Is my home page over optimized for this key word?
-
I've been working for a couple of months not to try and get my site optimized for the key word "kayak fishing". I haven't done any black hat linking or anything and my site had disappeared passed page 76 on Google United States... Did I over optimize things? I get an A for the onpage reports from SEOMOZ.
site: www.yakangler.com
Keyword: Kayak Fishing

Thanks for everyone's input!

Hey I am agree with you Jarno.
I think you should build links using keywords for 60% links and 40% links without using keywords. Hope it will work well.
Thanks

I agree with Jarno. I would only like to add 2 points: 1. Do not over do any one kind of links. Mix them up...over a period of time. Think natural links. 2. Do not do the "exact anchor text". Do variants of it, combined with site name, brand name etc. Slow and steady is what I would recommend and again as Jarno recommended, get active on social media unless you already are.

Yeah it would be much easier if "kayak fishing" was in my domain name...

Mark,
Google still using anchor text to determine what subject your website is about. If all of the inbound links state something other then your primary keyword then apparently people don't think that that's the subject of your website (according to Google).
Over optimizing is overdoiing it. If you are linkbuilding you can easily add some keyword for inbound links, as long as you don't overdo it. So don't make 100.000 links to your site with keyword and only 5 without. If you can find a good percentage in here somewhere you should be just fine.
Hope this helps
Kind Regards
Jarno

Thought that with the recent algo changes you don't want key words in your anchor text?
-
Mark,
the way i see it you did not over optimize your page for the suggested keyword.
I think the problem my be elsewhere. When i look at the code and the page i really don't think that you over optimized your pages.
Look at this link from opensiteexplorer:
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.yakangler.com
Look at the link anchor column. Your keyword doesn't even appear here. Kayak fishing doesn't even appear in the first 50 highest ranking inbound links. If i were you i would focus on getting some more links to my site using the keyword you want to rank for. If you can have about 25-50% inbound links containing your keyword you would still be fine (when on the topic of overoptimizing) but i quess you would be in the top 20 of Google then. So start building on your links and shares (facebook and twitter) with your site mentioned in combination with your keyword.
hope this helps
Kind Regards
Jarno

Page ranked then disappeared
Recently there have been a a couple of pages form my website that ranked well, in top 5 for a couple of days then they disappear suddenly, they are not at all seen in google search results no matter how narrow I search for them. I checked my search console, there seems to be no issues with the page, but when I check google analytics, I do not get any data from that page since the day it disappeared, and it does not even show up on the 'active pages' section no matter I keep the url open in multiple computers.

Our protected pages 302 redirect to a login page if not a member. Is that a problem for SEO?
We have a membership site that has links out in our unprotected pages. If a non-member clicks on these links it sends a 302 redirect to the login / join page. Is this an issue for SEO? Thanks!

Can you noindex a page, but still index an image on that page?
If a blog is centered around visual images, and we have specific pages with high quality content that we plan to index and drive our traffic, but we have many pages with our images...what is the best way to go about getting these images indexed? We want to noindex all the pages with just images because they are thin content... Can you noindex, follow a page, but still index the images on that page? Please explain how to go about this concept.....

Testimonial pages
Is it better to have one long testimonial page on your site, or break it down into several smaller pages with testimonials? First time I've posted on the forum. But I'm excited! Ron

Should i Change On Page Optimization ?
Hi, PC monitoring and computer monitoring software are our targeted keywords. Around 5 weeks ago, We created a page for pc monitoring software (home/pc-monitoring-software) and did some bookmarking and guest posts targeting PC monitoring software keyword. Now we are in Top 15 on Google for PC monitoring software keyword . Initially we were thinking to change content of around 2 year old home page to adjust computer monitoring software keyword and do SEO for this keyword. But few days ago, we noticed that our pc-monitoring-software page is already ranking in early fourties for computer monitoring software keyword as well. May be Google is giving advatage of being synonym of PC . Now we are thinking that we should optimize the PC monitoring software page for both computer and PC software keywords like adding "computer monitoring software" in addition to existing "pc monitoring software" in title and similalrly do other on page related work for Computer Mnitoring Software. We are also thinking of doing 301 redirect of existing pc-monitoring-software page to new computer-monitoring-software page which will be optimized both for PC and Computer. Please suggest me if it will help to get good ranking for both PC and Computer Monitoring software if we make above mentioned changes or we should not change the existing pc-monitoring-software page and shall stick to earlier plan of changing the home page to adjust for computer monitoring software.? I'm new to SEO, so want to make wise decision with your help instead of learning with failures. Thanks, shahzad

Product category paging
Hi, My product categories have 2-3 pages each. I have paging implemented with rel=next and rel=prev. from some reason Google GWT now reports the pages as having duplicate titles and description. Should I be worried? Should I set a different title like "blue category - page x" ? Thanx, Asaf
