Facebook "like" discrepancy
-
This is a pretty stupid question sorry, but hopefully it is easy to resolve:
Both OSE and Woorank list our site as having 17 Facebook likes.
The Facebook icon on the page shows 92 likes.
Our Facebook Page shows 560 likes.
Where is the 17 number coming from??
our page is: http://www.GoldMaxUSA.com/
Thanks,
Jason

Thank you for the info!

Thanks for the answers guys. I really appreciate it.
I understand now and yah, that seems like an unnecessarily confusing way to go about it for Facebook.

Brent's answer was partially correct, however he was incorrect regarding Open Site Explorer's social data. OSE's social data for Facebook, Google+, and Tweets is always up to date, and not subject to the same update schedule as other OSE data.
The discrepancies work like this:
- 17 (which is actually 19 now) is the number of people that have liked the URL http://www.goldmaxusa.com/
- 94 is the number of people that have liked, shared, or commented on the URL http://www.goldmaxusa.com/
You can see this difference broken down at http://sharedcount.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.goldmaxusa.com%2F
- 560 is the number of people that have liked the URL http://www.facebook.com/goldmaxusa
The difference is the URL being liked. Your facebook page is not associated with your homepage in regards to likes. If you're thinking to yourself, "boy that's a stupid way to do it," you are correct. It's a terrible way to do it. But that's how Facebook set up the opengraph to work.
-
The 17 is based on the url and OSE is only updated about every 4 weeks so you will see differences in numbers. OSE is suppose to update in a few days, so check the numbers again and see if they are closer.
-
This is because they are only updated every month I believe. OSE is not updated regularly but I believe it is monthly.
If you got all those likes within the past month after 5/30 I believe that is the reason.

What metrics does the fb:admins Facebook Open Graph tag actually provide?
I'm considering implementing the "fb:admins" Open Graph tag on our website to provide our social media team with additional analytics. We already have the other standard OG tags in place. My question is twofold: Can you use a Facebook Page ID rather than an individual user's account ID? What data, specifically, will this tag provide? Our site already has an official Facebook Page and I'm curious whether this tag would make any NEW information available, outside of what we can already get within the Page Insights. I would love to see a screencap if anyone has it implemented! Facebook outlines the tag usage here, but it's not exceedingly helpful: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/insights/ Thanks guys!

Should I have Facebook Likes on my webpage point to a Facebook page or just the domain?
We have a Like button on our site which currently Like's our domain. I'm wondering if it would be better if it Liked a Facebook page for our company. The benefit of liking the domain as I can see it is that when it appears on timelines a click will take you directly to our site.

Facebooking and Liking - Whis is best SEO practice for Rankings
Hi everyone! , i am a rookie with SEO. I have a very specific question for which i would love to hear your opinions on this. I have a facebook fan page about my company. We try to post quality stuff in regard to the industry we are in. However, we are social people, and i have seen improvements whenever we post more "social" topics such as TGIF, Photos, DIY themes. My question is (Actually two questions) : Is there a direct correlation or metric between rankings and "likes", the size of your facebook community ? If so, which has more power or effect on rankings. Facebook Likes generated from your website , or General Likes of posts within your existing community. Hope to hear from ya! Every advice is good advice. Regards Jesus D Aceromart

Anyone use the new "Social Settings" in Google Analytics?
In the past couple of months, Google rolled out a tab called "Social Settings" in the Admin area (see image). It's an optional setting, and Google is rather vague about what it does. GA already tracks social in "Traffic Sources," so what is the advantage of using Social Settings? If you've used these new settings, what have your experiences been? Were the settings helpful? Did they completely screw up your analytics? Thanks, Benjamin Ri5bY Ri5bY.jpg

What Kind of Damage Comes From Switching "Official" Hashtag?
Last year we had a problem with other conferences / companies using a hashtag we had started using for our conference. We stuck with a very similar hashtag for this year's event and are, of course, having the same problem. The event we're using it for isn't until October and already has a decent amount of buzz. How much damage would we be causing by switching the "official" hashtag? And how do we get people to start using the new one and abandoning the old? Does anyone have a case study on this or a similar experience with this issue?

Facebook Comments | Massive Overall Increase in Rankings! Anybody else experience this?
Last week I implemented Facebook Comments and Addthis to my site. Rankings went up for nearly all my keywords. I have people from Africa, Europe and USA asking questions. Every time someone comments, it is shared on their Facebook Wall. I want to know if anybody has experienced this besides me? Here's my site if you want to see it in action.

What's more important? Facebook fans, or likes?
Until now, I've been focusing on getting Facebook likes for my site, and amassed quite a lot. However it felt like I was missing an opportunity by not connecting directly to my audience. So I created a Facebook page which my site visitors can like. But this means having to promote two different things: a "facebook like" for my site, and a "facebook like" for my facebook page, which seems silly. So, I was wondering if: there is a way to combine the likes of my site to the likes of my FB page? Or a way for a visitor to like both through a single click? what's more important to Google: FB-likes to your site, or to your FB-page? Thank you!
