I'm ranking Position 7,8,11,12,13,14 &15 but would rather one page top three - are they competing?
-
For the search phrase "office design birmingham" in the uk. I have mutiple pages ranking in position 7,8,11,12,13,14 & 15!
This is all very well but are they somehow competing? Am i better off doing something different to get one or two into the top 3 rather than 7 in the top 15?!
Many thanks for your opinion and advice.

Use the most relevant page for each keyword.
If you want to target any keyword make a page or tweak a page that is its closest match (that is if the page is not being ranked for anything else.
people make the mistake these days of trying to rank too many keywords for a single page.
Think about it the pages you create should be designed and posted around the user, each page Title, Description, H1 should be different, from the 4 pages i looked at on your site you are targeting the same keyword on 3 of the 4 different pages your kind of self cannibalising those keywords, Google is a little unsure what is the page it should be ranking for.
Plus the Birmingham page has very little text, and its out ranking the home page
add around 200 words to that page targeting that keyword and you will see a big improvement
Good Luck

I'm not sure if this sort of duplication is going to be a long term effect. I think this is some sort of temporary problem arising from the Penguin update. I raised it as an odd result in another post (see link) and I think (maybe that should be hope rather than think) it will get resolved over time:
http://www.seomoz.org/q/anyone-else-seeing-increased-duplication-of-domains-since-penguin
I don't think this sort of duplication makes for a good set of results.

Mmm just searched again and I'm and they're ranking 6,7 18,19,20 - may be doing a google dance and changed recently....
When you say big difference - does that mean the pages with similar titles keywords are actually dragging down the top ranked pages? So for example tweaking 7 18 19 and 20 away from 6 will actually help 6 rank at say 2 or 3? Or are those pages helping the top pages to "float"?!
To the same extent I want the first page of "office design london" to rank well...but could the archive page 2,3,4 etc...should that be hidden from search for better SEO?
Many thanks!

I Just searched that term here in the UK and i don't see any sites with that many pages in the UK, so you may be looking at custom searches, clear your browsing history and try again,
If the site that i did see come up around 4 times is you then, the reason for this is most of the pages have pretty much the same titles and descriptions with just very few words different
Rank Each page different than means content , titles and descriptions i am sure then you will see a big difference

MOZ identifies duplicate titles - one has' www' in the title
MOZ has identified duplicate titles - one has' www' in the title. - we have a few pieces of content where the same thing is happening. Not sure how this has happened. Which page will rank higher, my main article or the sub article linking from it?
Hi all, Can you help me figure this one out? I'm currently creating content for my website and I very badly want to know which page will rank higher in Google, my main article that has some keywords that are and links to my sub-article, or my sub-article which is optimized for those keywords? I will demonstrate with an example since I'm not sure my question is clear: If I have an article that talks about different kinds of candy and it links to a sub-article that will elaborate on specific candies like a mint candy ,which page will rank for mint candies. Until today I believed that if my sub-article which is linked from my main-article will rank for mint candies since it gets the support from my main article.Lately when experimenting this I found my thoughts to be wrong. Can anyone help me with this one?Any insights? Thanks, Leebi

Does anyone know of a tool where you can get all of the keyword that any given landing page is ranking for?
I'd like to find out what landing pages are ranking for which keywords, but I haven't been able to find a tool that does it. I was hoping there would be something where I could submit the url and get a list of every keyword it is ranking for. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Q&A Page Titles
Hello All! I am currently updating page titles and metadata descriptions for a websites Q&A section and have run in to a problem while updating page titles. Since it is the Q&A section of the website, all of the page titles are around 100 characters and some are up to 200 characters long. Here is an example: Page Title: My child is working below grade level in math. Do I have to purchase the curriculum from the grade below as well? The problem is that this is obviously too long for a SERP to display however I know it is best practice to have matching titles on both the title tag and page title. My question is what hurts SEO value more: the title tag and title of the page not matching or having a very long title displayed on the SERP?

I've just manually edited all the page titles and meta descriptions on a site, when will this show in Google results?
I've just manually edited all of the page titles, meta descriptions and optimised the copy on a client's site. I submitted this for a new crawl on Google via Webmaster Tools but when I do a Google search the old versions are still showing. Will it still take a few weeks for the new versions to show even though Google has crawled it via Webmaster?

Troubleshooting Drop in Rank - could it be one of these?:
At nlpca(dot)com, we've had a drop in rank of like 13 slots for our main term "NLP". Could this be caused by?: Adding keywords to title and meta tags that are not completely relevant to page. For example, "degree programs" on this page http://www.nlpca.com/DCweb/nlp-salt-lake-city-and-bay-area The word "degree" and "programs" do not show up on that page, but "program" does. Our courses are 'certification programs' but maybe 'degree programs' is not close enough. Adding keywords to title that do not show up in page. The same keyword "degree programs" is a good example. Another example is the keyword "learn about NLP" on this page: http://www.nlpca.com/DCweb/learn-about-nlp-techniques Targeting 2 different locations (California and Utah) Having our title 2 characters too big on the home page (we used to) And lastly, Do you think our ranking drop is reversible if it's on-site SEO? Thanks!

Zero ranking after a month of ON Page Tweeks.
I've been tweaking a Wordpress little by little over the last 3 to 4 weeks but I'm making no progress in the rankings for my keywords. All keywords are still reporting >50 in the SEOMOZ Campaign. Here's the clients pet keyword: "Sailing in Scotland" www.capriceyachtcharter.co.uk The site is indexed and shows IF I search for the company name "Caprice Yacht Charter" What am I missing? Thanks in advance Steve

Home page ranking dropped below internal pages
The index page for a site I manage has dropped significantly - internal pages rank above it. It's a new site, 2 months old but was ranking at 1st. Any suggestions as to how I can debug this?
