White, Black, Grey, B.S. Hat?

I was using Open Site Explorer to check out some competition and I noticed that there were a good amount of links coming from a no-name blog Seen Here. Obviously there are 50+ mentions of Express Auto Repair across a few blog posts.
I've seen this tactic used before, but does it really do anything for the client, or is this just old school trickery?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks James. It's probably a newbie question, but I appreciate the answer.
Oddly, the link was working earlier.

Hi,
Using Autoblogs or low quality blogs to spam links is not the best quality link building tactic. The links are also all coming off a sub domain not a main site too.
This is not really going to do a whole lot for the client.
The specific website you have used also is not currently working.

How can I get my wesbite on Dmoz if it isn't accepting? Am I S.O.L.?
Each of the categories I would certainly fall under aren't accepting sites at this time because of it isn't showing the icon you need next to it to submit a website. I have been checking this for months, but it isn't changing. Is there another way in or am I just out of luck here? See step 3: http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html

Root Domain Link for Affiliate's Link
It seems my affiliate link: http://www.hrmsplugins.com?partners=21 is not being considered as a "root domain" backlink when this link is used on their website. Is there a reason for this?

Hunting the White Whales?
I'm not a SEO, just a small business owner with the will to succeed. When it comes to the Big Links from real sites, (Technorati, Tech Crunch, Slash Dot, ect.) where do you start? How do you begin the process of getting a good article on a great site?

Hi I wanted to clarify whether what I am describing is a link wheel and is this black hat ?
There is a SEO company that is creating a page on each of their clients' sites called 'pages of interest' or 'links' they then list all their other clients websites - using a variety of their keyword phrases as anchor text as well as a brief description. But then in the footer of these sites the SEO Company are also putting a link back to their own website using a variety of keywords such as SEO, search engine optimisation, link building etc and linking to their home page. At the moment the SEO company are ranking really well for their search terms. I thought that this was really quite 'dodgy' as the only two things that link all the clients are -(1) that they are all clients of this one firm and (2) all the websites come from the same country - no theme, or related industry at all. The clients that I have spoken to were not even aware that the company had put the link back to their site in the footer which in itself is pretty sneaky

Blogroll links vs. in author's byline
So, I have the following dilemma. I have certain amount on my budget and I'm thinking where to invest it better. Would you recommend obtaining blogroll links or focus on links that put in author's byline (for instance when you write a guest post). Could you also explain why you think so? 🙂 Thanks beforehand.

Which is better - A) links from multiple IP addresses, or B) Links with more associated social signals?
If you had to choose: A) 100 links contained in posts on 100 PR2* blogs, all on separate IP addresses, where none of the posts had associated social signals, or B) 100 links contained in posts within a single PR2* blog (single IP address), where each of the posts had 20 associated social signals, Which would you choose to increase your SERP performance? *I chose PR2 so that PageRank would not be a factor in the decision.

What's your favourite SEO directory?
We're having a bit of a debate in the office today about SEO directories. We all seem to have our favourites here - Octopedia, AbiLogic and JoeAnt to name a few that have been mentioned. Just wondering what everyone else's favourite directories for SEO are? Which pass the best link juice? Which offer the best value for money? Would love to know everyone's thoughts...

My client's first press release...what to do?
My client is in the clothing, apparel tshirt industry geared toward a specific music icon. They have a few competitors, my spider senses tell me I will be able to get them great SERP standing, and place them in a very competitive position. Their company has been around for a while but has never written a press release. I had them craft a PR on the subject of cotton prices and how it has affected their business. A local paper will pick this up no prob. Where is the best place to go? It is not like it is breaking news, I dont want duplicate content, and I need an experts advice. I will provide more details if needed. Thank Mozzers!
