Removing an Old Address Company Moved
-
Hi there we have a new client who moved their offices.
They have created many new listings but they still have some old listings out there that need to be deleted with the old address. And also update some old listings with the new address.
Question, what would be the approach for this?
Use a third party like Yext? Is there something cheaper than $400 per client?
Or do it myself?
I already started running into issues, the Yahoo wouldn't let me claim it, I can foresee some issues. For example I am sure Citygrid will do what they have done to other client.Trying to upsale my client instead of just changing their address when they call to verify.
PS How many hours would you allot for a project like this?
Thanks for the input.

I thought I had replied to this but it doesn't show up. Google can be handled by post card and we send the client a shot of the post card and how it will look with instructions to disseminate the info so no one throws it out with junk mail.
If you are handling a lot of Google + clients, you can set it up where you manage all the accounts from one dashboard and all you are waiting on are their codes. If you need a bit of help, PM me and I will have our coordinator walk you through the process once.

Robert, how does she handle when they want to call to the business to verify?
Is there a work around? I find that to be the most difficult part. Getting the owner to answer and then write down the code, etc.
Thanks for your input.

GreenHornet77,
First the easy answer: Use a third party like Yest? No, don't in my humble opinion.
As to correcting the address, are you dealing with Google +/places? Are the others important for the business?
For Google + for business (Places), you should be able to edit the address. You can watch after the change and if need be make an edit in Google Map Maker that may well help.
For citation sites like Yelp, Citysearch, etc. those can be changed as well. If this is not something you have done before, I would suggest that you do it as a way to learn the ins and outs of it if you are planning to assist a lot of clients with their local. Our Local Coordinator started with us a year ago and because she has done this over and over it takes a lot less time. So, your first few may take a little longer, but after you know the ropes it should lessen your workload.
For us, I would say if you were changing 10 citation sites, etc. you should allocate an hour per site.
Best,
Robert

Using 410 To Remove URLs Starting With Same Word
We had a spam injection a few months ago. We successfully cleaned up the site and resubmitted to google. I recently received a notification showing a spike in 404 errors. All of the URLS have a common word at the beginning injected via the spam: sitename.com/mono

sitename.com/mono.php?buy-good-essays
sitename.com/mono.php?professional-paper-writer There's about 100 total URLS with the same syntax with the word "mono" in them. Based on my research, it seems that it would be best to serve a 410. I wanted to know what the line of HTACCESS code would be to do that in bulk for any URL that has the word "mono" after the sitename.com/0 -
How to set up redirects with a company takeover
Hi there, We are about to take over a player in the market with some good DA en PA's. We choose to redirect all the pages from the domain we take over to our main domain for now, later we want to redirect all categories to relevant and similar categories on our own domain. The company we take over is using a server which will be cancelled in a while. For now we set up the 301 redirect(s) on their server we take over. Because of the extra costs we will cancel the server in a few weeks/months. What is a common way to keep 301 redirects alive after cancelling the server of company we take over? I hope someone can give me the help I need in this one. Thanks in advance! Cheers,

Removing CSS & JS Files from Index
Hi, Google has indexed a few .CSS and .JS files that belong to our WordPress plugins and themes. I had them blocked via robots, but realized this doesn't prevent indexation (and can likely hurt us since Google wants to access these files). I've since removed the robots instructions, submitted a removal request via Search Console, but want to make sure they don't come back. Is there a way to put a noindex tag within .CSS and .JS files? Or should I do something with .htaccess instead?

Large Companies Taking Over Rankings
Recently many large companies. (lowes, bed bath and beyond, walmart, target, ace hardware, etc.), have taken over the rankings of keywords we used to rank high in. Is there any way to improve our rankings and compete with these large companies? Is this due to recent Google changes? Sample keywords are: electrolux vacuum bags, oreck vacuum bags, vacuum cleaner bag, vacuum cleaner filter
