thanks for this. been having for a long time trouble with a site map. the reason is, i use joomla 1.5 and i am not sure the best way to have it set or which is the best tool to use.
my articles change all the time and not sure how many of the articles i should have in the site map or to have just the sections.
on an old site i had all the articles, well up to 2,000 and that gain me a lot of traffic but with the new site i took that down

Yes, this does look good. However, usually the robots.txt will define a location of a sitemap. Not absolutely needed, but good to know.
Here is an example of one of our client's wordpress sites.
User-agent: * Disallow: /wp-admin Disallow: /another-post Disallow: /dolor-and-the-sit-amet/ Disallow: /hello-world-2-2/ Disallow: /second-page-post/ Disallow: /hello-world-2-3/ Disallow: /tag/ Disallow: /events/ Disallow: /wp-content/ Sitemap: http://backcountrysnow.com/sitemap.xml.gz

X-robots tag causing no index issues
I have an interesting problem with a site which has an x-robot tag blocking the site from being indexed, the site is in Wordpress, there are no issues with the robots.txt or at the page level, I cant find the noindex anywhere. I removed the SEO plug-in which was there and installed Yoast but it made no difference. this is the url: https://www.cotswoldflatroofing.com/ Its coming up with a HTTP error: x-robots tag noindex, nofollow, noarchive

Why did I drop ranking after setting up perm redirect, sitemap, and Google places??
I have a site that was ranking in the top two for my search terms. We had a funky url (it contained hyphens) and was advised to change it for SEO, so I setup a perm redirect through my web host (before it was a temporary one I think) At the same time I installed a sitemap plugin for Wordpress and also registered for a Google Places account. I can't remember the exact order I did this -- does it matter? Anyway, within a couple days of doing the above, my ranking dropped to the bottom of the second page. I would like to fix this, but I'm not sure. I need help please!

Question about construction of our sitemap URL in robots.txt file
Hi all, This is a Webmaster/SEO question. This is the sitemap URL currently in our robots.txt file: http://www.ccisolutions.com/sitemap.xml As you can see it leads to a page with two URLs on it. Is this a problem? Wouldn't it be better to list both of those XML files as separate line items in the robots.txt file? Thanks! Dana

Broken links shall i put them in my htaccess file to generate juice
Hi, when i had to rebuild my website after my hosting company made an error, i lost over 10,000 pages and lost many thousands of links coming to my site. What i want to know is, instead of trying to recreate those pages again which would take me a long time, should i put them into my htacess file and have them point back into my site. so for example, if i have a link coming to my site to an article which could be, holidays in benidorm are not selling well, would it be a good idea to have that link pointed at the main benidorm section which is benidorm news. And if i had an article which was people are finding it hard to lose weight, instead of writing a new article could i have the link pointing to my health section? If this is the correct way of doing it to grab back some link juice, would it slow my site down and how many links could i put in my htacess file. So what i am trying to say is, if i put in say 1000 redirects into my htaccess file, would it slow my site down and is this a wise thing to do or should i just let the links go.

How can i get google adsense to work properly to earn income
Hi i am trying to get google adsense to work properly but i am not winning. What i am trying to do is, to get the adverts to reflect on the content. So for example this page here http://www.in2town.co.uk/news/mark-feehily/westlife-mark-feehily-announces-split-from-long-term-boyfriend I would like google adsense to have celebrity adverts such as celebrity news sites, celebrity fashion, concert tickets etc. I want the adverts to be related to celebrity but it is not happening. Can anyone please let me know how to do this and also if i have the google adsense in the right place as since rebuilding the site we have not earned anything with google adsense many thanks

What should I set my domain setting to?
In Google Wemnaster tools, I have the option to set it to either have as default the "www" or without it. What are the pros and cons of one way or the other . . . or is this a way more complicated question/can of worms I have opened?
