Thought I was Hit By Panda? Regained Rankings?
-
Hello,
At the beginning of the week, traffic dropped drastically, I was under the impression that the site was hit by panda. This morning, I am seeing the keywords/pages, right back into position? Does anyone know what this could be? Webmaster had no messages, and was free of errors?
Thank you!

start by using the moz campaign tool. follow the directions, enter your keywords and keyword phrases that you are trying to rank. Then let it crawl your site. Wait for the report, then carefully complete the task one by one. It's is a very time consuming, daunting task that takes hard work. In the end, all you are doing is building a better site for the search engines to crawl and rank you.
Just go step by step. Take the long road, no short cuts. If someone tells you they can fix it in a day- they are full of crap.
Building a online business is harder than running a brick & mortar any day of the week.
start with the basics- read a lot and listen to people that sound reasonable- don't listen to snake oil salesmen....
Email me anytime charris@thegardengates.com- we are a real business doing this all in-house after going down the consultant road( trying to take short cuts) we spend a lot of time on this- 7 days a week.

Morning Chad,
In the meantime should I remove ALL of the dulplicate site wide content, and only leave titles up? Or block these pages? I am confused as to what to do. I do have the option via WYSIWYG editor to insert dynamic tags, but content will be thin. We actually get traffic from these pages, but as you said I want to do this correctly and not have to do it again in the future?
Thank you very much!!!!!

don't put site wide content on every page that looks or feels the same- that's what I would recommend. Why rush and do it wrong or have to redo it. Take your time and tie your content to quality blogs-to social leveraging etc.
I would have your content writer start at top level pages and work down- it will bring the biggest results that last the longest but they will not be fast.
-
What would you recommend for a large ecommerce site with so many pages, that we cannot get content on fast enough? The editor allows us to put in "default" content which is inserted sitewide? We do have tags that switch up content slightly, I just would not want to run into any issues in the near future with an algo update.
Thank you Robert!

You have already answered your question... You need a break
Just kidding, but you can't draw any SEO conclusion in a day or three. You have to look at how long had the page been on page one of SERPs? If it is a newer page you will see much more fluctuation than with an established page. The same is true with lower competition keywords where most pages are low PA/DA.So, if you want stability, my advice is to slowly add relevant content to the page in some way. You can also change the content (within your given framework) or have an area in the content where you talk about that product and link to more info on your site (this "more info" could be an ever added to blog, etc.).
As you get links to the page, show you are fresh, relevant and wanted by searchers, the fluctuation slows to a near halt.
Hope this clarifies.

I think Robert is on point. Our site which is done by the rules- from day to day our rankings and traffic changes. We do a lot of work to make sure this doesn't happen but I think you need to look the www like the ocean. Some days the tide rolls in as planned, other days not so much.
Not sure what you are doing ( meaning selling) but look at sales- who cares about traffic- it's about checks in the bank. I do realize these are tied to traffic but not always.
hope that helps-
Chad

On one specific search it was showing on page #1 (low competition keyword) yesterday I located it on page 10. All of this happened with 2-3 days. I did see the mozcast tool show 80 yesterday.

Without a bit more info there is no answer to exactly what the problem was. Given that you mentioned pages, and the last refresh of Panda was on the 18th and effected very few queries, I would guess that it was not (and given the quick reposition).
I would look at my traffic flow in analytics, etc. to see if there is something I could be missing on. Sometimes, even with the best site there will be a traffic drop for a day that goes unexplained. You did not mention how much the rankings changed, domain, etc. so it is hard to tell what could have been the cause. Glad for you it's back.

Page ranked then disappeared
Recently there have been a a couple of pages form my website that ranked well, in top 5 for a couple of days then they disappear suddenly, they are not at all seen in google search results no matter how narrow I search for them. I checked my search console, there seems to be no issues with the page, but when I check google analytics, I do not get any data from that page since the day it disappeared, and it does not even show up on the 'active pages' section no matter I keep the url open in multiple computers.

