How is this site doing this?
-
It shows a splash / promotion page yet you check the cache and it's the real homepage, they are doing this so they don't lose rankings but how are they redirecting users to that but Google is caching the real homepage?
is it friendly?
thanks!!

It's embedded CSS, correct.
Thanks!

View the source code when on the splash page and you will see that their entire site is there, this is what a search bot is seeing. View in browser and this triggers a splash screen overlay - really, the full website is there, you just can't see it.
Perfectly safe, perfectly legit.

Hi ,
I think that the web server checks the user agent of the requesting client and if its a web crawler like the google bot - shows the normal home page. Its its a normal browser user agent , like firefox - it will show the splash screen.
In theory this should be ok for SEO as google bot only sees the normal home page. But in practice I think its an accident waiting to happen. If google change the user agent string of their crawler bots - then they could be shown the splash screen. Perhaps there are other methods the search engines use to check things like this.

How About Moving My Site to Another Domain?
My website has been hit by a Google Penguin penalty. At this point, it seems very few websites have recovered from this penalty even after it was lifted. That said, I'm still wondering if I should start a new website or my current one to another domain. When I started my website, I registered the domain name http://www.thewebhostinghero.com A few years later, I bought webhostinghero.com as it became available. Actually, webhostinghero.com redirects traffic to thewebhostinghero.com at the registrar level. There are barely any links pointing to webhostinghero.com. TheWebHostingHero.com is quite a big website with over 1400 pages and some very useful tools (http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/free-tools) that took me so long to develop, I just can't believe I'd have to throw it all out the window. So that said, do you think it would be possible to move all or some of the content from thewebhostinghero.com to webhostinghero.com? Would that make sense? Would webhostinghero.com come out as a copy of thewebhostinghero.com since the domain is similar, etc.? Of course, moving the content from thewebhostinghero.com to webhostinghero.com would have to be done without any 301/302 redirects to avoid passing bad link juice. At the same time, I don't want to end up with duplicate content on both domains.

Does Site Structure Affect Google
Hi - I'm pretty new at this. We’re running an e-commerce affiliate site at http://www.mydomain.com. So we don’t take payments but customer gets passed through to third party sites when they select to buy a product. We have a blog at http://www.mydomain.com/news. I think Google is treating these 2 sites as as separate sites for PR. For this reason we're thinking about moving this to http://news.mydomain.com. Anyone have any experience in this?

Googlebot cannot access your site
"At the end of July I received a message in my Google webmaster tools saying "Googlebot can't access your site" We checked our robots.txt file and removed a line break in it, and then I had Google Fetch the file again. I have not received any more messages since then. When we created the website I wrote all of the content and optimized each page for about 1 local keyword. A few weeks after I checked my keywords and did have a few on the first page of google. Since then almost all of them have completely disappeared. Because we had not link building effort I would not expect to still be on the first page, but I should definitely be seeing them before the 5th or even 10th page of Google. The address is http://www.tile-pompanobeach.com I'm not sure if these horrible results have something to do with the message from Google or something else. The problem is this client now wants to sign a contract with us for SEO and I really have no Idea what happened and if I will be able to figure it out. The main keyword for my home page is tile pompano beach and I aslo was using Pompano Beach Tile store for the About page which was previously on the first page of Google. Does anyone have some input?

404 Error from site - is this normal?
I have been trying to clean up any 404 errors. We keep getting the following: URL /include/vdimgck.php referring domain http://www.856d.c@m/plus/feedback.php rendered domain unclickable by adding the "@" since I do not know if it is safe. I just turned off the trackbacks and pings in the blog since I saw it was producing duplicate content and from what I read it is not worth keeping those with Wordpress. is vdimgck.php anything some here instantly recognizes ? It tops all our 404 errors, seems like a lot of requests. Thanks!

Manipulative Site Spam - Ideas to Fix?
Hey, We have been asked to fix up a website which has been poorly optimised with manipulative techniques. The company is a local service based business, and the old SEO company created thousands of 'pages' with a list of locations & services. **Examples - ** domain.com.au/suburb1/service1 domain.com.au/suburb1/service2 etc domain.com.au/suburb2/service1 domain.com.au/suburb2/service2 These pages dont actually exists and appear to 301 redirect back to domain.com.au/service1 (this is a real page with real content). The problem is that all of the above mentioned non-existent pages are actually all indexed. Problem: How do I remove a page from the index that doesnt actually exist but has been 301d?
