What is the best method to solve duplicate page content?
-
The issue I am having is an overwhelmingly large number of pages on cafecartel.com show that they have duplicate page content.
But when I check the errors on SEOmoz it shows that the duplicate content is from www.cafecartel.com not cafecartel.com.
So first of all, does this mean that there are two sites? and is this a problem I can fix easily? (i.e. redirecting the URL and deleting the extra pages)
Is this going to make all other SEO useless due to the fact that it shows that nearly every page has duplicate page content?
Or am I just completely reading the data wrong?

the wordpress just has a setting under general settings for www or non www.

I had the htaccess redirect, but the ccsnews is a wordpress blog. When I had that re-direct going, the blog complained of too many re-directs. I've seen this happen before even on seomoz.
So I'm using a joomla redirect plug in. I'm thinking the wordpress has a redirect plug in also, just haven't installed it yet.

The internal crawl report from SEOmoz is based on your internal links, not external inbound links. So if there are any errors, it is in your site.
At a quick glance, I see that you have setup the 301 to www, but if you click into the blog (news), then you aren't at the www anymore. http://cafecartel.com/ccsnews/ - (if wordpress, then it's just a simple settings change.)
Run a crawl test on it (http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/crawl-test) and keep on plugging away and fixing every issue until there are no more.
And make sure you use rel=canonical tags. This will help out with the duplicate content as well. http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/canonicalization

Thank you Brent, and Mark...
So taking your advice this is what happened...
At the tail end of last week, we implemented a 301 redirect to www.cafecartel.com, we adjusted the .htaccess file to implement it and it worked as far as always landing on www.cafecartel.com....BUT the errors didn't adjust after the crawl.
I fear that the mere existence of these links to cafecartel.com and www.cafecartel.com may need to be manually redirected for each page.
The pages that are showing the highest errors are the blog article pages, quote request pages, and the free download pages. These same pages have links going between pages on www.cafecartel.com and other blog sites, which we did as an organic SEO tactic. Is this possibly something that is causing errors?
Thank you all for your advice!

You need to setup your site Canonicalization so that you don't have the duplicates. SEOmoz has a great article here: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/canonicalization
Since you are hosted on an Apache server, you will need to modify your .htaccess file in your root directory to take care of these.
Make sure you also setup the www or non www preference in GWT. (Google Webmaster Tools)

You are reading the correct data. You should be redirecting the pages to cafecartel.com/.... this will eliminate the duplicate content issues. You also might be able to see the issue with the sitemap....if the website was converted from another website then the pages might still be attached.
Another option, less SEO favorable, but will eliminate the duplicate content, is figuring out where the pages are and then installing robot no follows....
This will help your SEO not hurt it. You are being penalized for the duplicate content.
Hope this helps....

Drupal 8 tags and categories cause duplicate content shown in MOZ
Hi all, There is something difficult to trace that is causing duplicate content that is related to categories and tags i.e. https://example.com/contact Associated Pages https://example.com/tags/business https://example.com/taxonomy/term/41 example 2 https://example.com/category/example-category-1 Associated Pages https://example.com/category/occupiers-liability example 3 https://example.com/tags/test https://example.com/tags/test-2 Above two pages display same content (maybe due to similar posts feature) My question here is: Is this caused by Drupal website misconfiguration (or one of its modules) since website uses similar posts feature or it's something else. Duplicate content for example.com/index.php issue has been solved by redirects. Should something similar be done in case of tags / categories? Any discussion / suggestions on that matter are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Help with best seo strategy
Hello all, I am a little bit confused about the "content suggestion'' feature in Moz. If I understood well, this feature suggests Anchor texts we can use in other page to link to the page we are trying to Optimize. So far, I've been using page keyword as Anchor Text in other articles. For example, I have a page about the best places to visit in Morocco, where the keyword is 'places to visit in Morocco'. I am using this same keyword as Anchor text in other pages to link to that page. While Moz suggests '10 best places' as Anchor text. What does it mean ? Is '10 best places' anchor text better ? Or should I use both ? Thanks in advance for your enlightenment.

SEO best practices and online store?
Hey guys, I'm just starting a company and had a few questions regarding how we should structure our online store. The store is currently selling skins for consoles, phones - and we have wall decals too, as well as fridge wraps. I was wondering if anyone had advice on the best structure of things? Should I, for instance, have a single "Xbox One Wrap" product page with multiple variations as an option? Or should I have individual product pages for each different style? I feel like putting all the weight on a single Xbox One Wrap page is great, but I also feel like having more content out there for each product probably isn't terrible either? Suggestions? The site is www.FapWrap.com so you can check it out - it's original photos we are taking of adult stars, but eventually will be for "Sexy" people in general. Heh.

Google+ Local Business Page not appearing
I have a local verified google + listing and recently just went to update it nicely. even though it has been around for months, however Google just can't seem to index it, does anybody know the reason why? I have tried " hard-searching" for it and it is not even indexed! However if i find hard enough, it will appear in google maps, and also my domain has been around for months, if not a year however under Moz Open Site explorer it indicates it is a super new domain and even alexa is not recognizing any data even though it has traffic. The only thing i have done is i have shifted servers two months ago. Does that translate to a new site? I hope not...

Changing the way SEOmoz Detects Duplicate Content
Hey everyone, I wanted to highlight today's blog post in case you missed it. In short, we're using a different algorithm to detect duplicate pages. http://moz.com/blog/visualizing-duplicate-web-pages If you see a change in your crawl results and you haven't done anything, this is probably why. Here's more information taken directly from the post: 1. Fewer duplicate page errors: a general decrease in the number of reported duplicate page errors. However, it bears pointing out that: **We may still miss some near-duplicates. **Like the current heuristic, only a subset of the near-duplicate pages is reported. **Completely identical pages will still be reported. **Two pages that are completely identical will have the same simhash value, and thus a difference of zero as measured by the simhash heuristic. So, all completely identical pages will still be reported. 2. Speed, speed, speed: The simhash heuristic detects duplicates and near-duplicates approximately 30 times faster than the legacy fingerprints code. This means that soon, no crawl will spend more than a day working its way through post-crawl processing, which will facilitate significantly faster delivery of results for large crawls.

Hi, I recently deleted some pages from my website and believe that there will be external inbound links pointing to these pages. I would like to find them and put redirects in place - can anybody tell me how to use SEOMOZ to find where external links are poiting to moved/deleted pages Thanks

Link from home page
I see an abundance of websites that don't link out at all, and there is no data available to seoMoz for the sites, some like http:// regal - diving dot com (trying not to get moderated AGAIN Innocent need to show which link and its a competitor kind of) are not linking to anyone else just internal links. How come they dont show info to SEOMOZ Should I link out from home page, is this detrimental does ANY single link from home page show google that I am not a PROPER web business. thanks
