Huge Hit and Bouncing Rankings Since Panda 3.3 Update?
-
Has anyone else seen rankings bouncing all over the place since the end of Feb? A client's site is for the term hcg which I know is controversial but we were in 3rd or 4th for the past couple of months until this update. Now for the term "hcg" the rankings are bouncing from the twenties to over 100 multiple times a day. I check them throughout the day with non personalized search, rank checker, etc to just try and keep updated.
I have never seen rankings bounce around so much after an update and am wondering if this update is somehow effecting these more controversial search terms.
Since The end of Feb our traffic has almost dropped in half due to the drop in just the "hcg" term ranking
We have been cleaning up the site, updating lower quality content, blogging frequently and trying to build better links for the past couple months of working on the site. The problem is there have been a few other previous SEO companies that worked on the site and I don't know how much black hat tactics were used.
Any insight or suggestions on this would be appreciated, we are all scrambling to try and recover from this.

I see quite a bit of flux in the Google.com SERPs that I watch closely. In retail areas I attribute some of it to the expiration of paid links for the Christmas buying season. But, overall there is a lot of flux.
Keep in mind that Google is always running test algos and we could be seeing a lot of them.
Everyone knows that google is experimenting with their Panda updates. Just recently they preached at free hosting to dump spammy sites. I speculate that they are struggling with their arrows coming down on scrapers and quality which are difficult for their algo to separate.

Do old links from my own unrelated subject websites improve or hinder my rankings?
Several years ago I placed links on two of my other websites I own and control one my old company about CCTV installation and the other one is the official website for actor Sir Roger Moore. The links are going to my holiday cottage letting website http://www.endeavourcottage.co.uk/ and at the time I wanted to improve my rankings with these links which are still there. The vast majority of my other inbound links are natural and are on other people's websites with some diversity regarding the anchor text. So my question is the old links on these unrelated subject websites which are also stored on the same web hosting company causing a problem and would it be beneficial to remove them to leave them in place? Also several years ago I set up two other websites at the same hosting company also promoting holiday cottages in the same place thinking I might have more bites of the cherry, but they've produced very little traffic and are not ranked at all well, but they do links to my main letting website, could these because in a problem? My domain authority seems to be equal to some of the companies which are higher placed for the short tail keywords on page 1 of Google and they have less inbound links, although they are usually bigger companies and I know many things which influence rankings. I am trying strategies to improve the rankings, which have dropped to a small degree over recent months.

Freaky keyword ranking
Hello SEO Pros, We have a really strange issue with one of our websites. We have been in the first 10 natural results for the keyword "rendszergazda" with page http://systemfarmer.hu/rendszergazda for years. About 1,5 years ago somebody copied our webpage completely and google penalized us too. Till then we can not get back in the first 30, a week ago we are not listed in the first 1000! No idea what happened. In Moz no issues, webmastertools no issues. Does anyone have any idea where to start? Regards, Laszlo

Meta keywords confusion: include none, 3, 5, 20?
Over the last few months, I have come across a great variety of opinions on the use of meta keywords in the SEO plug ins or tools I fill out for customers. Some people and organizations advise to leave that field empty, others suggest to use maximum 3 keywords, but I have also heard 5 or maximum 20. I am quite confused about this? Does anyone know Google's latest opinion on this? And what about the other search engines Yahoo and Bing?

Do rankings return to previous rank after a site has been un-indexed?
My client has had a site since 1996 (the first one was a www subdomain, his current site has no www). He came to my company for SEO about a year ago, after having a WordPress site that was accidentally set to not be crawled/indexed by search engines. We set the site to be indexed and added a blog. Since then, he has had slow increase in keyword rankings (on page 3 or most globally searched terms) but is still nowhere near page 1 for most of his keywords. He thinks my company has done nothing, while I see the keyword improvements as a sign of success - slow, gradual - but going in the right direction. I don't know if he was ranking well before he had a site that was not set to be indexed - but if he was on page one, would he eventually return there? Or do we have to build everything over again?

Will Google ever begin penalising bad English/grammar in regards to rankings and SEO?
Considering Google seem to be on a great crusade with all their algorithm updates to raise the overall "quality" of content on the Internet, i'm a bit concerned with their seeming lack of action towards penalising sites that contain terrible English. I'm sure you've all noticed this when you attempt to do some proper research via Google and come across an article that "looks" to be what you're after, then you click through and realise it's obviously been either put together in a rush by someone not paying attention or putting much effort in, or been outsourced for cheap labour to another country whose workers aren't (close to being) native speakers. It's getting really old trying to make sense of articles that have completely incorrect grammar, entirely missing words, verb tenses that don't make any sense, randomly over-extravagant adjectives thrown in just as padding, etc. etc. No offense to all those from non-native speaking countries who are attempting to make a few bucks online, but this for me is becoming by far more of an issue in terms of "quality" of information online as opposed to some of the other search issues that are being given higher priority, and it just seems strange that Google have been so blasé about it up to this point - especially given so many of these articles and pages are nothing more than outsourced filler for cheap traffic. I understand it's probably hard to code in something so advanced, but it would go a long way towards making the web a better place in my opinion. Anyone else feeling the same way? Thoughts?

Google Panda 2.5 Update?
On Sunday 18th Sept I noticed a huge drop in our rankings for keywords that we were doing extremely well. Majority of the keyword SERP positions for our main targetted keywords were #1 and #2. These have all drop the bottom part of first page. Other new keywords we were targetting had climbed very well (some hovering just below top 10 and some in top 10 of Google UK SERP. These have all completely dropped off. Although analysing the site thouroughly (both on-page and link profile) it doesnt appear to have any issue significant enough to cause a penalty. From Monday 20th Sept (everybody back to work) the threads here http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=76830633df82fd8e&hl=en&start=5760 and http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4364389.htm seem to be buzzing over unexpected SERP drops and increases. By that I assume Panda 2.5 or at least some form of update taken/taking place? If anybody know of the reent heavy fluctuations which seem to have started in the weeken or have experienced unexpected positions increaes/drops, I would be very interested to hear/read from you. Cheers, Mo Raja

My websites Internal page is not ranking.
Hi, I had "x1", "x2","x3" keywords ranked for my websites internal page that is "www.somesite.com/internal-page.htm" i was fairly doing well for my keywords mostly in top 5, but now the case is from last couple of weeks, my internal page url is gone & replaced with home page. And I don't see internal page anywhere mostly in top 1000, is that penalty to internal page ?If yes how can i troubleshoot this ? I see my other pages in top 20-30 but that specific page is not anywhere. Please let me know. -Sunny.
