Competitor Traffic
-
Is there any way to know what a competitors traffic is? My website seems to be continuously falling despite attempts to fix and just curious if it's us or an industry issue?
Thanks in advance

Maybe the keywords bringing you traffic aren't what you expected? It seems that you might have some alternate keywords that are helping you out-perform your competitor. Also, keep in mind you are only looking at one month. Watch it for a couple of months to see if things flip flop.
I say this because one site I do SEO for is a very tight niche business, with a lot of competition. One thing I learned from SEMRush and Google Analytics was that the industry term that everyone was (and still is) targeting online, is not what customers tend to call the product. I started going after these alternate terms, and the results are pretty astonishing.
It sounds like perhaps you have a better assortment of effective keywords ranking in the top 20 of Google. But again, it's only one month and it's estimated. That's why I would suggest watching for several months to see if the trend stays the same.

We don't do PPC, tried it before & no ROI
Pretty sure competitor doesn't either - Have yet to see them in that position

William, the SE traffic includes both SEO and PPC. Do you and the competition both do Paid Search ?
-
Wow! That seems to confuse me even more! My site says SE Traffic 42, competitor site SE Traffic 34.
This competitor has kicked me out of top slots within the last two years. They currently take up the top 3 listings on most of our desired keywords. So, this should mean that they rank better than us therefore more traffic than us?

You're welcome William. Cool on the Canada thing. I didn't know SEMRush could do that. SE Traffic is the number of visitors coming to the site from keywords ranking in the top 20 of Google's SERPs (per month). SEMRush updates once a month. You can view when the latest update took place down in the lower right hand corner of the site footer. It looks like their last update was September 3rd. Hope that helps!

Great! Thanks! The semrush seems helpful because I am in Canada and I can switch within Canada & the USA.
Now, I am such a newbie I'm not sure I understand all the info it's giving me: SE Traffic is 34.
What does this 34 represent?

Although it's not real time, you might find SEMRush helpful. There is a free and a paid level. The paid version allows you to see even more about competitors and what their approximate SE traffic is. Also try Quantcast. Again, not 100% accurate, but you should be able to determine if there's an industry trend happening. Hope that helps!

You can do a comparative analysis using tools like www.semrush.com
I hope that helps.

I can see competitors ranking for certain long-tail keywords but cannot find them on web pages. What am I missing?
Hi there. I'm pretty new to SEO and I've been doing a fair bit of training but there is one aspect I have yet to grasp. When I carry out keyword research, I get all these results and I understand the metrics. What I'm not getting is, when a competitor is ranking highly for say "where can I buy fresh turkeys", I assume that that phrase must appear somewhere on the page, but it doesn't. I realise I'm just not thinking about this in the right way. Can anyone offer clarification, please? Kind regards, Bruce

Ahrefs Much Higher Than Competitors But Competitors Doing Significantly More Traffic?
Hey guys, I'm baffled by checking my Ahrefs ratings lately. It looks like our rating just went up considerably... from over 1 million to now around 500k. One of my main competitors, however, has a much lower Ahrefs rank (over 3 million) but he does a considerable more amount of traffic than we do... how is this? My domain rating is higher than his by a lot. Very curious how this works.

Competitor using our product descriptions
Hi, We have a competitor (with a higher DA) using some content from our product pages word for word on a few of their product pages. It's only a couple paragraphs per product page (including the main product description), not the entirety of the content on the page. It also appears they have scraped some content from another authoritative competitor (and even left their brand name mentioned on it!) I've read mixed thoughts on whether plagiarized content will harm the original site, but am concerned since it is an authoritative site. Should I be concerned since it's only parts of our product page? Thank you all!

Competitor Ranks Top Keywords Without Backlinks
One of my competitors is ranking very well for many different competitive keywords (1k+ searches per month). I'm trying to figure out how in the world he is ranking so well. I've signed up for MozPro and looked at his back-links. He has 1 branded site-wide back-link from a decent blog. He also has 1 contextual back-link from a decent blog. Other than these 2 back-links, the rest are garbage links unlikely to even count for anything (he has maybe 12 of these low quality back-links). My website on the other hand has more than 15 back-links from different (high quality) websites and does not rank anywhere near this competitor. This leads me to believe that either MozPro back-link reporting is inadequate or there is foul-play on the part of my competitor. As far as on-page SEO is considered, his website is far inferior. Therefore, I highly doubt this would play a role. What are some reasonable approaches I can take to better understand the cause of this discrepancy. Clearly the back-link reporting has not revealed any answers.

What tools can give reliable competitor traffic data?
Could you give details of reliable tools that can measure and provide competitors' traffic data? Google Adplanner used to provide such information until June of last year, and while it's numbers didn't match Google Analytics data, the numbers were reasonably close. The metrics we are most interested in are visits, page views and unique visitors. We have looked at sites such as Compete -- but feel it is far too inaccurate/ skewed with US data only; also, would prefer to not rely on Alexa traffic stats. Thanks in advance.

Moz Rank Moz Trust and Authority higher than my competitor but still getting outranked
Hi There, I'm new to SeoMoz but ive been using it for the past month and I've been using the tools to try to optimize my site but for some reason even though my metrics are showing that my rank and authority are rising past my competitor they still rank higher in the searches. my website is the site on the far left with the domain authority @27. the competitor that keeps outranking me is the third from the left with a domain authority of 12. If anyone can advise as to why I'm being outranked that would be very helpful. I'm stumped here. Thanks guys! eYtMRr9.png

SEOMoz bar shows competitors ranking higher in SERPS with less Moztrust and Mozrank?
We are targeting the term "wholesale fireworks" we are currently on page two and just completed some on page optimization. I noticed using the Mozbar that the SERP results on the first page show a site with near zero page rank, Moztrust, domain trust, etc.. It is steadily number two in SERPS. Our site is just as strong or stronger on these ratings as anyone on the first page. How is it possible that we are still hanging out on page 2?

Competitor Ranking High has 2 Domains, But Duplicate Website ?
I was using OSE and noticed all the backlinks to one of our competitors is there other domain name, which is the EXACT SAME website. You can enter both url's and they display the same content. They are not useing any canonical tags either. Why are they not penalized for duplicate content? And for using there own website for backlinks ? We try to do everything right, but still cannot beat them. Any thoughts on this?
