If i rank for BRAND-NAME.com for my salon, will it hurt my rankings if i make a BRANDNAMEbeautyshop.co.uk for my shop?
-
I'm looking into starting eCommerce retail shop, off the back of my salon's success. Yet I'm split into using a cart software on my excising domain or a multi-channel shopping software on a new .co.uk linked via the menu of my salon domain. Ideally i could proceed and use both domains for the one company just to clarify: my salon domain is uk targeted and is "www.Brand-Name.com" (with - seperating brand words) my proposed shop domain is uk targeted "www.BrandNameBeautyShop.com" Any ideas if it would hurt my campaign to do such a thing?

Choose the short and being remembered name, one keyword to you won't give particular advantages.
Over time I observe that neither anchors in links, not keywords in url already practically don't play a special role.
-
Agreed. Where possible its always better to expand an existing domain with higher authority than it is to create a new website.

Hi Daniel,
As long as there are no conflicts with the two content management systems you're using (the new eCommerce CMS and the current CMS), I think it would be more effective to install the ecommerce cart software in a subfolder of your root domain rather than a completely new domain. Basically the result would be "www.Brand-Name.com/shop/" but would act as a separate website.
Doing it this way would decrease the time and resources needed to build authority to a completely new domain, and would centralize your brand rather than splitting it across two domains. You'd also have some inherit SEO benefits, as the domain authority you've already established would help increase page rankings for the store installed in the "shop" directory. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about clarifying which URL is for what across your social platforms and advertising mediums, and I think it would be an easier transition for both you and your customers in general.
Hope this helps and good luck!
Anthony

Houston Company Needs Help (Will Our SEO Work Be Destroyed While Site is Down?, Can Anything be Done?)
I'm a Moz member, mostly just lurk, and love the Moz community. I work at a non profit company that does benchmarking data and helps school districts improve process in education. Our building flooded and our site is currently offline, is there anything we can do to stop/lesson any SEO page rank drop between now and when we are back up? We have worked very hard to get these rankings. I know it is minor compared to all tragedy in Houston, but we have worked hard to get these SEO gains (YEAH MOZ!) and I'd hate to lose them because of Harvey. Any suggestions, assistance appreciated! Ralph

"&" in search for site:domain.com
Hi, a few days ago we talked to a seo agency. They told us something about the "site:" search, that we hadn't heard before.
SERP Trends | | Sandra_h
As they told us, a search for "site:domain.com/&" would give you the number of relevant pages that Google indexed for your domain. We tested this search with some domains. Lots of the results showed up to 25% less indexed pages, than the search for site:domain.com/ Has anyone heard of this before, or is it just a sales gimmick?0 -
Avvo.com: Are links in the contribution area bad for SEO?
Hello all and thank you for taking the time to read my question. I am struggling with a client of mine. I have done just about everything that I can think of that has worked on other sites. Banging my head up against the wall here. He is VERY active in the contribution area of Avvo.com (answering questions and making guides). His site use to rank very well but now it can't be found at all. One of the things that caught my attention is the way he would leave his citation in his answers for AVVO. He would leave a direct link to his website. Since his rankings have dropped I have advised him to stop. Do you think Google is treating them as spam? His link profile is small >1000 links but half of them are from AVVO I was wondering if anyone else any experience with this? Thanks in advance

How to count number of app's installations for users who install app from https://play.google.com?
The task is to find out which banner on my site provides more installations of the game. The banners' urls link directly (refferal source in the url is specified) to the game page on https://play.google.com. Google Analytics and Google Play are connected but I've faced the problem that Google Analytics counts only visitors who install app via Google Play app so visitors from the banners to play.google.com aren't counted at all. That's the question, is there any way to count visitors to the app page on play.google.com and to count the number of installations by these visitors ?

Rank Tracking Software
I am looking for a software to track all keywords my website is ranking for. I am aware that SEMrush can accomplish this, but as I am paying for mOz already, I was looking for something less expensive. mOz has a feature to track keywords that drive traffic to your website by linking it to your google analytics, but I want to find more than that...I want EVERYTHING. Does anyone know/use this kind of software *Please comment with specific programs/software/tools in your response. I need real suggestions. I'm not looking for the Matt Cutts "cookie cutter" answer (like what I did there?) like "you should search your analytics for words you're already ranking for". Thanks!

Will google believe my website has plagiarised if I publish news that is published on a newswire?
I use newswires to publish press releases or articles for clients. Almost all are published on one site such as PRWeb and picked up by newspapers/publishers. Each of these pieces reference the source as PRWeb (for example). Each press release is then added to the company website. Do I run the risk of search engines believing this to be plagiarised if not referenced to the 'original source' being PR Web? Thanks
