Why doe SEOmoz include my categories and subcategories when counting on page links?
-
Hi everyone,
I am new to SEOMOZ, but it looks like really good program.
I ran a report last week, and SEOMOZ says that out of 10001 pages, I hve a total of 9995 warnings. When I take a look at the breakdown, it says I have too many on page links. I removed the links from the bottom of each page, but my on page links are still over 100. Does this mean that I will have to get rid of categories and sub-categories in the navigation bar?
Thanks,
Don

Hi Marcus,
After reading further, I see what you mean. I am in the process of having my programmer remove the sub-categories and sub-sub-categories from he Navigation bar. That will put me well under 100 on page links.
Much appreciated.

Hi Don
That's the thing. If these other sites have lots of internal links or popularity then they can likely get away with it, as can your site if it is very popular. If not, then spreading links like this is a bad idea.
It's a general question without a link so very hard to give anything other than a general answer.
Fire over a link and will try to give you some more info.

Thanks Marcus.
I read the article. It was very informative. But I ran several other successful sites out there that I know of through SEOMOZ and they have the same amount of warnings "too many on page links" as I have and it does not seem to be affecting them.
Thanks again.

Hey Don,
The tool shows these as links as <drum roll="">they are links. </drum>
There is a really good overview of this here:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-many-links-is-too-many
The 100 links is not set in stone but there are some good reasons to consider a different architecture (as discussed in that post by the ever large and in charge Dr Pete.
Hope this helps!
Marcus

Question Re Cornerestone Page And Anchor Text For Internal/External Links
Suppose I create a cornerstone page with the targeted keyword "Dog Collars". I write a dozen articles on various dog collars and point a link from each article to my cornerstone page. Should the anchor text for the links from each of those articles to the cornerstone page be "Dog Collars" or should they vary, but still be relevant to "Dog Collars" for best SEO? Should half of them be "Dog Collars" and the other half various? Also, if I have 12 articles and all of the anchor text is already "Dog Collars", should I go back and change them so that they all don't say the same thing? If hope my question makes sense ... thanks in advance. I will give thumbs up for helpful responses and suggestions 😉

Navigation Links Causing Too Many Links Help?
Hello, I have read some SEOMOZ search results for this, but am still concerned that Google may see 4,500 Too Many Link warnings as a problem. This is caused primarily due to our header navigation, which is not intended to be keyword stuffing, but to provide all avenues for our breadth of content. site: crazymikesapps.com. Most answers seem to advise if there is no keyword stuffing at hand don't worry about it. Any help appreciated. thank you Mike

SEOmoz tells me that I have too many links, however most of them are comments...
Is this affecting the overall ranking of the page? http://www.smileclinic.sk/zubne-implantaty/ (164) http://www.smileclinic.sk/zubne-korunky/ (179) If so how can I disallow them? We use Wordpress with the Joost SEO plugin, but I don't see a disallow option there for comments...

Internal links
Hi, I am working on a project with very few really important pages - its now about 20 pages and this number will not increase to more than 30 by the end of the year. Today the majority of these Pages is 2 clicks away from the Homepage for navigational reasons. Now I am wondering: 1. If I should set links from the Homepage directly to these Pages to pass more juice?

Duplicate pages
Hi, I am using a CMS that generates dynamic urls that according to the SeoMoz tool will be indexed as duplicate pages. The pages in questions are forms, blog-posts etc. that are not crucial to achieve ranking for. I do worry though about the consequences of having 20 (non-duplicate)pages with static urls and about 100 pages that are duplicates with dynamic urls. What consequences will this have for the speed that the robots crawl the site and could there be negative effects on ranking for the entire domain?

Too Many On-Page Links
I recently took on a website design client and ran his website through a battery of tests using Pro to take a look at the crawl errors. One that seems to stump me is the error "Too many On-Page links" concerning his blog. (http://franksdesigns.com/wp/blog) This is the first time I've seen this error and am rather confused. The report says there are 104 links on this page. However, I'm having trouble grasping this concept or finding the 104 links. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!
