Is the on-page link count a distinct count or a gross count?
-
My Crawl Diagnostic report is showing too many on-page links (~120-141). Is this a count of distinct links (i.e. example.com and example.com/?q count as 2)?
-
I certainly can't speak for Roger Mozbot (the crawler) but I've always assumed the Crawl Diagnostic just indicates gross link count - i.e. totaling up the number of hrefs on a page.
Otherwise the crawler would have to be following every link, which I don't think is likely.
More to the point, I just use that number for trending and as a threshold. If my report shows 140 on-page links, it could be as low as 90 or 100 when dupes are taken into account and it wouldn't matter - I'd still know I have too many.

It is just a pure count of all the links regardless of where they point to.

How many pages should we optimise?
I have more than 250 pages on my site including my products. Is it a good idea to optimise each page with a unique keyword or is there a limit to the number of pages we should aim for?

Internal and Link Juice Analysis - Too Many Links Error
Howdy! I have an analysis question related to internal links/link juice. Here is the general link set up of our site: 1. All Site Pages (Including Home Page): We have drop down "mega" menus in the header of everypage linking to various sub-categories on the site. So, because of this, in our header, we have a few hundred links to various pages on our site and these show up on every page of the site. 2. Product Pages: Header pages as mentioned above, but on top of that, we list out the keywords for that particular product and each keyword is linked back to our search results pages for that particular keyword. In General Moz is telling us we are having between 200-300 links on each product page. Currently, our Search Results pages are ranking higher and showing up in search more than our actual product pages. So, based on the above info, here are some thoughts: 1. Should we ajax in the Header links so that they aren't showing up for the search engines? Or, should we ajax them in only on all pages that are not the Home Page? 2. Should we get rid of the keyword links back to the Search Results pages that are on the product pages? What effect would these changes "actually" have? Does this just improve crawling? Or are there other positive results that would come of changes like these? We have hundreds of thousands of products, so if we were to make changes like these, could we experience negative results? Thanks for your help! Craig

PANDA Attack: Too many on page links
Hey guys! I have a bit of a dilemma...one of my sites got hit by Panda 😞 The content itself contains about 10 links, however since the site is a process directory, at the bottom of the page you will find that the visitor can also browse process directory by name or page and then beneath this there are 80 links :s My concern is that if i remove this I will lose internal link juice! HELP! What approach should I take? I was thinking of either reducing the number of links OR hiding it by using Java ORRRR removing the links entirely. Advice anyone? This is a page as an example: http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/csrsc/25349/ All pages are like this!

Can you 301 redirect to a page that has other pages 301 to it?
Two years ago updated url page to include better keywords and used a 301 redirect from the old page to the new. so www.example.com/keyword-1st-generation.html now points to ... www.example.com/keyword-2nd-generation.html That moved the pages up in ranking, but now have better kw for the url, so is it okay to redirect the /keyword-2nd-geration-html to www.example.com/keyword-3rd-generation.html And what is a good length of time before removing the 1st-generation url? It's been 3 years and there is no chance of using it again. Plus, no sign of it in analytics.

Page Title
My website was hacked last November and then again last week. Prior to the hacking we were at number one in Google.co.uk for our main search term "nile cruises' for years. After last November's hacking we dropped to about position 4 and after last week we are at position 7. Ima rebuilding the lost data and I am having to create new Title and Description meta data for each of the indexed pages. I am taking the opportunity to try and ensure my titles and descriptions are good and the correct length, etc but wondered about the best title format. I set our home page title over the weekend as: Nile Cruise | Leading ABTA & ATOL Bonded UK Nile Cruise Specialist I was going to try and cover 3 keyphrases in the title like this: Nile Cruise | Nile Cruises | Nile Cruise Bargains But I thought that might look a bit spammy because the 3 phrases are very similar. I wondered what anyone else might suggest? Thanks, Colin

Are pages with lots of pictures with outbound links bad for seo?
"Inspiration" blog posts are a good example. The one below has 80 pictures as part of a logo inspiration page. But each picture has an outbound url. Bad or doesn't matter? http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/80-creative-and-well-designed-logos/

How could I avoid the "Duplicate Page Content" issue on the search result pages of a webshop site?
My webshop site was just crawled by Roger, and it found 683 "Duplicate Page Content" issues. Most of them are result pages of different product searches, that are not really identical, but very similar to each other. Do I have to worry about this? If yes, how could I make the search result pages different? IS there any solution for this? Thanks: Zoltan

Where does link juice flow on a cloaked link?
Hello, I use a wordpress plug in that allows me to display tot he user any link I want from my domain, so it might be like: www.domain.com/gift-card, but the actual link is www.someaffiliatelink/w09fjai;owfoienw <--- and then a bunch of crap after the domain for the affiliate link. It uses the common technique of an iframe to hide the actual url from the user and show the one that I want them to see. What I am wondering is, does link juice in this case flow to my site, or to their site? And also, do you have any comments regarding this type of link cloaking? Thanks. Thanks
