Should I really worry about warnings¿?
-
I have about 300 errors about duplication of content.
But I also have like 3000 warnings for:
2500, too many links on page
2000, meta title longer than 66 characters
200, too long url.
I have analyzed my competition, and 90% of them have also too many links on pages and long meta titles.
Are these 2 really factors to improve my google ranking?
My site is: theprinterdepo.com
and my main keywords are printers, refurbished printers, laser printers

Yes the warning do matter they are trying to inform you of items you should pay attention that can impact your rankings on search engines.
1.) The number of links per page: having to many links per page can appear like spam during a search engine crawl therefore effecting your ability to rank well. Do you really require that many links per page? Are most of these links actually ever being used? I suggest you use site overlay in Google analytic and pin point which of those link are most valuable to your website and think about reducing the ones which are rarely clicked on.
2.) Having such long title tags is a waste of time as search engines will certainly not parse titles longer than 70 characters any longer than this are cut off and not displayed . Again these are factors that will appear like spam injection in your title.
3.) Long URL are also unavoidable for spam and keyword injection reasons i would suggest shorter URLs.
Overall if your site is producing the errors you mentioned above I would seek to resolving them as they are not good in terms of search engine rankings or pleasant for visitors to your website.

Links in Webmaster Tools that aren't really linking to us
I've noticed that there is a domain in WMT that Google says is linking to our domain from 173 different pages, but it actually isn't linking to us at all on ANY of those pages. The site is a business directory that seems to be automatically scraping business listings and adding them to hundreds of different categories. Low quality crap that I've disavowed just in case. I have hand checked a bunch of the pages that WMT is reporting with links to us by viewing source, but there's no links to us. I've also used crawlers to check for links, but they turn up nothing. The pages do, however, mention our brand name. I find this very odd that Google would report links to our site when there isn't actually links to our site. Has anyone else ever noticed something like this?

Will really old links have any benefit being 301'd
I have a client who when they built their site never had any of their old links 301'd - I've now managed to locate a few of these links and am going to redirect them. The site was rebuilt 2006/07 - and it ranked page one and #1 for lots of relevant keywords, if I redirect these to the current pages will the rankings still carry??

Hi, So, we know we don't have the best content - so we are hiring writers to create unique content for each product. What happens if this is now copied by another website? What does Google see? Do they recognize us as the original content? Has anyone used DMCA.com ? is it worth it? thanks, Ben

Spurious malware warning in Bing Webmaster Tools (BWT)?
Hi, A client had a message in BWT: 'Bing Webmaster Tools detected 1 pages infected with malware on ...' The message was last updated 30/July but having checked the page and included javascript there's nothing that we can see which could be construed as malware. GWT seems happy enough with it and I've tried a couple of online site scanners (e.g. sucuri) and they seem happy enough. I'm minded to ignore it, but has anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks

Duplicate Page Warnings, hkey and repetitive URLs
Hi, we just put our association's site in SEO Moz so we can tackle SEO and we received thousands of duplicate page content and duplicate title warnings. I searched the forum before asking 🙂 Appreciate some guidance on how many things are wrong with the URL's below that are getting flagged as duplicate page content. 1. Does the repetition of the page title and section hurt SEO? 2. Does the iMIS15 in the URL (the server) detract from relevant ranking? 3. From the forum, it looks like canonical tags should be added to the version of the page that starts with .....?hkey (is there a way to predict and "canonize" these? Or recommendations?) http://www.iiba.org/imis15/IIBA/About_IIBA/IIBA_Website/About_IIBA/About_IIBA.aspx?hkey=6d821afa-e3aa-4bef-bafa-2453238d12c6 http://www.iiba.org/imis15/IIBA/About_IIBA/IIBA_Website/About_IIBA/About_IIBA.aspx Thank you.

Do sites really need a 404 page?
We have people posting broken links to our site is this looking us link juice as they link to 404 pages. We could redirect to the homepage or just render the home page content, in both cases we can still display a clear page not found message. Is this legal (white hat).

CGI Parameters: should we worry about duplicate content?
Hi, My question is directed to CGI Parameters. I was able to dig up a bit of content on this but I want to make sure I understand the concept of CGI parameters and how they can affect indexing pages. Here are two pages: No CGI parameter appended to end of the URL: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/13/world/asia/13japan.html CGI parameter appended to the end of the URL: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/13/world/asia/13japan.html?pagewanted=2&ref=homepage&src=mv Questions: Can we safely say that CGI parameters = URL parameters that append to the end of a URL? Or are they different? And given that you have rel canonical implemented correctly on your pages, search engines will move ahead and index only the URL that is specified in that tag? Thanks in advance for giving your insights. Look forward to your response. Best regards, Jackson