Blog not ranking for my name
Hi everyone. I'm new here so apologies if I'm not asking an appropriate question - just let me know! Can anyone help me figure out why my blog (https://www.jamescrowley.net/) isn't ranking at all for my name? I've run it through the standard Moz audit tools and it hasn't picked up any major issues. It ranks fine for my name plus " CTO", but doesn't appear anywhere in the top 50 without that qualifier. I realise there are many other 'James Crowley's to compete with but weirdly even my GitHub profile page appears to rank higher (https://github.com/jamescrowley) I moved the domain a while back (18 months+) and I used to rank highly, but it never seems to have recovered (all the standard redirects are in place, and told Google at the time about the move). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

So weird sudden drop in rankings
Hi All, ok so at the beginning of July we launched our new website, SEVEN weeks later we have dropped completly off all rankings what-so-ever, (except brand) but weirdly if i pan between browsers we dont use (for saved searches/cookies etc) sometimes the rankings show up where they used to be. Whats strange is we get crawled daily but it took seven weeks for our rankings to drop, ive done all testing i can - no manual actions, no updates when we dropped (15th Aug) no real differences in webmaster tools, no crawl errors, no massive rise in 404s, 500s etc etc, im really a bit stumped! Any help would be mucho appreciated in diagnosing this stumper!

Database Crash affecting our rankings
Here is one for you. We had a database crash, and was down for an hour and 15 minutes, on Dec 18th. During this time our system automatically sent out a 301 redirect to our product home page. (iboats.com/boat-parts-accessories/dm/) On Dec 24th I noticed a huge ranking drop on a lot of our keywords, and some keywords that were serving up the redirect page from our database crash, in place of its normally ranked page. So my assumption is that Google was crawling our site during the database crash and caching the redirect pages in place of our regularly ranked pages. So when a search query is made that would normally display our ranked page, it is now displaying the redirect page from the crawled cache. And on other keywords where we normally would rank for, Google no longer has that page cached, so it drops it from ranking. My question: Does this assumption sound accurate? If so, I'm assuming over time that our past ranked pages will show up once again after Google recrawls those pages and saves them in their cache. I have several sites that were affected with this: boatcovers.iboats.com boatpropellers.iboats.com iboats.com Thanks in advance for your input

Rankings Up and Down Every Single Week
This is so insanely frustrating. One week my client's rankings will be great, working up the second page and on our way to the first. The next week those rankings will drop (according to SEOMoz Rankings) to well below 50. The very next week those rankings will be back up on the second page. It's like a pinball machine with a different rank every week. I'm doing absolutely nothing from week to week, and am not understanding why it's bouncing back and forth so much. I've never seen anything like it, actually. I've never had a client bounce up and down so frequently and in such huge numbers. Any ideas? (http://erasedisease.com) Thanks

If I type site:youtube.com into Google, are the results listed by what Google considers to be the most important pages of the site? If I change my sitemap should this order change? Thanks!

Website Ranking Issue
Hi, We have been performing our own onsite of offsite SEO along with external assistance and have ranked well over the years with minimal impact from Google updates. Howevr the last so called Panda update has affected us heavily pushing our main phrase 'web design melbourne' from 2nd to 7th where we have been for almost 2 months now on Google.com.au irrespective of onsite or offsite work. We have been trying to find signs of any onsite, IP, duplicate content, titles or other issues that may be holding us back to no avail. The only flag that Google webmaster tools is showing is a number of bad internal site links, which I think is a glitch with the CMS we are using. Even the SEO MOZ tool gives us a higher ranking compared to most competitors on page 1 of Google.com.au for our main phrase. The biggest difference between us and competitors is we chose to target an internal page specific to the topic rather than our homepage. With this sadi we have also reduced our keyword density and content quantity inline with the other sites homepages. Can anyone help shed some light on this? and perhaps something obvious that we have missed, or where we should be looking? Thanks.
