p.s I know this is not a great keyword, but it's more about stakeholder management in terms of what my client sees and how they interpret what we are doing relative to their competitors.
