Incorrect name on search result
-
Hi,
While auditing the website for a new client that i inherited just noticed that when i search for 'hyundai roswell georgia' on Google the dealership name appearing on Google search result is incorrect. The name of the business is Rick Case Hyundai. However, it appears as Rick Case Honda(see attached screenshot). Any recommendation on how to fix this and why is this happening?
Regards
Neil

Hi Nakul,
NOODP tag was added months ago as we have seen such instances earlier with other clients in the same niche.
-
I second what Brent said. It is your YDIR listing. The domain is 301'd to a sub-folder of your website.
I don't know if it's just me, but I have a strong feeling that this is coming off your ODP listing, but then you have the noodp. How long have you had the NOODP in your meta ?
-
I see you have noodp in the title tags, and as you said it has been there awhile, so I would assume that would have been updated by now. It could just be taking a particularly long time to update.
Another guess is that it may be due to the main site's title at rickcase.com. The title is 145 characters long:
Rick Case Automotive Group | Leading auto dealers for Acura, Audi, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda and Mitsubishi models at Ohio, Georgia and South Florida
It also includes the word Honda. Occasionally Google will rewrite titles based on what they feel is more relevant.
Here is a post on SEOMoz about Google changing long title tags:

Here is also a short post on Webmaster world:

Thanks Brent. The noodp meta was part of the standard setup. I'll add the Noydir to it and wait to see if it helps resolve the issue.
-
Hi Marie,
The meta name for noodp was added months ago as part of our standard setup. However, the problem still remains.
-
They are pulling that information from Dmoz.org. (http://www.dmoz.org/search?q=rick+case+honda)
To fix this you will want to add the meta robots that Marie suggested, but I would also include the Yahoo Directory code as well.
name="robots" content="noodp,noydir">
-
I suspect this is a flaw in the title generating algo they've recently implemented. Honda doesn't appear anywhere in the code, so perhaps Google thinks Hyundai and Honda are synonyms?
My only other explanation would be that the title tag used to say "Honda" and Google hasn't crawled the corrected version yet.
-
It's likely because of this DMOZ listing:
http://www.dmoz.org/search?q=rick+case+honda
Sometimes Google grabs the DMOZ title instead of your page title. To stop that, just insert this code in your head:
(It stands for no open directory project).

How do I authenticate a script with Search Console API to pull data
In regards to this article, https://moz.com/blog/how-to-get-search-console-data-api-python I've gotten all the way to the part where I need to authenticate the script to run. I give access to GSC and the local host code comes up. In the article, it says to grab the portion between = and #, but that doesnt seem to be the case anymore. This is what comes up in the browser http://localhost/?code=4/igAqIfNQFWkpKyK6c0im0Eop9soZiztnftEcorzcr3vOnad6iyhdo3DnDT1-3YFtvoG3BgHko4n1adndpLqjXEE&scope=https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters.readonly When I put portions of it in, it always comes back with an error. Google Search Results Flip-Flop
For a site we manage, Google can’t seem to decide which of two pages to present for a search for “skid steer attachments.” Almost weekly, it flip-flops from the home page to an interior page (which is a shopping cart category page that we have not actually optimized for the phrase.) The site is berlon.com. Have any of you had a similar experience and, if so, how did you address it? I’ve attached a Moz screen shot that shows the changes. mNfmJoY

ECommerce categories in path name or alternative
Our store is in magento and many recommend to turn of category names in product paths as magento creates duplicate pages for the same content when products are in multiple categories. I have a canonical plugin that should fix dup paths. This has not bothered me until I decided to create GA goals for seeing multiple products and realized I dont have an easy filter because the paths dont have categories. I think I can add a suffix to products like /?t=p - If I can do so will that be enough for me to create goals in GA - or am I better off adding back category paths.

Why is an error page showing when searching our website using Google "site:" search function?
When I search our company website using the Google site search function "site:jwsuretybonds.com", a 400 Bad Request page is at the top of the listed pages. I had someone else at our company do the same site search and the 400 Bad Request did not appear. Is there a reason this is happening, and are there any ramifications to it?
