A few questions about link building?
-
1. Is it worth gaining more then 1 link on a website when link building, for example if I did a guest post on a blog, is it worth doing another guest post on the same blog linking to the same website?
So 2 guest posts on 2 blogs, or 4 guest posts on 4 blogs?
2. When building links through guest blogging, you have two options, a link in the byline and a link in the content. Will a link in the content have more benefit then in the byline as its surrounded by relevant content?
3. Does having a link higher up the page have more benefit then one lower down?

Cheers Phil,
Nice reply and very helpful. I've taken this on board regarding my guest blogging activity.
Cheers again.

Hey Ross,
I will try and offer some advice point by point:
1. If it's a good blog and the content gets regularly indexed, then it can absolutely be worth doing another guest post to get more links. In these instances, often it's a good idea to link to other pages on your site and to vary the anchor text across the board. While you will always want to ensure part of your link building efforts go towards getting a variety of links from different domains, having 4-5 nice links across the domain will invariably be better than getting just one. Definitely work to maintain any guest blogging relationships you have - those are hard to come by! I'm afraid it doesn't work link a "one site, one vote" system.
2. It depends on the blog, the content and the context - but it ultimately wont make a huge difference either way. Rather than focussing on the position of the link in terms of placement within the code - think about choosing the placement of the link from an audience perspective. Where would the user want to see a link to my website? If your guest post happens to focus around the specific service your company offers, by all means put in some relevant links within the flow of the page copy - ensuring the words around the link are somewhat keyword focussed. If your guest post content is less related to your business, then just put a couple of links in the author box profile, within a sentence explaining what your site does. This sentence will provide some relevancy. I normally aim to get one branded link to the home page and one anchor text link to a deep page for any guest post content.
3. No, not necessarily. Back a few years ago, this was a common assumption, but the value of a link is not worked out on a higher/lower scale. Footer links and sidebar links are generally thought to be less valuable than good contextual links, but the exact positioning of the links makes little difference. The exception to this, however, is when a page is massive and contains dozens of links within a great deal of text. In these instances, its generally preferable to be first rather than last on the list - but those sorts of links are typically not the kind you have control over anyway.
Hope that's helpful!
Thanks,
Phil.

1. One post per blog. Just like people, one site can only vote once for another site. Conditions apply.
2. Yes. go for the in content link as Google usually strips out all surrounding content such as the side bar because its irrelevant.
3. Yes. First fold is more expensive for advertising for a reason.
Tip: Try not to worry so much about the "where" and "how" many questions. Focus instead on building the best content for a specific audience that you can.

Link Building Question
Hi Community, I am currently doing some link building for a client. I have created a case study in the form of an article based around the client on our own website & linked to one of their service subpages so a user can see what kind of work they do. I am also currently trying to rank the exact same service sub page for 'KEYWORD A'. I have used 'KEYWORD A' in the title of the article (/KEYWORD-A-TEXT-TEXT) and built a link (not exact match anchor text but contains 'KEYWORD A') within the article pointing to the service subpage. Our blog post now out-ranks the service subpage by around 5 pages, my question is: 1. How long does Google take to acknowledge that the client's service subpage is more resourceful for KEYWORD A? Any other hints / tips / advice is appreciated! Thank you

How much should a link building program cost?
Hi All, I am relatively new to the world of SEO but it is vital to our business that we improve in this area. I believe our site architecture is good although we have a new site coming in the next few weeks which is effectively a re-skinning of the existing one that makes the user experience more relevant. What I would like to know is how much a link building program shoudl cost from an SEO provider and how they quantify what they charge - is there some kind of indicative cost per link or is it just "give us some money and we will do our best?" We have started writing daily articles on our news site and our natural listings are already pretty good. What I am looking to achieve is top three status for the London area (where we work) accross a broad range of keywords. I know this is what everyone wants but we are already front page and top 3 for many keywords and the back link building would appear to be where we are weaker compared to some of our competitors. Thanks James www.morganpryce.co.uk

Footer Back Links Question "Site by built by"
Hi all I design and develop websites for clients within the UK. With each website I build, I always add a link to the footer of the website which links back to my website. I have always used the link anchor text "Site By Jump" but then decided to try to use the link anchor text to our benefit by changing the links across all of our portfolio of sites to be: "Graphic Design by Jump"
Link Building | | yousayjump
or
"Web Design by Jump" In the hope that this helped us rank better for those keyword phrases. Now something occurred to me the day. Most of the websites I build have no relevance to the content on our website. For example, I could build a website for Baby Food and add a backlink to our homepage which doesn't even mention the words "baby food". In some cases, the websites can have thousands of pages, each with this footer link appearing at the bottom of each page. My question is, could these backlinks potentially be seen as black hat or spam to a search engine? I.e. thousands of backlinks from websites that have no relevance in terms of content all linking back to my homepage? Thank you for reading and any advice would be greatly appreciated.0 -

Good link building companies
I'm wondering if anyone has had good experiences with any of the link building companies out there. I'm really looking to hear about those companies who go beyond the mundane forum links, blog commenting, bulk directory submission, article directories etc. It's all been done to death. I've used webuildpages.com, they are pricey, but are good at getting high quailty links.

Supplementary outsourced link building
Can anyone recommend an outsourced link building service they have used with success in addition to their own higher effort link building? (I'm not talking about 1,000 automated directory link submission services.) Thanks.
