Page Speed - What tool to use?
-
I am looking for a good tool to measure page speed. Any tools out there that you recommend?
-
Site 24x7 is quite good - http://www.site24x7.com/tools.html
Its more of an all round website monitor - but one of the built in aspects is response time.
-
First thing I would look at is Cache time. I see that one be different on a lot of the website speed tests.

Nice tool. Interesting results. I used pingdom and the site scored 98/100. Under the developers.google the site scored 55/100.
Thanks for the link. Now to find why the discrepancy.
-
That is a good one. The irony is that I use pingdom to monitor my sites. LOL. Thanks of the info.

I've found PageSpeed Insights (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights) to be very helpful. It offers suggestions on how to improve the performance of your site, based on the potential for improvement. By benchmarking your site against others in your industry (or top performers in other industries), you can compare not only the overall PageSpeed Score, but you can identify how the suggestions differ.
This enables you to identify possible competitive advantages/disadvantages. For instance, if you receive a high priority suggestion that your competitors have already implemented, you may be at a disadvantage; the severity of which dependent on the resources required to implement the suggestion.

tools.pingdom.com/ is one of my favorites!

GA Landing Page Inaccuracies
I had seen a thread on this a while back but no solution posted. There was a link posted to someone else explaining the issue but I got a 404 when clicking. Have a client that does mostly PPC and they are getting their conversion page showing up as landing page from paid many times. This is definitely not a sitelink, etc. The only way you get to this page is if you filled out the form. There are a few other pages showing up as landing pages that don't make sense too. Can this be attributed to someone being "inactive" for 30 minutes and then coming back and performing an action on this page (leaving)? If so, does this double count the conversion if a page visit here is a conversion? Just trying to make sense of the landing page report showing so many instances of our conversion page. Thanks in advance!

Page Performance
Not long ago, I had a couple of peers asking why I was using sessions to evaluate page performance. They said it wasn't a good metric for evaluating a single page because it only looked at how many site visitors began their journey through you site form that page. They were trying to convert me over to pageviews, which they said was a superior metric because it show you every time that page had been loaded and therefore provided better insight. Moz uses sessions on their landing page report. Is this because it's an SEO tool, so all they are concerned with is how individual URLs attract site traffic? Signed, Confused in California

I have a WP site which uses categories to display the same content in several locations. Which items should get a canonical tag to avoid a ding for duplicate content?
So...I have a Knowledge Center and press room that pretty much use the same posts. So...technically the content looks like its on several pages because the post shows up on the Category listing page. Do I add a Canonical tag to each individual post...so that it is the only one that is counted? Also...I have a LONG disclaimer that goes at the bottom of most of the posts. would this count as duplicate content? Is there a way to markup a single paragraph to tell the spiders not to crawl it?

Webmaster tools traffic on one keyword dropped through the floor - ideas?
Hi there, We design and sell our own product range in a narrow niche, and we are also stocked by Amazon and a lot of other big retailers in the UK. During the first two weeks of Dec 2012 the position of one of our main keywords, which was in google SERPs on page 1 (8 or 9), dropped to page 4. The keyword describes the niche we're in. The drop is shown in the webmaster tools traffic report for that keyword. But it's the only one of our keywords where this has happened, and furthermore it hasn't happened for variations of the keyword. And in Adwords our quality score for the keyword is 10 For example say we were making and selling shopping trolleys - our keyword "shopping trolleys" has dropped through the floor, but "shopping trolleys (on) wheels" is just fine. Can anyone shed any light on what's going on here? Losing this one keyword has cost us some good organic traffic. i1uxSlB.png

Google.co.uk (The Web or Pages From UK) Query?
Hi, Google.co.uk is ambiguous at best, it is geo targeted for the UK, however, by default all results incorporate "The Web" meaning outside the UK. If a user wishes to filter to "Pages From UK" then they have to click that specifically. Now my clients regularly ask me whether the traffic they are getting is from Google.co.uk (The Web) or Google.co.uk (Pages from UK) In analytics it combines these two as single source = Google.co.uk without any further breakdown, is there a way to figure this out. If I can split the figures then I can run necessary additional comparisons etc. Regards Ausaf

Subdomains and SEO - Analytics & Webmaster Tools Setup Help
Any advice on the following greatly appreciated: How to get multiple subdomain data into 1 Google Analytics profile? Can we get multiple subdomain data into Google Webmaster Tools (and if so how?) or do we need to set GWT up per subdomain?
