Linking to a pdf

Hi All
I have a pdf that people can download from my site, what I want to know is that when people link to the pdf does the pdf share link power to pages linked to from within the pdf (like a html page would) or is the link power being waisted going to the pdf and should I somehow get the links to a normal page?
The pdf is a free downloadable resource to people in the party planning industry and so gets linked to quite a bit by sites telling their readers to get the information we provide. Thanks for your thoughts Sean

You are getting no link juice if they click on the PDF but you are getting some link juice if they link to the page......
It would make more sense, for SEO value, if you had the contents of the PDF on a page and then on that page you had the option to link to the PDF. Then people would be linking to the page that would allow you to get the link juice and the SEO value from the content. More value for your efforts.......more SEO value from the additional content that Google cant index in your PDF.

Hi there,
I think if you were to create a page with a DOWNLOAD link/button to the pdf file (put some info about the file and the benefits of why someone should download it, maybe also put social media share buttons), and then have vistiors/users link to that page or share that page via social media instead of the file you would get a lot more benefits.

I am getting links on people's wordpress blogs but are not showing up on the just discovered tool. Is it true that wordpress links are no-follow links that do give off any link-juice?

How do websites get links here...
Does anyone know how people get into the "Top Links on This Topic" section of the Huffington Post? I can see that the "Around the Web" section is curated by someone, in this case "Jeff Muskus" but there is no indication how the Top Links on This Topic appear on a page. The only thing I noticed is that the original article appearing in HP is almost a year older than any of the referenced links. Obtaining External Links
What is the best way to obtain External Links for a website? I have seen using the Open Site Explorer that my url is ahead of most of the competitors in all areas except this one. What is the best method of generating these links, outside of emailing 20K people and asking for a back link? Any suggstions?

How might Google differentiate between an artificial link exchange and partners linking to each other?
Hi, All! Artificial link exchanges (contacting a vaguely connected site and requesting to exchange links to increase your PR) is, as far as I know, considered an outdated, not-so-smart technique, as Google might devalue them. Yet, for real business partners to exchange links seems to be an entirely accepted and encouraged technique. While that would be intuitive to a human who's viewing the pages. how might Google detect when two sites that link to each other are linking because they are trusted business associates (valuable) as opposed to when they are doing a link exchange (devalued)? Internal Linking - 100 plus links
Hi Everyone, I have a question of how the on-page links are being counted. Say you have a page with a warning of having too many on page links (100+). How are all of these links counted? Let's say there are only 5 links on that page. Do the links on each of those pages count too and so on and so forth? I just want to make sure I have wrapped my head around this correctly. Thanks!

How to improve (ASAP) the linking root domain, the followed linking root domains and the linking C-Blocks? Linkbuilding (or whatever) techniques.
I have a small site (.com) like any website in my sector. 30-90 pages. I have no crawls errors. Everythings is fine, just I need to improve my linking root domain, the followed linking root domain and the linking C-Blocks. Example: my competitors have 300 (one of them have 1300) of total links. I have 30. Anyone know some good strategies? techniques? tips? I just dont want to be in a farm directory, I want free links. I'm already running two strategies but it works so slowly. I want something faster at this moment. Also, any recommendation will be thankful.

If I write a PR release on a site such as PRweb with anchor-text links that is picked up and published by other news sites, do the engines consider this duplicate content or additional, beneficial links?
I recently wrote a news release on PRweb that was picked up identically by 8 other news websites, with the same anchor-text links as the original. Is the reproduction of duplicate content and links across different websites like this to the benefit or detriment of SEO and ranking power?
