Ontolo vs Raven SEO Tools
-
Ontolo referred me to Raven in one of their videos and ended up losing by business as a link building partner.
What are your experiences with these tools-either, one, both?
-
Thanks for the discussion. I have been outsourcing data gathering and assigning it to a sub-user in Raven Tools. The user identifies relevance from a list I have gathered using Raven Tools by visiting their site- also applies to free directories and assigns links back to me when data is gathered so I can approach prospects via social media and send very personalized emails.
It feels like a very comprehensive service atm.I like its feature that provides a list of 'multiple citations' of sites that link to competitors. Offers a lot of data without having to do a lot of data manipulation- saving time.
I just wasn't getting enough highly relevant link prospects from Ontolo because I probably wasn't using it properly.

This is just my opinion, but you cannot really compare Ontolo and Raventools as they are very differently target oriented. Ontolo is a great tool for link building only, while Raventools is an online marketing campaign tool, as it has also on site Seo, content and social features. Said that, if you are looking for something general, which has also a quite good link prospecting tool, than Raventools is for you; if you are looking for a link building tool on steroids, then you should go for Ontolo (which just added some new features just today free for subscribers). Other very good tool is the Link Prospector Tool by Citation Labs.

I love Raven, but like MisterG, I don't use it as a link building tool - mostly because we don't currently offer link building services. However, as MisterG said, it's an awesome hub for managing clients. Your research, analysis and reporting can all be done from one location. It also integrates with social media networks and email campaign tools. I've also their support staff is super nice and always willing to help.
We're hoping to start offering link building later this year, and when we start, I absolute plan on using Raven for link building management.
I've never used Ontolo, so I can't offer much insight there. Hope this helps!

I'm a member of raven tools and, maybe it's just me, I dont find it that useful for link builiding. What I do like about it though is the ability to manage all my seo clients and my own websites from one place. It's easy to view the analtyics for a lot of websites quickly, the ranking reports are great and my clients love the the automated monthly reports it sends out, all branded in their logo etc. I personally think raven is a great tool to manage the reporting and analtyic side of my work.

Does redirected traffic still contribute to SEO?
My company recently rebranded with a new website (and comparatively lower authority). We've built a bunch of backlinks for our old website, which now redirect to the new one, and I was wondering if these still contribute to SEO? Is there a difference in the SEO effect of a direct link versus a redirected one?

HTTS vs HTTPS Backlinks
So I am going to change my entire site from HTTP to HTTPS, but SEMrush shows 21 backlinks on HTTP and 0 on HTTPS. How can I make sure I don't lose them after the switch?

Free Link Prospecting Tool
Hi All, I am seeking a truly free, not just free trial, but 100% free link prospecting tool beyond using search modifiers on Google. I am constantly trying to find new sites to do outreach to based on a set of relevant keywords in specific geographies and the process is becoming cumbersome. I really appreciate any tools or advice on how to scale finding quality sites that are relevant for my keywords.

Tool based websites after Panda and Penguin
I have several sites that I classify as "tool" based sites. These type of sites includes anagram solvers for word games, ip address lookups and other various based tools. I like to specialize in these kind of sites because frankly I am not a blogger and hate to write. Before Panda I was doing fairly well, I had many users coming to my sites everyday. The Panda update "tips" that I read all over including on google sites seems to always refer to articles and how to deal with those. The only problem is that I am not an article based site. Yes I have content that describes my tools, but we are talking 1 to at most 2 paragraphs per page. I know Panda effected my ratings because I lost ranking with some big keywords. Since then I have been able to gain some ground, but I am having a hard time trying to figure out what exactly google wants from a site like me. The main path I am getting from Panda is concentrating on the users, and what will make their experience better. I focus on that whenever I make a change. I figure the easier I make it for them, the happier they are going to be. I am wondering what you guys think about some things I can look into creating or focusing on to enhance my site. I use social media heavily (FB, tweets, posterous, blog, RSS Feed) already, but is there something else I can look at that might help me that I am not seeing. I seem to be running out of ideas. Maybe add more content to my pages? Check link structure (its pretty basic as it is) add more article based blog posts? Just want some ideas, I will send my URL to anyone who wants to take a look and see what I may be missing. C
