Switching to HTTPS
-
I'm trying to get my server PCI Compliant and they want me to switch the forums at http://www.usacarry.com/forums/ over to https because of the logins.
Could this possibly affect my existing rankings?
-
Cheers Oleg, I have just seen the duplicate content issue overlooked so often, so I thought it was important to put this point across and give a useful link to a more in depth look at the solution.
-
Woops, good call. I just assumed he would be forcing https - which is hands down the easiest method and takes care of the duplicate issue.
-
Yes it could affect your current rankings if you don't make sure that you have redirected your http:// versions to your new https:// versions of the page using a 301 redirect as it can create a duplicate content issue. Here is a more in depth look at this in a recent and very well answered Q&A - http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-content-and-http-and-https
Hope this helps!
-
It should not affect your rankings. Just make sure you take out any references to insecure (http) files so that the pages are fully encrypted.

Https to http
Two versions of the same page are being served at the moment. Certain pages on the site redirect to the https version whilst others don't. I am being flagged for duplicate content because of this. Is this a simple fix? As in just redirect all to the https version and set the preferred version in WMT?

Changing Domains - 301 old https to new https
Brief History: Our company made change to a new domain. Both domains had an SSL configured on it in which the old domain SSL was controlled and created by Shopify which gave us limited control. Because we couldn't redirect the old https:// to the new https:// So basically we duplicated our new HTML website and put canonical ref on all duplicate pages to the final domain to help get search to navigate to the newer domain. Question: In the near future I would like to take down the old domain and do a 301 domain forwarding. What is the correct course of action to complete this? Our old domain was indexed and SERP results were tied to it's https:// url's.

HTTPS for form pages?
I am creating a small business website for a friend in Recruitment. It’s very small and mainly just a shop window for the business. There’s no login area for the website, but there are two areas were users can enter information: General contact us form (giving email and phone number) Applying for a job (attaching a resume) The forms are using Ninja Forms – which I believe are secure in passing information. But am I missing anything? Do I need to make these pages https at all? I’m quite new to building sites from scratch. Thanks for your help

Https indexed...how?
Hello Moz, Since a while i am struggling with a SEO case: At the moment a https version of a homepage of a client of us is indexed in Google. Thats really strange because the url is redirected to an other website url for three weeks now. And we did everything to make clear to google that he has to index the other url.
Technical SEO | | Searchresult
So we have a few homepage urls A https://www.website.nl
B https://www.websites.nl/category
C http://www.websites.nl/category What we did: Redirected A with a 301 to B, a redirect from A or B to C is difficult because of the security issue with the ssl certificate. We put the right canonical url (VERSION C) on every version of the homepage(A,B) We only put the canonical urls in the sitemap.xml, only version C and uploaded it to Google Webmastertools We changed all important internal links to Version C We also get some valuable external backlinks to Version C Is there something i missed or i forget to say to Google hey look you've got the wrong url indexed, you have to index version C? How is it possible Google still prefers Version A after doing al those changes three weeks a go? I'am really looking forward to your answer. Thanks a lot in advanced! Greetz Djacko0 -
