Google Not liking Magento Sites?
-
Hello, I'm new to the community and I wonder if anyone can help us shed a light on this SEO issue we are having. We have 3 magento websites that is being affected. Whats happening is that those site were ranked for a specific keyword for few months, but all of a sudden, it just drop like crazy. It went from top 10 to about 150 in a bout a weeks period. Some site, it's not even ranked or stopped ranking and visible on the search engine. Is google not liking MAgento for some reason??
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated!
thanks

Hi James,
Magento is genrally pretty good for SEO as long as you can get rid of a few basic issues. Magento can create a lot of duplcate content but there are a couple of extensions and some good guides that can help.
The first is from Yoast - http://yoast.com/articles/magento-seo/ - There is a link from within the article for the extension.
The second is from Paul Rogers at GPDM.
Their extension is here - http://www.gpmd.co.uk/magento-development/magento-modules/seopack-magento-module/
Their guide is here - http://www.gpmd.co.uk/blog/a-guide-to-doing-seo-on-magento-websites/ -
Thanks Matt, we have to do an in-depth investigation of our sites again.
thanks

Goolge won't have anything against Magneto as it is a very widely used platform and there would have been a lot more people asking this sort of question if Google suddenly decided it didn't like it. I would have a look at all your sites link profiles and see if there are any clues there? I would also look at your sites architecture/structure and see if you have a duplicate content issue which can be common on e-commerce sites. For a more in depth insight you will need to share your sites with the community.
If you haven't already I would run your sites through http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ for clues

Google indexing .com and .co.uk site
Hi, I am working on a site that is experiencing indexation problems: To give you an idea, the website should be www.example.com however, Google seems to index www.example.co.uk as well. It doesn’t seem to honour the 301 redirect that is on the co.uk site. This is causing quite a few reporting and tracking issues. This happened the first time in November 2016 and there was an issue identified in the DDOS protection which meant we would have to point www.example.co.uk to the same DNS as www.example.com. This was implemented and made no difference. I cleaned up the htaccess file and this made no difference either. In June 2017, Google finally indexed the correct URL, but I can’t be sure what changed it. I have now migrated the site onto https and www.example.co.uk has been reindexed in Google alongside www.example.com I have been advised that the http needs to be removed from DDOS which is in motion I have also redirected http://www.example.co.uk straight to https://www.example.com to prevent chain redirects I can’t block the site via robot.txt unless I take the redirects off which could mean that I lose my rankings. I should also mention that I haven't actually lost any rankings, it's just replaced some URLs with co.uk and others have remained the same. Could you please advise what further steps I should take to ensure the correct URL’s are indexed in Google?

So I know you can use dashes and | in meta tags, but can anyone tell me what other punctuation you can use? Also, it'd be great to know what punctuation you can't use. Thanks!

Anything new if determining how many of a sites pages are in Google's supplemental index vs the main index?
Since site:mysite.com *** -sljktf stopped working to find pages in the supplemental index several years ago has anyone found another way to identify content that has been regulated to the supplemental index?

Magento Redirect Loop
On my clients site I changed the URL structure for products. First they had a trailing slash: http://www.wellamy.com/market/food/oklahoma-relief-effort/healthy-snacks/caramel-apple-chewy-snack-bars/ I changed it to end in .html http://www.wellamy.com/market/food/oklahoma-relief-effort/healthy-snacks/caramel-apple-chewy-snack-bars.html Now rather than redirecting properly, it causes a redirect loop. Any idea how I can fix this?

Google Links
I am assuming that the list presented by Google Webmaster tools (TRAFFIC | Links To Your Site) is the one that will actually be used by Google for indexing ? There seem to be quite a few links that there that should not be there. ie Assumed NOFOLLOW links. Am I working under an incorrect assumption that all links in webmaster tools are actually followed ?

What can we do to improve our site
Hi. I am hoping that some of you can help me with the in2town site www.in2town.co.uk The site is a news/lifestyle magazine site. The site is a cross between, huffington post, digital spy, female first and the sun newspaper. Basically the site is a news site as well as covering showbiz news, travel news, health news and advice etc What i would like is for people to look at the site and let me know what they feel i should do to improve the site to make it better for our readers and to gain more readership. I would also like to hear from people on how they find moving around the site as well as the speed of the site. At the moment the site is with an american hosting company and i am in the process of talking to UK hosting companies to move the site. The site is currently on a dedicated server. It would mean a lot if people could give me their advice on how to improve the site and make it a beter experience for our readers while at the same time being able to generate income with the site. Just a quick note, all content is original and we have a number of people who write for the site. many thanks
