On-site links
-
Hi everybody,
There's a lot of information about getting sitewide backlinks, but so few about on-site optimization.
Is there a maximum of links to put on a page ?
Is there a maximum of link that a page should receive ?
etc ... ?
So, what is the optimal strategy ? And I'm only concerned about on-page and on-site link, not backlinks commming from other sites.
Thanks

I wrote about this a while back - I think it 98% still applies today:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-many-links-is-too-many
It's really a question of dilution - the more thinly you spread your internal link "juice" (PR, basically), the less each page gets. So, it's often a balancing act. There's rarely one right answer, but I find that less is often more.
I think Istvan's point about users is important, too. It's easy for people to get overloaded with options. I've seen sites with 500+ links that presented them very well, but that's rare. At the same time, those were big brand sites with a lot of inbound links and authority, so they can play by different rules.

Good, it confirms what I thought.
I was asking to make shure and have the feedback of other SEO as a lot of things changed the last 12 months. But for now, my site has rouglhy 45 pages and I have a total of 110 links in my text (I exclude the call-to-action butons on side of the pages, there's 3-4 of them by page) and the most links I have in a page is 15 (anchor type on text keyword).

Hi David,
I would avoid having more then 50 links on a page in total because of two factors:
1.) It confuses the the client (just think as you would walk in a park and you get to an intersection where you have 100 ways to go, which path would you choose?)
2.) if we look at the pagerank formula (as we know it since the beginnings) think about how much would you divide the "link juice" (ex. you have a chocolate and you want to split it to a lot of people).
I hope this helped you make a decision.
Gr.,
Istvan

How much SEO damage would it do having a subdomain site rather directory site?
Hi all! With a coleague we were arguing about what is better: Having a subdomain or a directory.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Gaston Riera
Let me explain some more, this is about the cases: Having a multi-language site: Where en.domain.com or es.domain.com rather than domain.com/en/ or domain.com/es/ Having a Mobile and desktop version: m.domain.com or domain.com rather than domain.com/m or just domain.com. Having multiple location websites, you might figure. The dicussion started with me saying: Its better to have a directory site.
And my coleague said: Its better to have a subdomain site. Some of the reasons that he said is that big companies (such as wordpress) are doing that. And that's better for the business.
My reasons are fully based on this post from Rand Fishkin: Subdomains vs. Subfolders, Rel Canonical vs. 301, and How to Structure Links for SEO - Whiteboard Friday So, what does the community have to say about this?

Link building… how to get high rewarding links?
Hi Guys, I have a few people whom I have built relationships up in my industry with that would like to link to my site. Is there any particular things I need to be mindful of before having them link to me? I'm just mindful of the unknown. Also, which links to use etc? Thanks in advance

Site not progressing at all....
We relaunched our site almost a year ago after our old site dropped out of ranking due to what we think was overused anchor text.... We transferred over the content to the new site, but started fresh in terms of links etc. And did not redirect the old site. Since the launch we have focused on producing good content and social, but the site has made no progress at all. The only factor I can think off is that one site linked to us from all of their pages, which we asked them to remove which they did over 3 months ago, but still showing in Webmaster tools.... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Internal Site Structure Question (URL Formation and Internal Link Design)
Hi, I have an e-commerce website that has an articles section: There is an articles.aspx file that can be reached from the top menu and it holds links to all of the articles as follows: xxx.com/articles/article1.aspx
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | BeytzNet
xxx.com/articles/article2.aspx I want to add several new articles under a new sections, for example a complete set of articles under the title of "buying guide" and the question is what would be the best way? I was thinking of adding a "computers-buying-guides.aspx" accessible from the top menu / footer and from it linking to: xxx.com/computer-buying-ghudes/what-to-check-prior-to-buying-a-laptop.aspx
xxx.com/computer-buying-ghudes/weight-vs-performance.aspx
etc. Any thoughts / recommendations? Thanks0 -
I currently have a client that has multiple domains for multiple brands that share the same IP Address. Will link juice be passed along to the different sites when they link to one another or will it simply be considered internal linking?
I have 7 brands that are owned by the same company, each with their own domain. The brands work together to form products that are then sold to the consumer although there is not a e-commerce aspect to any of the sites. I am looking to create a modified link wheel between the sites, but didn't know if my efforts would pay off due to the same IP Address for all the sites. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Link Request Email on Site`s Link Pages
Hello I have assembled a list of web-sites that have "Links" section that has a list of persons` favorite tools. Those pages have a link to my competitor. I know my tool is just as good if not better and want to request a link. I`m thinking of sending an email asking for a link and offering a small amount of money for it. Questions: A) How much should I offer? Should I offer anything at all B) Is there an email style that someone can suggest that has been tested and proven to work for this type of situtation?
