I do not think the number of products has any effect. Unless you just had a few products and customers get on the site, don't think you have enough selection and leave right away. Google will take a high bounce rate into consideration.

we used to be not so long ago number one on google for iphone cases iphone 4 cases etc but recently we have dropped. We have less products now than we used to so wondered if this has had an effect
i also noticed a lot of my competitors dont use the iphone keywords in there titles the use blue case etc maybe not to have duplicate content?
-
I would try to explain the design in the product description a little, at least emphasize the color and/or texture, same with the meta title and meta description of each product. But Maybe someone else can weigh in on how important they think this will be before you get to work on that many products.
What keywords are you going after? Do you realize how competitive a keyword like i-phone cases will be?
-
yes this is the bit i dont understand we have the same descriptions but all the products are different designs and different titles but the are all cases just different design cases. is this duplicate content
I just looked at how zazzle and other rank really well and they have thousands of products

I do not think that having more products in a category than your competitors will help with SEO at all.
In fact, you will have to be even more careful making sure each of these products do not have duplicate content, titles, and descriptions, the more similar products you have, the harder that can be.
I would also be careful if you have optimized the category and your product list is multiple pages long. Some e-commerce platforms will repeat the optimized category content on each page. I know SEO Moz will consider that duplicate content and give you errors, however I'm not sure how seriously Google really take it. To avoid that problem I usually allow more products to display on each page.

Should I optimize my home-page or a sub-page for my most important keyword
Quick question: When choosing the most important keyword set that I would like to rank for, would I be better off optimizing my homepage, or a sub page for this keyword. My thinking goes as follows: The homepage (IE www.mysite.com) naturally has more backlinks and thus a better Google Page Rank. However, there are certain things I could do to a subpage (IE www.mysite.com/green-widgets-los-angeles ) that I wouldn't want to do to the homepage, which might be more "optimal" overall. Option C, I suppose, would be to optimize both the homepage, and a single sub-page, which is seeming like a pretty good solution, but I have been told that having multiple pages optimized for the same keywords might "confuse" search engines. Would love any insight on this!

Duplicated Products on Homepage and category pages
I have some of my best sellers located on the homepage of my websites. These same products may also appear on the category page as well. On the home page and the category page, the product title, short description, thumbnail, etc. are exact duplicates and I am afraid this is hurting me. I would appreciate any advice you may have on how to deal with this issue. These are some of my best sellers and most often, the homepage will outrank the category page for the product. Thanks in advance, lordhenry

Hi all We are building, managing and marketing a Danish tourism site for VisitSweden. The site targets a Danish market-group with information and travel tips on going to Sweden. We have one page in particular that has always failed to rank well for some reason. http://www.meresverige.dk/rejser/malmo This page targets the keyword "Malmø". Another page, with similar layout and content seems to rank alot better. http://www.meresverige.dk/rejser/goeteborg Keyword "Gøteborg" Any ideas? Smart tips? Have the best of days Fredrik

Home page ranking dropped below internal pages
The index page for a site I manage has dropped significantly - internal pages rank above it. It's a new site, 2 months old but was ranking at 1st. Any suggestions as to how I can debug this?

On page Analysis... how does seomoz choose to match a keyword to a url?
On my "On Page" analysis report it show me a couple pages that have D ratings... one key phrase is "my destination lodging" and it is matching it up with a url like mydomain.com/my-destination-hotels.html. It says I'm ranking 37th for this term.... Is it just suggesting that I optimize this url because it is already ranking for that term? So should I create a different page with a different url to better match this phrase? Thanks for any ideas.

What is the best solution for printable product pages (duplicate content)?
What do you think is the best solution for preventing duplicate content issues on printable versions of product pages? The printable versions are identical in content. Disallow in Robots.txt? Meta Robots No Index, Follow? Meta Robots No Index No Follow? Rel Canonical?
