Buying new domains to help with SEO
-
Hi,
Does buying new keyword related domains and 301 redirect them to my site have any seo benefit?
-
You could. But make sure that the pages in there have some sort of "in-context" relevance to your pages as well. This would be better than a blind redirect. For example: abc.com/apples should be redirected to yoursite.com/fruits. No thumb rule here, just trying to make it effective for the old site.
-
What about domains that once had a life?
For example lets say a competitor with 5,000 external links decided to end and you got their domain, could you redirect it to your site and pick up the benefit of those 5,000 links?
-
Exactly, Robert is spot-on there. Buying new domains (with no prior history) will have literally zero SEO benefit.
The only reasons to do so are for future plans to host a site on them and/or brand/trademark protection through owning such domains.

cheers thanks I just needed some clarity on this topic
-
None whatsoever.
I am assuming you are buying a domain name XYZ.com and not an active ongoing site with pages that would be 301'd to your urls. A 301 says content that was originally here has moved to there...permanently. So, if there was no content and no links, there would be no benefit.

A long domain name included on the count of characters bad for SEO as well?
Re: Are long URLs bad for SEO? Does a long domain name included on the count of characters bad for SEO as well? Here is an example : "https://kesslerfoundation.org/press-release/kessler-team-tests-regenerative-approach-preventing-osteoarthritis-after-knee-injury". This over 35 characters, however, does it begin after or before the domain name?

What to do about this subdomain for SEO?
This is a bit of an unusual structure and I'm having difficulty explaining the question so pardon my being a 'noob', haha. The website I'm working on has some content under Forums that is hosted on another domain. The main website is https://yournorthside.org.au/ and if you select under the main Nav > Forums > Lived Experience it will take you to https://yournorthside.saneforums.org/t5/Lived-Experience-Forum/ct-p/lived-experience-forum. So it's as if it's a subdomain. (notice even the appearance of the main menu changes, weird) Apparently, saneforums.org has a requirement for that content to be on that subdomain. So therefore it's not part of my sitemap and now crawled or indexed. My question is is this structure okay? What are the implications for SEO? Should I be looking to implement some type of no follow link or something? Or is it actually beneficial in terms of all their content gives us 'link juice'? Can you link me to any resources / articles that give further insight?

Images on Website for SEO
Good Morning, We have a magento website with hundreds of different products that have slight size variations. The image for each of these products looks the same (the only difference between the products is some of the dimensions) .... Would you recommend using the same image for each of these products and just use a generic file name that describes the overall product or would you give each product its own image with it's specific product name as the file name? Should I use 1 image for 500 different sku's or should i rename the file the name of each individual sku and load an individual image? The end user will not know the difference since all of the images will appear identical, simply asking from an SEO perspective. Thanks

Pagination Help
Hi Moz Community, I've recently started helping a new site with their overall health and I have some pagination issues. It's an ecommerce site and they currently don't have any pagination in place except for these tags: Prev 1 2 3 ... 66 Next I understand what these are doing (leading visitors to the previous, next or last page, but do these do anything for search crawlers or does the site need to have an option of:

Buying multiple domains: misspells & .net, org, etc. & 301's
Hi, an SEO guy told me to buy up domains like ours X.org, net, biz, etc. & mispellings. this could cost over $100/year. Is is worth it for SEO or is it just covering our @ss if competitors want to get stupid and buy those? I don't forsee competitors doing that. What do you suggest? Does Google actually give us points for those AND if we bought them are we supposed to redirect all of them to our site? Should I be doing this for our SEO clients? Thanks.
