Does 301 redirect cause penalty
-
Good Morning,
I am considering doing a 301 (permanent) re-direct of roughly 100 domains, split between my 3 main e-commerce sites.
Would taking an action like this put any of the 100 domains or any of the 3 recipient domains at risk of violating G's guidelines?
Thanks...

Diane, the OP is talking about 301 redirects of entire domains, and I believe you've been 301 redirecting missing URLs from all one domain, correct?
-
i am no expert but it may cause problems through my own experience. I have used 301 redirects in my htaccess file because i have lost thousands of links through a major problem that was caused through my hosting company. I have seen my page rank go down from page rank 4 to page rank 2 and today i have noticed i do not have a page rank.
I have posted a question on here to find out more about it, but as mentioned it may cause a problem.

Dear Prime85,
Could you say a little more about the situation? Do these domains currently redirect using a 302? Are you linking from a group of these domains to one site? Are they all on the same IP?
I agree with Alan that the intent is what really matters. Registering .xxx versions of your brand name, or common typos of your CDN is different than building c blocks for spamming purposes.
I would start with a small group of these sites working from lowest DA/PA to the highest, testing as you go. Again it depends on your intent and the state of these domains. Are they "real" sites or just domains snagged to redirect and redirect only?
Take it slow. test your way to an answer.
Thanks,
Jon T.

Yes in can be, depends on why you are doing so. Check out this video

301 Redirect Review Nodes
I have a client who rents out vacation beach rentals. They currently have thousands of homes under management. Each property has its own internal reviewing platform. Reviews are not really intended to be viewed on their own, as in a stand alone page with just the review on it. The problem is that Drupal makes just about every type of node viewable on its own dedicated URL. I was just thinking about taking request to view stand alone reviews and 301’ing them to their respective property page, the context in which they are intended to be viewed. The website has about 2500 review nodes currently crawlable via Drupal that sit on their own URLs. Would there be a material impact to 301 them to their respective property page when any attempt to view them on their own is made to the site?

260k 301 redirects
Hello, I just found that some of the urls on my site have both ugly characters and some other things I'd like to fix (such as ---- into a single - ) After some local tests i've seen that If i leave some imperfections there will be 48k different urls on the other hand if the renaming procedure is strict i'll have around 260k out of 2.3M urls to be renamed. If I'm going to do this I'll create new canonicals meta tag and redirect old urls with 301 headers to the new location. The content will not change. My big doubt is SEO wise, I know that I'll have better urls, but aren't those too much redirects on a single day? what would you do if you wish to have shipshape urls and know some of these are crap? thanks

Do I need a 301 redirect on htaccess if Apache is already configured to serve?
Apache is set up to serve both www and non-www versions the same content. Do I still need to put a 301 redirect in the htaccess file?

301 Redirect From Dynamic Page To Static
I want to 301 redirect all "id" and "type" numbers from my page dynamic.php page (I have thousands of IDs and thousands of Types) all to a single URL. So for example the following.... www.mysite.com/dynamic.php?id=1&type=5 www.mysite.com/dynamic.php?id=2&type=5 www.mysite.com/dynamic.php?id=3&type=5 www.mysite.com/dynamic.php?id=1&type=6 www.mysite.com/dynamic.php?id=2&type=6 www.mysite.com/dynamic.php?id=3&type=6 ...would all be sent to: www.mysite.com/page.html How can this be done without doing a redirect for each ID/Type?

301 redirect: Old pages to new
Hi, We have recently made some changes to our agency site. Looking in webmaster tools we have identified a number of old pages with existing link juice. Not a great deal mostly 32/100 PA. There are a mixture of URLs "meet the team" and people pages etc. The anchor text on the majority of pages is our brand name. Could we now 301 all these pages to one page, or is this a no no in the eyes of Google? Any help greatly appreciated. Best Regards Sean

Should I 301 redirect my country specific sites, or use them as linking root domains?
I have loveelectronics.co.uk, but I also own 10 other country code specific domains. I am short on links (i'm actually still setting up the website) and wondered that until i have country specific content, should I 301 redirect these websites to the homepage of my main site, or could I use them as links which would mean I have more linking root domains? Sorry if this is a beginner question, but it would be good to know so I can sort this.
